@ErockNJ I think we just didn't hear the raise. If you notice Gabe calls out the $800,000 before all the chips are in the center. Meaning Gabe knew it was an 800K raise before Stu put the chips into the pot.
Stu still had chips and the amount he raised put the other guy 'all in'. For the other guy to call, it is understood that it was an all in bet. In live poker games the dealer just tosses a chip in front of the 'all in' player that says 'all in' on it, so everyone knows. You don't have to actually push all of your chips into the middle. Does that make it clear for you?

nope. When you raise, you should either state by how much, or push your chips over the line in one movement. You can't push a few in, then a few more, then a few more. He was a good player when most other opponents were donkeys who had no idea about the game. Back then it was a game purely for rich people. His opponent here is a casino bigshot.

Most people entering a 10k in the 80ths and 90th was top class poker pro's. Of course there was a few rich people entering but comparing a tournament. It is true the game has envolved but saying that the Main event that Stu won only had a bunch of donkeys in it is just nonsense. There where no 1 dollar sattelites back then like there is now. During the WSOP there where 500 and 1000 dollar sattelites running but back then that was a lot of money even for a pro making a living in Las Vegas.

@Araknophobik that's an insult to Kobe Bryant. Kobe is an MVP today. Hellmuth is overrated and the poker talent today has passed him by quickly. In your comparison, Kobe would not win anything anymore, he would leave the court most nights in a temper tantrum, while still telling everyone that he is the greatest ever, and his main income would be from a few endorsements.

@chriskila youtube views mean nothing, Stu was from a different poker era before the money-maker effect and the online poker boom, Stu was the greatest natually gifted player of all time, earned $30 million dollars , won the WSOP 3 Unpresidented times(*johnny moss won three but his first win was voted by his peers, not freeze out structure*), Stu also won the Amarillo slim Superbowl of poker 3 times also and many other tourneys, try to learn about the greats before saying such ignorant comments.

@314nayar no worries, there are always newbies who know nothing of poker history who always display their complete ignorance of the true Greats of poker, " chriskila" is one of them, theres footage of Stuey winning two wsops, the 1980 footage of his wsop win is scarce but exists in the ESPN vaults, she really is making a fool of herself, LOL, you have to feel sorry for these types of people, LOL :)

Stu does a string raise! His opponent bets $120,000 and Stu says "raise" but does not state an amount. He goes to his chip stack 3 or 4 times, so that is a STRING BET!!!! HA!

Once he says raise he can go to his stack as many times as he wants till he completes his raise. Its not a string bet in this tournament play setting.

That is not a string bet Sir. Once you say raise you are allowed to stack your chips anyway you want and then declare the amount.

@ErockNJ I think we just didn't hear the raise. If you notice Gabe calls out the $800,000 before all the chips are in the center. Meaning Gabe knew it was an 800K raise before Stu put the chips into the pot.

Stu still had chips and the amount he raised put the other guy 'all in'. For the other guy to call, it is understood that it was an all in bet. In live poker games the dealer just tosses a chip in front of the 'all in' player that says 'all in' on it, so everyone knows. You don't have to actually push all of your chips into the middle. Does that make it clear for you?

nope. When you raise, you should either state by how much, or push your chips over the line in one movement. You can't push a few in, then a few more, then a few more. Try doing that in a casino and see what happens. His opponent could have called him on it if he had wanted to. Google string bet you foul mouthed youtube comment thug.

He was a good player when most other opponents were donkeys who had no idea about the game. Back then it was a game purely for rich people. His opponent here is a casino bigshot.
If Stu were to play now, he'd maybe get a 500th place in the WSOP.

Most people entering a 10k in the 80ths and 90th was top class poker pro's. Of course there was a few rich people entering but comparing a tournament. It is true the game has envolved but saying that the Main event that Stu won only had a bunch of donkeys in it is just nonsense. There where no 1 dollar sattelites back then like there is now. During the WSOP there where 500 and 1000 dollar sattelites running but back then that was a lot of money even for a pro making a living in Las Vegas.
