"Cult" what a load of shit... I am not a member of AA nor an addict, but I have family members that are, and because of AA they have been clean and sober for many, many years.. If this is a "cult" then I have nothing but respect and love for it...
People need to learn the traditions. GSO has drafted new guidelines for anonymity on the internet. Nothing against SRV, but violation of anonymity online is just the same as in press, radio, and film.
And before you rant about the critique LOOK UP THE INFORMATION it it available at the AA GSO website - "contempt prior to investigation".
@etbradley i agree. Ive seen many taped and the speaker was aware and agreed prior. As there "are no accidents in Gods world" then even this(no matter how it has come about) is "exactly as it is supposed to be at this moment, Nothing, absolutely nothing happens in Gods world by mistake." chapter *Acceptance was the answer* or Dr, alcoholic, addict.
If this was recorded at an AA meeting, it is a serious breach of our 12 tradition concerning anonymity; even as a famous sober celebrity known to millions, no one has the right to publicly release the words SRV spoke at a 12 Step meeing. Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all of AA's principles. Shame on you for ingoring that.
@TheoBurke recording of AA speakers is quite common and accepted. it is a great way to share the message. Even using the AA's last name is ok, after they have passed away.
" 11. Our public relations policy is based on attraction rather than promotion; we need always maintain personal anonymity at the level of press, radio, and films. 12. Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all our traditions, ever reminding us to place principles before personalities."
Speaker tapes are common place in the AA community, yes, but the fact remains that you, as an individual, do not have the right to break SRV's anonymity.
You hear in a story what you soul and unconscious interconnects to, reminds me again of Bill W.- Nothing, absolutely nothing happens in God's world by mistake. Until I could accept my alcoholism, I could not stay sober; unless I accept life completely on life's terms, I cannot be happy.

addiction is a disease, alcoholism=addiction to alcohol, an isolated part of the entire genre of addiction. People who are prone to these problems have problems with addictions not substances or stimuli. substances and stimuli do not have consciousness, people are too quick to point fingers, too quick to find a scapegoat, and easily fail to admit to themselves and the world that they have a weakness. People are the problem. I could use the analogy guns dont kill people, people do.

The same year Stevie Ray Vaughan got clean... so did Eric Clapton... and Steven Tyler and the ENTIRE Aerosmith BAND sobered up and released 1987's Permanent Vacation that they regained the level of popularity they had experienced in the 1970s Throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, the band won numerous awards. Their comeback has been described as one of the most remarkable and spectacular in rock 'n' roll history. After 39 years of performing, the band continues to tour and record music.

He died in 1990 which it appears is the same year this speech took place. The other post is either wrong if its implying that alcohol and drugs killed him or its worded bad.
He really drank, I mean he REALLY drank. It makes me so sad, such a great talent and man who fell prey to a disease that is so powerful and DEADLY. He died months after he spoke literally. Alcoholism is very powerful, you just have to DO The steps...
This makes me sad hearing all this but at the same time makes me happy cuase God had mercy on SRV he could've took him when he was on drugs but he didn't. SRV was a wonderful he person he had a big heart. He loved to help people and make people smile even when he was on drugs he sitll wanted to help people.I really miss sRV.
