This was a costly offensive for the russians, probably the costliest of the whole patriotic war, but once they dislodged the germans from their defenses on the dnieper river there was nothing that could stop them. The following year 1944 the red army launched no fewer than ten major offensives, resulting in 1.2 million germans killed and millions more wounded and captured.

The German Stahlhelm is the most effective and the most beautiful helmet ever ! Also the German uniforms. No wonder many Europeans joined the German troops as volunteers.There was something very attractive in the German style. Manhood,bravery , adventure....My father was a Flemish volunteer in the NSKK-transport unit at age 17 ! Now he's 84....he told me allot of the war on the eastern front, good things , but also the bad and sad ones. He was in the region of this video, Charkov,Kiev and so on.

@stefalbert I think dutch helmet is more ergonomic. You can see in videoclip titled: Roumanian Armee 1942 - The Don Bend . It is created in 1942 on the East front. The ZB 26 machine gun is original.

@stefalbert The new helmet used by NATO forces is such as that German during the WWII, like some weapons similar as Panzerfaust and the MG Gun Machine. My grandfather fighted in Russian along the river Don and fortunately he came back to home alive. Many greeting to you.
