One of my Top 3 singles and favorite bands of all time. Would figure out a way to play this song in my sets even though I was spinning more garage/house music in early 90's. Crowds would go wild. Thanks for the post.
I have just listened to several La's songs I never heard in America. All I ever heard was "There she goes." Why is it only the UK produces bands like this? I am sick of music in America. We need another British Invasion! Save us from ourselves.
alright...anyone who thought this version of the song was great...look up the mike hedges version of this song, blows it out of the water and a hundred feet into the sky. no disrespect to this version, but that my friends is real La's.
If you're a fan of thoughtful, melodic pop, and you don't have this album, do yourself a favor and find it! Fantastic! It's a shame that the album sold so poorly in the US, but not that surprising, I guess. It's raw and to the point -- they say what they need to say and get out (with a couple of exceptions, most notably Looking Glass, which is a great song anyway). Hard to believe it's nearly 20 years old. Still love it!
A great band that went away way too soon. By the time I really started liking this record they were history. And I still cringe everytime I hear that God-awful cheesy chick rendition of THERE SHE GOES.
I think this album, on balance, holds up quite well all these years later. While I agree that "There She Goes" is the best song on the album, "Timeless Melody"'s not too shabby either - after all, any band that can put a very Kink's style guitar break certainly has their rock'n'roll heart in the right place.

this song is terrible :/ I thought I'd try again because I just rediscovered "there she goes", but it just reminds me why I sold their album. Shame, "There she goes" is a really great song.
great pop, melodic, genius. this is a great example for all upcomeing bands to see the importance of melody, chord structure, and finding a hook that wants you to hear it again and again and again.australian band faker should do a cover of this song.
saw them in Atlanta at the now defunct Cotton Club. Best band I saw there - and saw Inspirals, Ride, Lush, etc...even when I visited Liverpool in 2004 Lee Mavers name was spoken with hushed reverance. We won't be blessed with one like him soon.
That album was a pure gem. Play it through again sometime- all of the songs are catchy. It reminds me of The Ocean Blue's first album, in the way it waas just a pure crystalyzed sound that captures an era. Kind of one hit wonders, though. What ever happened to them?
"still, the la's album is to rock music what citizen kane is to film -- a masterpiece produced by a genius who never equaled it again. & that's too bad but the masterpiece does exist & that can only be good"
i couldn't agree more... i listen to that album and have a weird feeling of despair at the end... not because the m usic's crap... it's not; but because the freshness of that album will never be recaptured anywhere else... sad.
yip i always thort the same thing and steve lilywhite made the as they said er tried too make them sound simplemindish lolz...that shit band the simple minds lolz .... las rule
brilliant album. you can really hear the daltry voice in mavers. The Who one of the best bands ever influenced them quite a lot. I just hope the new album isn't terrible cos it won't match this one.
i heard/read the la's hated the album and the producer. that floors me b/c it is *the* greatest album i've ever heard in almost 40yrs now of listening to all kinds of music.
i believe it was just a case of splendid serendipity. never to be found again. never to be equaled again.
mavers was touched by the muse of beauty & given what's happened (or not) since then, her loving gaze upon him was a fleeting one.
my words were: "i heard/read the la's hated the album and the producer"
"hated" was a poor choice; maybe "unhappy with " or "dis-satisfied with " would have have been better.
maybe mavers & lilywhite both had too strong an ego to comproprise the details & the devil is in the details.
still, the la's album is to rock music what citizen kane is to film -- a masterpiece produced by a genius who never equaled it again. & that's too bad but the masterpiece does exist & that can only be good
truly scousetastic, retrospectively the best band from the madchester era altho they aint madchista themselves - out there on their own, legendary - skin up yer bastards!
Video production is a little too "flash" for the La's. And a little too "U2ish" for the song production. But the greatness of the song itself overcomes both of those things.
If you are reading this, please stop... 89 years ago, a girl from Puerto Rico was killed. Since then she's starting to kill people by scaring them to death. If you don't post this message to 3 videos in 1 hour she will kill you in 1 week, 2 days and 14 hours. This is true!
My obviously? Or Scruicky's obviously? Whose obviously are you talking about? First, get your grammer straight. Second, explain what the F*ck you're talking about.
A lot of things won't get me into heaven. But thinking this song is catchier than 'There She Goes' is not one of them. And I stand by that. But please type 'you're' instead of 'your,' especially when you're hating on someone. Yeah, I know what's coming..."You're an Idiot." OK, let it out, dude...
the la's last single to date 'feelin' (1991)is a great song. But i consider it there worst single. Thats not being nasty but this song 'timeless melody' is great one (1990)it was the la's first single in almost two years. seince the origional realese of 'there she goes'
Yeah....probably the greatest band that never was, shame. I dont think it could have been any other way though. Mavers is a songwriting genius and never really got the credit he deserved, i hear hes pretty fucked up these days and a virtual recluse/acid casualty. Still, nice one lads :)
