Actually, folks, if Bach had access to an electric guitar and a fuzz box, he might have written something like this to pair with a cathedral pipe organ. Remember that the harpsichord was considered by some to be too jangly back in that day. This vid seems to me to be a freestyling improv with elements of the fugue in Dm and the harpsichord solo in the fifth Brandenburg. Pure JSB it ain't but IMHO an interesting approach.

Nothing wrong in playing with a pick, but this part would have been extremely difficult to pull off without even SOME extent of fingerstyle. Besides, distorted bass always sounds better when it's played with fingers, same way it sounds more vivid if you play clean bass with a pick.
