after seeing and listening their ugly show, now I understood they are worth to nothing. founders of Modern Turkey had more ability than minorities had and youngturks had given more achievement to our community.
thats so funny. both cultures stole lots of things from eachother, I dont know which one is which lol. but I love this culture, I grow up with these kind of songs, musics.
By the way, I think with this song it is so good to drink alcohol: RAKI - UZO, right?:)
@selenitatr they didnt "steal" anything from eachother, tradition and peoples folk culture does not steal, they exchange, they affect each other, they live together almost as one..

i think Roza a judish, they called "Sabetaist" or Ashkenaz Judih. They escaped spain. Ashkenaz mean that peoples name. So Roza can be a judish? This not important but Greek nationalist and Turkish nationalist or anyone nation nationalish must to know, we are just people...We can be different. We are muslim and Greeks christian...i think there are not a dark age...if turkish a barbar anyone nation dint live them country...A lot of naional lived in ottomans.
actually it's the very reverse: turks sing well greek songs..since this is purely eastern ancient greek / byzantine music which influenced both arabian and turkish throughout the centuries

i first listened her on a radio programme. i like to hear some songs are both in greek and turkish. in fact, turkish and greek are very similar languages. i like them both:)
There is too much you do not know about life, i think. They are two languages in the same region. I am afraid that you probably do not know that Spanish and Italian are very similar too.
Actually Greek and Turkish are totally diffeent languages. Turkish is part of the Mongol/Altaic language group. Nothing t do with Greek. I happen to speak both languages. Due to geographical proximity certain words have become common, but 99% of the language is in fact very different. Verbs, sentence structure, etc.
What makes all interesting is that they are too similar although they are from different language groups. While there are still more than 3000 words today in both languages despite the cleaning and refining efforts in both languages,it shouldn't be too difficult to say Turkish and Greek are not similar. Also, the structure and the way of thinking in both languages are doubtlessly the same. There can be nothing normaler than this as the tongue of the people who share the same geography.Take Care!
It's not Mongol-Altaic dude. It's Ural-Altaic. But you're right. Greek and Turkish are two whole different languages. But thanks to 1000 years both languages have some words of each others.
BTW... Is there anybody who will claim this song for Greeks? I saw some of you guys who even claims Tsiftetelli... So it won't be a shock :D
bellatrixdt Spanish and Italian are extremely similar because they both come out from the same radice, which is latin. Greek and Turkish the only similarity they have is some words that Turks took from Greeks, and Greeks took from Turks. They don't even belong to the same linguistic set
Cakici(Cakircali also) Efe was not just great fighter, was the one and only fighter. Do you know however who did he fight, how was he killed and what did he stand ?
All wealthy people of the Ismir /Aidin area dreaded him no matter they were of greek, turk, francoitalian, jewish, armenian or other origin. He was a real Robin Hood. My sources are not greek. Yassar Kemal tells the story micely and fairly.
Pelinassis, please don't post in each Roza's videos that the song is Turkish. We should all admire her lovely voice and not discuss wheter it is Greek or Turkish. We know that there were cultural exchanges in Smyrni between Greek and Turkish so it is very common that songs are found in both languages.
One of the many songs Roza recorded for the NY based Balkan Record Co during her mid 1950s trip to Istanbul. She went there with Agapios Toomboulis (ud) and Lambros Leondarides (lyra), sponsored and accompanied by Aslan Aydin, the Albanian owner of Balkan Records. Sukru Tunar is playing the Clarinet.

Indeed she was a Jew. Although her name indicates the contrary, Roza was not of Ashkenazi, but of Sephardi origin, thus coming from Spain.
