The vocals and music are so passionate and amazing. The Four Tops had a powerful vocal connection. Every time I hear Levi's voice I just stop and listen. He had great command of his voice, even when he let go completely and sung with raw emotion. People feel it, not just hear it. This is only one of the reasons why I will always consider them a favorite.
Has been my favourite 4 tops song since I first heard it in 67, sounds as fresh and wonderful today as it did then, the wonderful Levi lives on every time we hear his beautiful voice
This song sounds simalar to Martha and the Vandellas "Ready for the Love" 1967 the drumb beats on HDH productions had this fast repititious sound like the Tempts "All I Need" The Supremes "The Happening" and a few others keeping up with the 'garage bands" a sound that started to become popular. I love this thanks for posting it!
One of Livi's best and you lonely scared people abandon this one, 99 says what the hell baby its only the truth !! You people living in this corrupt lonely cheating world open those eyes and enjoy what the man is saying,,,one day maybe Livi will tell ya again but this time he would be referring to the past says 99,, you will meet him soon hopefull cause time moves faster the a frieght train ?????
54nomore, I couldn't agree w/ you more about the 60s being the greatest decade in music history. Motown took everyone by surprise, and catapulted to the top notch of American pop; the folk scene here was phenomenal, and the British invasion was a breath of fresh musical literacy, which surely, along with their astute classical instincts, influenced even our own Holland-Dozier-Holland!
I feel privileged to have come of age then, to have 'blossomed' along with the late, great counterculture!
The only thing I didn't like about Levi Stubbs, his vocals didn't flow with the music. It sounds a vocals to music mismatch. That's why I didn't like the Four Tops too much. The Temptations had better vocal to music harmony.
One of my favorites by The Four Tops- .."all the windows out there are black, I'll wait right here till you come back, I'll keep wating, waiting until your face, YOUR face I see." Must have been like a dungeon - kind of heartbreaking'
Motown crosses any divide just live the memories you LOVE

That style of singing isn't shouting, by the way. It's vocal projection. Not everyone can handle a voice so intense, I see.

Levi Stubbs was grace and elegance, his like will probably never be seen again.

All three of the Tops who have passed forward, are remembered with profound fondness, for having influenced me as a performer, and as well, a person.
Class, pure class!
