Wynton is and always has been a highly refined classical musician. He doesn't hear nor understand jazz music. Just compare his Cherokee to Clifford Brown's, or compare anything Wynton plays to Miles Davis. Wynton really does not speak the language of jazz music, he speaks the language of classical music which is why his jazz career has not really been massively influential to the public like Miles. I just wish he would drop the act and go back to being what he clearly is, a classical soloist.
I have this album. It's wonderful! It's impeccable, IMO, on every level of trumpet playing and musicianship. Sometimes I swear to God I forget it's a trumpet playing and sounds a little like a beautiful violin for like half a second on some tracks.
@TheAngeltoDemon it's hard to compare the two and say who's the best. but indeed most likely, maurice andre will go down in history as the best classical player of all time. I just love Wynton's FULL sound. Other piccolo greats sound as if they're playing clarinets.
@guy12349 totally agree, wynton has a crazy HUGE FULL sound on pic trumpet, impossible to compare to each other. i actually like wynton's classical phrasing much more than andre's. how do they do it? amazing

Wynton, how do you cross the border between baroque and jazz music?
In my country people who play jazz sound awful in a classical field, and another way round...
Maybe there's no stylistic border and there is the problem of the players' level?

Masterful ... I love Wynton's playing. Sometimes (often , always) I envy because he's like musical perfection :-)
