@bsilver887 People hate rap because it perpetuates negative stereotypes about the black race, not because it "doesn't sound good." Mainstream rap glorifies drugs, guns, violence, and promiscuous sex. Granted rock does this too, but there are many more aspects of rock other than that in the mainstream. Rap in the mainstream is pretty much one-track.

Even alot of non rap music now is about making money or falling in love but the catchy melody grasps people

I honestly think rap, not necessarily the more popular ones that are more hip hop and do follow the lyric cliches, is generally enjoyable even if you are sophisticated

If you pay enough attention to the rap to catch the words, the rhyming and vocabulary used is top tier, even if they do swear.

@bsilver887 No, people hate rap mainly because most of it has the same exact beat and interchangeable lyrics. This shows they are right for hating rap sincem ost of it is rhythmnless and is more just "Brutal" poetry rather then music, and only becomes music when you put actual music behind it.

@bsilver887 Actually, what I said is the most commonly panned reason next to its vulgarity (Which over use of it is a sign of bad writing). Don't get me wrong, I do not hate "Rap" I just hate what it became. A bunch of angry dudes whining about the police not letting them beat women, and bragging about their awesome cars that even 14 year olds will tell them look silly. They are like rich Halo Playing kids.

It's sad that I'm in university, and while my tastes in music have matured, most people are still stuck in that rut of generic trash. I've strayed away from rap at times because of its state but there is always the few that care enough to release a solid album.
