  • Mick Jagger was hip enough to choose Don as his vocal model. Don Covay was a great writer and singer . I could listen to mercy mercy zillions of times and still dig it as well as cant stay away.

  • This was originally done by The Mello-Moods in '51.. I love their version as well. It's a stale mate for me as to which one is better. Interestingly The Mell-Moods recorded this song on Red Robin which is the label that Don Covay first recorded on as a member of The Rainbows

  • @bluest60 For me Don is one of the geatest. I specially loves his Mercury time. Super Dude and Hot Blood. Somebody's been enjoying my home, I was checkin' out she was checkin' in, Leave him, We can't make it no more, Hold you to your promise and his version of Memphis (Tennesee). All beauties. Me and my neighbour are waiting for the release on CD (from the master) of his Philly Album Travelin' in heavy traffic made in 1976. I have to do it with the vinyl one.

  • Yes, same Don Covay. He goes back to 1954 when he sang with The Rainbows (Mary Lee).
