@spread1971 Genuine industrial music utilizes, at least in part, actual industrial equipment to make sounds. Einsturzende Neubauten, for example. The word industrial is incorrectly overused. Although bands like leather Strip may use electronics to create industrial-sounding noises, it's electronica.
All this fantastic EBM/Elektro only seems to have lasted between 1987-1996.
I remember because the quality of the output of all the big bands just dropped like a stone after 1996. The lyrical content became a joke, self referential greasy kid stuff. The bands that became popular in the States because of the RAS DVA comp just crapped out in a very short time.
Hard to believe that many of them continue fifteen years later. The Third wave + of EBM/Elektro leaves me flat I'm sorry to say.

As far as I know "EBM" is a term invented by electronic music pioneers Front 242. Leaether Strip contains a lot of ingredients of industrial music, but also more complex and fast rythms, as electronica. That's why they can be put under the umbrella-term of electro-industrial. But who cares, it is good music, that's what matters. Nothing beat their early records in the genre
@dyinginternaly My comment did state that I was talking about industrial metal, if leatherstrip are strictly EBM

(1 of 3)After 1 year of the comment I posted(by the way,thanks guys 4 the thumbs up).Now,at the beginning of this past summer,I went to a known Industrial theme night club during my work vacation.1st time there in over 2 years(not since early '08).I use to go to this club twice a month since I went there 1st time in late '04(by '06,only once every 1-4 months).This Industrial club has been around since 1996.Mostly dedicated 2 rivetheads & "cousins" 2 its scene(goths & old skool new wavers).
(2 of 3)So,what do I see over 2 years later,bright white sneakers & glow sticks.About 40% were young Ravers wearing "hip hop" style hoodies & doing the "Melbourne shuffle"(a rave dance move that started during the early 2000 years).1st there was 2 than 7 of 'em on the dancefloor(back then,there were only 2-6 out of 300-700 patrons at these clubs).
(3 of 3)This is not a put down or "hate" comments,I understand these young bucks need a place to dance/have a good time.But listen to today's industrial,power noize,ebm that has come out in the last 10 years,sounds alot like it came out of a major Rave.As "daisaigai7" said,"it's techno crap with wrong labels".
There's also a 3rd dance room playing strickly classic industrial/ebm of the 1980's-'90's.There was NO young 18-21 year olds.Only old skool in their 30s-early 40s.
Dumbass. WGT was a GOTH event. A festival with Gothic Rock and Darkwave bands. And now shut up, you 34 years old bigmouth. You knows absolutely nothing, kiddo.
Major festival? There was no major festival in the 80s or early 90s. There was only a handful of band gigs with Front 242, Nitzer Ebb, Vomito Negro or Click Click. And now please. I'm tired of your shit.
Nonsense. You can not say that Hip Hop is Heavy Metal, because it's wrong. There are stylistic characteristics. And it has nothing to do with point of views.
who cares what industrail is this or that, music is music, some like it,some of it sucks. the message is important, at least this song is speaking about something.

How much I miss the older style of Industrial music of the 1980's(especially late '80s)to '90's(bands like Nitzer Ebb,Lights of Euphoria,Wumpscut,Ministry,Leaether Strip,etc...).In the last 7-8 years,Industrial/EBM/Future-pop(I think that's what they call it in Europe) sounds too much like Trance music from a Rave(don't get me wrong,I like the newer sound but doesn't have that old scool rivet head-goth-darkwave vibe to it.The newer Industrial makes me feel like I should have glow sticks).
There's no newer Industrial (it's only stupid Techno crap with wrong labels). And i don't think that Leather Strip or Wumpscut etc. are Industrial bands.
Industrial music is associated with Throbbing Gristle, SPK, Boyd Rice, Lustmord and early Laibach. Leatherstrip is danceable Hard Electro stuff, nothing more.
Industrial music isn't really danceable. It's head music, not club music.
Well, mostly you're right, but there is "Pneumatic Detach" "Terrorfakt" and much more Industrial Bands, that has nothing to do with Techno, Electro or Dark Electro
Terrorfakt? It's a typical Drum & Noise group. I don't call it "Industrial". This is Post-Post-Industrial (yeah, double-Post) with Techno- and Breakcore influences. Same stuff like Converter, Imminent Starvation and Hands Records stuff. :P
I know what you mean about how Industrial has changed. I was in an Industrial club recently and asked if they'd play Blue Man Group's "Drumbone." They refused, on the grounds "it wasn't industrial." I was like, "Not industrial? o.O" lol
watch?v=wN4E09Kx5Eo - the song by itself.
watch?v=r-nzQg97uUs - how the song is usually played live.
I'm sorry, but if you ask me, you can't get much more "industrial" than PVC pipe! XD
I like Blue Man Group, but you gotta be kidding right? A Genre, regardless of its roots and name is still about a particular "sound" and BMG ain't it.
Your logic is like saying that a rythm made by hitting two stones together counts as "Rock music" because, hey, it's music made with rocks!
Ummmm ... I would say that this "industrial" is more akin to "Dance," which evolved from "New Wave," which has it's roots more in "Disco." So this would qualify as "electronic," while BMG is often called "electronic" in spite of the fact they generally don't like using synthesizers.
I have been told this is a "purist" definition, however, and isn't commonly held since, you know, nobody likes "purist" definitions.
@daisaigai7 yeah, Leatherstrip is even more industrial than SPK etc. =P stop flaming all your incompetent opinions, who dont care! All "new school"-haters are just lamed by their "old school" shit they cant hear anymore lol!
Was du New School nennst, is nix anderes als aufgewärmte Raver-Scheiße.
Schade eigentlich...
I disagree, the early industrial started as a audio/performance-art movement, not really as music and later it started to develope in different directions.
The danceable stuff is either Ebm, Harsh Ebm, Electro-industrial, post-industrial or this new wave of ebm that i refues to call ''aggrotech''. For me the new wave is futurepop, techno body music or something else these ''technoer'' harsh ebm-sounding bands are..
Oh .. and before I forget .. Strap me down was released on 1994, and Psychonaut75 was formed on 1997, so I think, if a Song is a Rip-Off, it's Serpents
Who told you Rudy (Wumpscut) is american? Not that I dont want him to be but the german page with a Bio, where he says himself that he is born, raised and lives in germany, might tip you off :-p
I saw an interview that XP8 (If you don't know them, check them out!) did with the dude from wumpscut, he joked about them pronouncing the band name in German and said he was from the states, could of just been taking the piss though, in fact its looking rather likely.
Great song. Reminds me of old Front Line Assembly

Nonsense. In Europe we called this noisy stuff "Hardcore Electro" or "Electro-Industrial". In the states, people called it "Industrial Dance".
EBM was music like Nitzer Ebb and early Krupps, with clean sequences, punky staccato beats and military shouts.
Distorted vocals and noisy beats, used by Psychopomps, Numb or Leæther Strip, are absolutely a-typical for EBM.

This is "newer" Industrial IMO.
daisaigai7 2 years ago
I know what you mean about how Industrial has changed. I was in an Industrial club recently and asked if they'd play Blue Man Group's "Drumbone." They refused, on the grounds "it wasn't industrial." I was like, "Not industrial? o.O" lol
watch?v=wN4E09Kx5Eo - the song by itself.
watch?v=r-nzQg97uUs - how the song is usually played live.
I'm sorry, but if you ask me, you can't get much more "industrial" than PVC pipe! XD
LeksServices 2 years ago
I like Blue Man Group, but you gotta be kidding right? A Genre, regardless of its roots and name is still about a particular "sound" and BMG ain't it.
Your logic is like saying that a rythm made by hitting two stones together counts as "Rock music" because, hey, it's music made with rocks!
rabidowski 2 years ago 9
LeksServices 2 years ago
actualy it started around early punk days and all the groups doing industrial all had their own sound there never was one industrial sound or style.

@daisaigai7 You're absolutely right, and that's called EBM or "electronic body music.
Also, Skinny Puppy can be mildly danceable.
egdeltur666 1 year ago
@daisaigai7 yeah, Leatherstrip is even more industrial than SPK etc. =P stop flaming all your incompetent opinions, who dont care! All "new school"-haters are just lamed by their "old school" shit they cant hear anymore lol!

Was du New School nennst, is nix anderes als aufgewärmte Raver-Scheiße. Passt scho. ;-)
daisaigai7 1 year ago
GottSeinHofnarr 1 year ago
@GottSeinHofnarr
daisaigai7 1 year ago
GottSeinHofnarr 1 year ago
Schade eigentlich...
GottSeinHofnarr 1 year ago
@GottSeinHofnarr
daisaigai7 1 year ago
GottSeinHofnarr 1 year ago
@GottSeinHofnarr
daisaigai7 1 year ago

@daisaigai7 well done kiddoe. who needs genres, → I know what sounds good to me. Check my favs, why do you need a genre to follow like a lemming
zyclonb6 1 year ago
@daisaigai7
For me the new wave is futurepop, techno body music or something else these ''technoer'' harsh ebm-sounding bands are..
gombie 1 year ago
@gombie so what do you consider Skinny Puppy?
zyclonb6 1 year ago
@zyclonb6
Post-industrial and Electro-industrial.
Of course there's different kind of electro-industrial, just like there is ebm.
Industrial scene lacks of genre-names and i'm fine with it. Just as long as nothing is labeled as ''angry techno'' or something.
gombie 1 year ago
@daisaigai7
:D and I always have thought that Industrial simply is dance/nightclub music for alternative people :D

I searched for it, and listen to it .. it doesn't even sound like Strap me down .. so what are you talking about?
ShadowDevotion 2 years ago
Forget it, but cmon the synths and constructure is SO similiar!
i bet its the same sample if not, its very similiar.
MagnitudePerson 2 years ago
Look at the other Comment from me .. it can't be similiar.
ShadowDevotion 2 years ago
Oh .. and before I forget .. Strap me down was released on 1994, and Psychonaut75 was formed on 1997, so I think, if a Song is a Rip-Off, it's Serpents

I saw an interview that XP8 (If you don't know them, check them out!) did with the dude from wumpscut, he joked about them pronouncing the band name in German and said he was from the states, could of just been taking the piss though, in fact its looking rather likely.
