being in hong kong, coffee isn't exactly the daily drink everyone needs. therefore, there aren't many local coffee shops, and starbucks is the only choice.
what does "fair trade coffee by the cup" mean lol?
Maybe, just maybe if your local coffee shop would do anything to make this world we live in a better place more people would support it. Instead we get these people who talk about doing greater things and say "think green" but what are they really doing to change any of it? Please by all means continue to buy coffee that isn't fair trade or ethically grown, that will come in a Styrofoam cup that can be added to your local landfill and seep into your water supply.
This video asked baristas at starbucks "licensed" stores about their fair trade coffee, in turn they got ignorant answers from barnes and nobles and kroger employees. Starbucks licensed store baristas are a lot of the times the same person stocking your milk section every day.
If you are looking for a caffeine kick a medium cup of coffee has more in it than that of a shot of espresso. Sorry to say it but if you think you are getting that amazing boost from your fancy beverage its all in your head. You might also have a spending problem which might explain your complaints about prices. Starbucks is also in fact the largest purchaser of fair trade coffee out there and just doubled there investment in ethically grown and fair traded coffee.
For everyone on here saying that its 6 - 8 bucks for a cup of coffee, you are being unrealistic. A cup of coffee runs around 1.65 - 1.95. The prices you are talking about are of the more fancy beverages such as lattes and frappucinos. Which start at 2.80 and can go to a cost of your choice based on the size you want and its ingredients. exmp: shot of espresso, syrups, milk options such as soy all cost extra. In no other coffee shop is this different.
Our mom and pop coffee shops are slowly going out of business because of Starbucks. They also have bought a multimillion dollar jet and waste hundreds of gallons of water every single day. This was the finally straw for me and why I do not support Starbucks.
I use to like them til they became popular and everywhere! The raising prices doesn't help. I have also noticed the taste to the drinks isn't as good as it use to be.
i agree ... bitching about how all the local coffee shops are suffering is their main argument. but they forget that companies like starbucks started out as small, local businesses too.
yes but his point is so much as that starbucks has bad coffee and is eventually going to be the only coffee store that will survive in the world. not to mention the insane prices. something tells me your not very political are you.
i actually like their coffee, so do millions of other people. and if their coffee's really that bad then how have they been so successful, eh? ... think before you speak.
think before you speak see in his test i bet about 1/4 had thought starbucks was the best coffee they have had but then found out that the leading brand was better they are succesful because of advertising and they offer more than coffee i hate coffe and i got there every once in a while to get a cream based drink no coffee added they have dam good hot chocolate too
... i still stress to you the FACT in this argument. starbucks is undoubtedly the most successful coffee business ... so surely they don't make bad coffee, right?
i never said that they werent taking over the world that is the point sherlock my point is it is possible for a badish company to take over everyone else if they have the bucks and starbucks started out good with money and slowly depleted other smaller companies and as that happens they can spend less on quality products and not be as great but still be dominant it happens all the time with large companies.. its called good competition
OK, I have to ask. I ave not been home to Chico in more than ten years. I think I don't want the answer to this but here it goes. Does anyone know if, Perce No! is still open? Would I even know Chico is i saw it?
you did studies in licensed stores, not owned by starbucks and employees dont go through coffee education training. this isnt accurate info. if you go to a corporate store, ones that are on street corners, partners (employees) will tell you that you may not like their coffee cause starbucks dark roasts it as much as possible, and all coffees are fair trade. do your research son!
Starbucks started out as a "small local" coffee place, I expect many others to have done the same as them. Also, the taste test really only told me which they thought Starbucks is, not which is better. I think only two maybe three of them said which was better. But an interesting point none the less.
theres gonna be an awful lot of people who will be working in starbucks.
