I watched the Echo and the Bunnymen in Rio de Janeiro in 1987 and still this show is considered the best show the band's career. And that does not show up today out of my head!!
I love Echo and the BunnyMen always have always will. I got all of their albums learned every song on the drums. pete was and is one of my biggest drumming influences, cheers to all Echo Fans
Always great playing at home. Amongst the gods when Pete played between 81 and 87. Last seen em in Sheffield in 98, couldn't watch em again. Just made me aware of my mortality. Technically great, but lacking the youthful edginess the old great (to 81) songs really demand. Not the Bunnymen for me without Pete. Unless they just did post-98 stuff. Last lp fantastic, best since 81.
Went to Liverpool today. On the waterfront. There is an irreverent and cool statue with the Bunnymen painted on it. A few metres along, a grand but simple statue to the man who commanded British seamen against the U-Boats, and a tribute to the men who have "No graves but the sea". I had an adrenalin rush all day.
Amazing. They played the entire Ocean Rain Album with black and white photos from the band's history displayed on giant screens from both sides of the stage.
Then took an intermission and then played their standard set.
There are coming back in April to play Crocodiles and Heaven Up Here in their entirety. We are going back for sure.
