just because the guy had a 32 dose not mean that he was the whole 9 yards which all of the schools, usma, usna, usafa etc are looking for you need alot more then good act scores to get in
This isnt a high school program, it is basically a year of college, that primarily prepares you just for the MIlitary Academies, the chances for entering into an academy after attending this program is much better
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Sounds like a kickass institution. Hell, it'd be nice if you could just earn a commission right off the bat(thinking it can be much more than a prep school)!
Hello, I am a junior in high school I have decent grades and my SAT scores are not where I want them to be. I know its going to be very difficult to achieve a goal such as gaining admittance to the Air Force Academy but i am ready to take that challenge. I was lucky enough to stumble upon this video... it opened my eyes. I feel like I have a safety net to fall back on. I want to know if this program really works? Like apart from propaganda... can some one give me a real answer? Thank You
If you don't get into USAFA they also have a prep school there in Colorado it's also one year and you'll automatically enter with the next incoming class
the only prep school that offers automatic admission to the academy they are affiliated with is the Naval Academy. With the Air Force prep school, it looks really good to the academy. they say it isn't guaranteed because only about 210 of 240 get in
believe me, the academics are tough and is highly geared toward mathematics, chemistry, physics and engineering. these subjects require high levels of math skills as well as high ACT and SAT score. second is the appointment from a congressional source or a presidential appointment. there are also military service appointments as well. third but equally important is the physical and athletic skills that you will definitely need. last but most important is integrity, honor and committment.
I had great grades, Eagle Scout, Black Belt, lots of work experience as a math tutor, lots of college experience, ROTC experience, and the academy rejected me cause of my SAT and ACT scores. It is all about your SAT and ACT scores. Sucks but true.
Same with me and I had two nominations both times I applied. Now I'm not sore about it at all. I definitley would have gone because I would know sooner than later that I'll get to be an officer, but ROTC and even OCS are just as good programs. I have seen a lot of studs go through the Academy and come out studs and I've seen even more turds go through and come out polished turds. A marine helicopter pilot is the one who told me that he didn't give a flyin flip where the next to him went.
I don't mean to bash on females or anything, but they do lower the standards a bit for them to keep ratios up. Its nothing against women, but most women aren't thinking about joining the military...
you should take that phrase to give up and utilize it as a motivator to show them that you have what it takes, its that phrase that seperates the men from the boys.
The sat and act do not measure your intelligence or academic potential. Why do I have all As in math and english but scored really low on those stupid test. Pretty much it. Those test killed my life. :(
Academies have an afinity for those who possess an unusual amount of perserverance coupled with a never-quit attitude. If you are not 23 +/- 1 years old by in-processing day, and have enough time/energy to keep trying, I suggest you do. I know a guy who completed 3yrs of college by the time he got admitted. If greystone doesn't take you in, look up Northwestern Prep in California. The Durbeck's will take you in... and you can live a civilized life doing prep work there to boost your SATs. '05
Hey thanks for the advice. lol The air Force Academy doesn't seem to really care about my determination. I didn't take there rejection good at all. I wrote them, sent them my transcript, and forced my letter around to different people in the admissions office. It didn't do much good... Hmm I never heard of that school before. Thanks for the heads up.
I am not sure if I will go to greystone though. I will have to quit ROTC if I do. Not worth missing a year of ROTC if I get rejected...
I wouldn't feel bad, USAFA takes grades highly into account especially the ACT SAT, its about 60% of you file, best way to make up for that is being recruited for a sport, and being a minority.
I applied to USAFA and got nomination. I have pretty much all As, and I still got rejected all because of the "FAKE" sat and act scores. God it hurts to watch this. I can't even apply here because I have already started college...blah........
SAT scores do test academic potential via test taking capability. If you cant test you cant make it at an elite school. There are many people who work diligently at school and make A's but cant test well. They wont do well in any elite institution. Drive on.
I think it is funny how people tell me to drive on. Pretty much telling me to give up. Listening to people who tell you to give up is one of the worst things you can do. But w/e
Drive on is the opposite of giving up. It says accept the cards you have been dealt and play your hand the best you can. You have a defeatist attitude, another trait that doesnt promote success. Gotta get over it and work through the muck. At some point you will see the light at the end of the tunnel, and if not. Sorry. I would never say give up.
Naw, SAT and ACT really does not tell anything. It is an easy way of turning 5,000 applicants into only 2,000 people to think about. Its all politics, from my experience it does not matter where you go. Yes the Academy is a dream, but at the end of the day we are all doing the same job.
Greystone got me an appointment to the United States Merchant Marine Academy and wait listed to West Point this week.... and Navy is Next! It is an awesome program and it works!
I was given a second chance.
If anyone has any questions about Greystone Prep School, please send me a message, believe me when I say this program works!
My dream is to go to the USAFA. I am a sophmore in High School and im maintaing Honor Roll status but I want to get tips to secure a place at the Academy
In February 2004 I received a phone call from my congressman informing me that I wouldn't be going to a the Naval Academy. They said I wasn't good enough, that my recent knee injuries just wouldn't allow me to perform as required. CDR Bailey gave me a second chance. He did everything he could to help me and in I earned my appointment to USNA. I will graduate on May 22nd, 2009. GO NAVY! BEAT ARMY!
I can't think of a better place for those aspiring to attend a service academy. With the multitude of opportunities Greystone provides its students, the astounding success that these students achieve seems almost a given. I'm impressed.
I honestly cannot thank Greystone enough for everything it taught me which has translated into nothing but success. I received an amazing education and experience thanks to CDR David Bailey and his program, and I am now living the dream I have always had. It opened my eyes to all of my options and allowed me the ability to CHOOSE between multiple academy appointments. It's a fantastic program and I cannot thank Greystone enough
Every year Greystone students volunteer as Big Brother Big Sisters mentors to children at the Doyle Community Center. To give you an idea about Greystone's impact...the attendance rate of children who attend the Doyle Center is always higher on days when Greystone is volunteering. As Greystone students begin their careers in the respected academies to serve our country, they are already making a BIG difference in our community.
The Greystone program works. It doesn't just bridge the gap between High School and the Academies, it slingshots you ahead of your classmates in terms of academics, athletics and maturity once you arrive. The Greystone staff really does care and there is nothing they won't do to help you achieve your dreams. There is no better place in the country for Academy preparation. These aren't just idle claims, I'm living proof.
What an amazing video. I went to Greystone last year and now I'm at the Naval Academy. I cannot express how much I appreciate and am indebted to the Greystone program. This video is absolutely amazing and only reminds me of what I dreamed of as a child, what I strived to achieve last year, and what I am living now. Those that have the deep desire to serve deserve the chance to do so. They deserve the second chance that Greystone offers.

Can you come here and be in the Marine Corps Reserve?
Jocol85 1 year ago
From what I've seen it seems the Academy focuses on these certain criteria when choosing candidates:
1. Athletics
2. Community Service
3. Academic Achievement
4. ACT/SAT scores (yes separate from academic achievement)
5. Military Background
6. Race (not kidding. the academies are trying to diversify now, VMI is notorious for rejecting MANY females. They gotta fix that.)
The first 4 criteria are the ones that the student cant control. The last 2 are by the luck of the draw.
