  • i die

  • i love how he says mangling in "Tango: Maureen".

  • I can't help but just see Barney Stinston,

  • LOVE the username. x)

  • he is pure love <3

  • Is there any audio-visual footage of this show?

  • Normally I would be like why are you people yelling at a musical? That being said, I let out a few "Woos" when I saw this show. Wanna know why? It's a great show and it has the right atmosphere for it. I would never "woo" for a show like Book of Mormon, or Phantom of The Opera, it's just inappropriate. It's a way to give feedback to the cast. When I'm onstage I HATE quiet audiences. I would much rather have an audience like this then a quiet one. Though the "Go Neil" was too much.

  • Not to be a bitch, 'cause I agree to some extent that the "Go Neil" was a little gauche, but if we think about theatre from its conception and that audience catharsis and response was primary to the production...I mean, I think it's better to have a really rambunctious crowd than a passive one. As an actor, I'd rather have people shouting and cheering and clapping than barely responsive until curtain.

  • I liked listening to this a lot! I think I like his version of Tango: Maureen the most out of these three. Just really irritated at the hooting and hollering. I could deal with most of it cuz I've seen it happen before (seen people holler at a performance of The Nutcracker Ballet, no joke) but I think the deafening 'GO NEIL' really did it for me. Come on people.

  • God, Neil was so perfect for this part....

  • ....Someone seriously yelled "Yeah Neil!"? Like....what? Are you aware that you're even AT a broadway musical? Save that for the bows. They're in character. If you really love them that much, then give them enough respect to keep them in character, ignore their celebrity and actually enjoy the show for the show. Yelling "Go Neil!" completely cheapens his entire performance because it means you're not convinced. You're STILL seeing Neil Patrick Harris up there. It's pretty insulting.

  • the crowd needs to learn some manners

  • You folks need to relax! I realize it's Neil Patrick Harris and it's Broadway- but if there was that much energy in the theatre- I'm guessing the cheers were well earned! It's a ROCK musical about being who you are and saying what you feel for goodness sake!

  • WHY CAN'T I SEE THIS LIVE!

  • I love how the picture is from SNL. XD

  • From what I CAN hear over the rude crowd, he's actually really good! I had no idea! (Not really a fan of him, I wouldn't know.)

  • i know it's supposed to be informal like a concert but i'd like to hear the performers

  • HOLY OMG OANBAEPORFIJA IM GONNA DIE I NEEEEEED TO SEE IT

  • the people who are complaining about the shouters, you're the reason theatre's seen as elitist and inaccessible to people. You need to change your attitude and snobbishness towards fellow audience members. Shouting and applauding isn't the way to go about things during a play, I would never do so myself but different people respond to art in different ways. Many people who shout and cheer probably haven't been to the theatre much before. By shunning them this way you put them off visiting again

  • @LaurenSaysCupcakes Are you kidding me? Have these people been to a movie theatre? Do they shout and whoop and holler there? No? Then I think they can figure out that it's fucking rude to do it at a live show as well.

  • I'd love to see the performance but i guess there's no video /:

and I agree with everyone here, IT'S BROADWAY! NOT A FUCKING CONCERT !!!

  • @CodBit31 ikr?

  • OMG HE WAS MARK!!!?!???!??!??!?!!!??? Holy crap! I love Neil Patrick Harris!!! Have to say, Anthony Rapp did a better singing job.

And I saw a ton of comments about the screaming so... Who does that? It's broadway, not some concert you get drunk at.

  • These are the idiots that ruin theater...God damn.... did they get out lighters too?

  • I'm sorry, I can't look at him in the Mark costume... it looks ridiculous on him :D :D

  • Oh my god. I'm a 15 year old girl and I know better than to scream like that during a show. "Yeaaaah GO NEIL!" What the hell is wrong with you?

  • Why can't this person just post the full songs? What the hell is this? There is nothing else of him onstage as Mark! JUST POST THE FULL EFFING SONGS!

  • Wow. I thought I was ghetto. But this audience lacks theatre etiquette...

  • You've got to be kidding me. Really people? This is not a freaking concert!

Neil was fantastic, the best Mark since the original, but my gosh people.

    Ugh.

  • lol. now I know why Journalist Kelly Nestruck wrote in The Guardian that "Rent fans...are known colloquially as Rentheads and even more colloquially as the most annoying of all musical fans" [wikipedia..lol]

..because all this damn cheering happens! like what the hell..ever heard of theater etiquette guys?

  • why is this audience so damn noisy

  • LOL WHEN DID HE DO THIS?! XD

  • its a video of rent with neil?

  • I hate when people post something and its just a picture

  • @Musikgrrl27 you would hate it even more if this didn't exist because iit was taken down due to copyright violation.

  • You would hate it even more if you couldn't hear this because it was taken down due to copyright violation, which is what would have happened if it was a full video

  • i went to the reaction thing and was like wheres the legen- wait for it.... DARY button?

  • Neil will always be my favorite Mark. :D

  • i love NPH he is awesome

  • Neil Patrick Harris is amazing. Mind you, I will always believe Anthony Rapp is the best Mark out there, but he's the original! If you will, he's the bar that's been set, and he's what we expect. He is the face of Mark. BUT, for being someone attempting to live in a role where these expectations are SO intense, I think NPH did an absolutely FABULOUS job. Anthony WAS Mark. He will always be the 'real' Mark in my brain. But of all those cast after him, NPH is by far my favorite. :)

  • @Linneamful I couldn't have put it any better myself! :)

  • I agree that Anthony Rapp was a better Mark than Neil, but it's kind of unfair comparing anybody's Mark to Anthony's.

  • When was this???... like where and when?

  • where did you find those songs?..I'd like to hear whole songs x)

  • Neil is a great actor and a wonderful singer, but his performance is substandard compared to Anthony Rapp's. Rapp put his heart and soul into Mark's character, and his voice conveys great emotion. Neil's voice, while good, was hollow and he relied too much on the inflection of his voice to worry about the soul he needed to put into it. He is a great theatre actor, but his stint as Mark was not his greatest moment by far.

  • What idiot screams out "woohoo! Go Neil!" at a Broadway musical? Dumb shit, it's not a mosh pit.

  • Dude on tht website u hav at the end, none of the vids or audio even work for me :'( any chance u can post em here? Thnx! BTW I love when u yell out "Yeah Neil!" ;)

  • he's so fucking hot. pardon my french. he's so fucking belle.

  • does anyone know where i can watch it full? :(

  • Love NPH... he's such a cutie-pie!

  • I love NPH to death! :D

  • Oh god,I would do everything just to see Neil playing Mark. XD

  • I think that cowboy type dude off The Simpsons is in the audience. "WOOHOOHOO!" "YEAAAH NEIIILL!"

I mean, all he needs to do is start shooting the roof. xD

  • people need to calm down during la vie boheme. like yes, it's good, but shush til the end of the darn song!

  • im still in love with anthony as mark

  • This would have been VERY interesting to watch!

  • I love NPH, and rent.. but truthfully, to me, NPH looks like he should be Roger, not mark. But either way, i love him :)

  • @CanYouSayBubbles He may look like a Roger to you, but the man has a total Mark personality, and couldn't pull off Roger, imho.

  • What I think: Anthony IS and will always will be Mark, while Neil is the best Mark.

  • I like Neil and all but Anthony Rapp is better xD <3

  • Please post the full thing!!!!!!

  • I LOVE YOUR NAME!!!!! suicidalmickeym0use. isnt that from maureens protest??

  • I had no idea this had ever happened! He would be fabulous, and it sounds like he was! Love NPH

  • the mark look suits NPH

  • I almost wish Neil had played Mark in the movie instead of Anthony :p

  • anyway we can get it if we dont have anything to trade?

  • i luv la vie boheme and take me or leave me :)

  • @mabirger he doesn't sing take me or leave me

  • @sweetreat2 duh i know im just saying i luv tdem songs thax 4 ur conser rook

  • people should stop treating this like a concert. u dont cheer during a song during a show, its actually considered rude

  • @Jooma17 Uh actually, as a performer, I totally think it's acceptable to cheer during a song for this type of musical. It's Rent for god sakes, calm your tits. It's not a Sondheim show.

  • i love his version of La Vie Boheme!!!!!!

  • Lmao, "go NEIIIILLLL!"

  • I understand why the person is cheering in the recording. He must be high from watching. Give him a break, guys. :)

  • I'd give anything to see Neil performing the Tango: Maureen! It must've been so fun!

  • Who is playing Joanne in Tango: Maureen?

  • @ilovegreen1396 it sounds like Tracie Thoms but I might be wrong

  • its painful to watch, unfortunatley because of the idiot audience.

  • Hey, would you be willing to trade this show for a cam of the obc of Wicked? (I've also got Phantom from broadway 2002, but the last minute or so is missing)

  • Anthony: The Original Markiescarf.

    NPH: Lengen.... DARY!

  • @kuramaisminestayaway HEY HEY HEY!!! I dont care how good NPH is...Anthony Rapp is 10x better and will ALWAYS be the best mark

  • @tppipersa I agree with you 100%!!!

  • I really love Neil. I love him in RENT, but I personally love Anthony Rapp as Mark more because he was truly Mark. I witnessed Rapp performed on stage, and he was Mark.

But I welcome wonderful Neil to the role. I'm sure Anthony Rapp would too.

  • The person hooting and hollering right by the mic of the camera (presumably the person filming or a friend) sounds like Goofy.

  • As much as I love NPH Anthony Rapp made a better Mark.. maybe because his personality fit the charcter more. But I LOVED NPH in "La Vie Boheme". :)

  • Yep. The woo hoo is pretty annoying.

  • Anthony Rapp ALWAYS wins.....but it's still NPH

  • I didn't like his riffs very much

  • this is great! i wish i knew neil patrick harris and the fact that he did rent four years earlier!

i can't say i'd choose him over anthony rapp but NPH is an amazing mark in his own way.

is there any way i can watch the tour with NPH in it?

  • I'm sorry... NPH is an incredibly talented actor and an AMAZING tenor, but I can't take him seriously after following How I Met Your Mother for the last 5 years. I think I'll stick with the OBC Recording and the DVD of the last Broadway performance.

  • @MitchConnelly I don't like HIMYM much, but that doesn't mean the guy can't sing. Obviously you haven't seen Dr. Horrible, because he sang his ass off in that. NPH is a great singer.

  • @Kiltedwolf Excuse me, mister condescending, but I have seen Dr. Horrible. It's a comedy and it's why I can't take him seriously. He just seems like he is always trying to get a laugh, and that's not what Mark or RENT in general is about.

  • @MitchConnelly Well, you're the one who is judging him based on ONE role he has played. Now who is condescending? Gee, hmm. It's fine though. I understand that people can get turned off of certain things and people. Cheers.

  • @Kiltedwolf Cheers.

  • i wish i could have seen this. it would rock my world!

  • NPH has played Mark? Goddammit universe, how do you always manage to make the awesome even more superior?

  • does anyone here knows where i can watch rent with neil patrick harris is in? if not, the song then? or a recording? i am dying to hear him sing rent songs...

its so sad i wasn't able to watch rent in broadway when it was showed last feb...

  • I am incoherent right now. I discovered RENT and NPH at different times in my life, both waaaayyyy after RENT was popular and way after Neil was in RENT but to see them intersect like this is so amazing. God, I would just die if I could hear the whole La Vie Boheme song...

  • In my history class, we're watching Joan of Arc and I FREAKED when the credits said his name!

Then I got in trouble, but it was okay because NPH is too awesome!

  • @BeautifullyTragicLFB Same thing happened in my French class when we watched that!

  • seeing NPH and Mark would, I think, make my whole entire life.

  • You know my friends yelled at me when we went to go to a local performance of RENT. I like STFU. It's RENT. NPH is epically awesome.

  • i love rent and mark, but I LOVE NPH!!! <3 HE IS MY LIFE :) xx

  • haha, not to sound like a complete nerd but at 1:33 - "YEAH, NEIL!!" .....its not a concert, its a play, and he's Mark, NOT Neil !! wtf.

  • This is awesome. I wish I had something to trade...

  • I'll trade for this show!!

  • Oh geez, he is my idol. I think someone put it well when they said you can't really compare him and Anthony Rapp because Anthony IS Mark, and Neil is just incredible at PLAYING Mark.

  • He seems like he made a really funny mark

  • I love him, but he looks kind of weird in the glasses

  • Mark is my favorite character, i like both of them (Anthony Rapp and NPH). But i like both :)

  • like him better than the original

  • i ADORE Neil, and his voice and his awesomness, but i just can't see him fitting into the role of Mark.

i dunno why, but though i love RENT, and i love Neil, i just can't see them fitting together.

  • i think its because we know him as the young guy on that 70s show and the villain on in spiderman so its hard seeing him as the innocent mark lol... i believe if u and I went and watched without knowing who he was on broadway in 98' we would say that was a good mark...lol

  • That is not Topher Grace. Its Neil Patrick Harris. He was a villian on Batman tho...

  • oh shit thats right... my bad sorry i take back my comment... who did he play on batman?

  • Only topped by Anthony. WOW.

  • OMG

    He's adorable.

    Can I have him? Please?

  • i like his ad libs

  • he is extremely (multi) talented and underrated.

  • I adore Neil very much. He's my second favorite Mark, and that's only because his competition is ANTHONY RAPP... But anyway, NPH is freaking amazing.

  • OMMMGGG. I LOVE NPH. <3

AND HE'S IN THE OUTFIT -FREAKOUT-

..okay, calming down. He's playing my favorite character, too. -clapclap-

  • Yes! Mark was my favorite character! I love Neil. I love Anthony. But... OH MY GOD! NEIL!! <3

  • I prefer Neil to Anthony Rapp. 'Cause, you know, Neil's freakin' legen, wait for it, dary.

  • @TheRealGenericTroupe dude rap p like lived the role ..he just jumped on the band wagon ..neil was being a doctor and riding that sucess train when rapp was living it

  • Comment removed

  • As an actor, it would be really annoying to have someone shout your "real" name in the middle of the show. On a happier note, Neil is fantabulous. I wish I could have seen him do this.

  • You have no idea.

  • I had no freaking idea he was in this!

OMG, I love him, he is adorable!

  • i want to SEE him do this!! he's so freakin' adorable!!

  • YEAH NEIL!

  • Now I want to hear NPH's entire "Tango Maureen" and "La Vie Boheme". He has such a nice voice.

  • More people like him now because more people have HEARD of him. You can't like somebody you've never heard of. But it doesn't have anything to do with him being homosexual.

  • I doubt it has anything to do with him being homosexual. He's simply better-known now.

Oh no, does homosexuality offend 'Jesusfreak?' Maybe someone is bitter.

  • He was a child star, playing Doogie Howser on TV before Rent. It wasn't until he got on a couple of movies and How I Met Your Mother that he became better known. Most people thought he became even more awesome from Dr. Horrible's Sing-along Blog. It has nothing to do with his sexuality.

  • "Yeah, NEIL!!!!!" lol

    That's an energetic audience.

  • wow, that's so great. i wish i could've seen him as mark.

  • Neil is not as good as anthony!

  • OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • IT was a fabulous show!!! I saw it 3 times

  • GAH!!!! I'd LOVE to see NPH as Mark!!!

  • Oh wow, i would kill to see Nph as Mark on stage! He sounds amazing, and he suits the part <3

  • YEAH NEIL!! I love him.

  • no anthony rapp BUT nph can do no wrong.

  • I love him so much.

  • this are pictures from snl, what about the show

  • I like Anthony Rapp just fine, but... god... i mean... IT'S NEIL PATRICK HARRIS!!!! *stupid fangirl swoon*

  • i would have so loved to seen him as Mark!!!!!!

  • hes so adorable. id go see the show just for him even though i dont like the show.

  • He is the best Mark since Anthony.

  • He was Mark! I didnt know!!!! And the some songs were written for Anthoney.

  • all of the songs were written for one actor because Jonathan Larson(RIP) never expected for it to become as big as it did.

  • Well Jonathan wrote most of the songs before the show was cast, so he didn't write them for a specific actor. However, the song "Halloween," for example, Jonathan wrote specifically for Anthony during the workshop.

  • No...not really.... Jonathan wrote a "Base" of all the songs then he wrote (like you said) Halloween, changed goodbye love to make Mark (Anthony) less selfish (cus in the NYTW version Mark is questioned about why he doesn't see why Roger is suffering... than it's changed to Anthony's point of view) all to fit Anthony and HIS character

  • Not really..

Mark's character witnesses everything alone. So that's where Halloween comes in because he had just gone through the funeral of Angel.

In the NYTW version everyone BUT Mark has AIDS. Joanne, Benny, and Maureen too, so he questions why life is the way it is and how in the world can he be suffering it by himself.

Goodbye Love is the tension between Mimi and Roger because Mimi's throwing her life away to drugs so the only thing Roger knows how to do is run away.

  • ..... go watch the documentary "No Day But Today" in the "RENT" movie 2- disc DVD......it explains everything

  • Not really, I know much more then you probably think I do. I've talked to OBR members of RENT who've told me many things.. And the true sources are what you find online, what you talk about with the OBC...

  • I believe he also wrote "What You Own" because of Anthony/for his voice.

  • he's awesome!!

We're going to do "RENT" in school! Hope it's going to be as good as Neil!!

  • be prepared for some editing, they likely won't let you mention S&M and strippers

  • depends on where u are because my school let us do all of the songs without editing. it really depends on ur principal.

  • true, still i've heard of some REALLY bad rewrites, like instead of aids they had tuberculosis, and they turned Joanne into a guy, and Angel was a girl, and Mimi wasn't a stripper

  • That's interesting because in the Opera that Rent is based on, the Joanne character is a wealthy man. The Mimi had tuberculosis, she was a seamstress not a stripper. These "REALLY bad" rewrites are very reminiscent of the opera. So you might say that they are rewrites are of a play that is a rewrites it's self. I just think it's interesting to think of it that way. I can also see how when out of the context of the Opera, which is actually pretty different, these changes wouldn't go over well.
