@C32347K17732 LOL, sorry I should have said. I am the maker of this video. This is my old channel. What I meant to say in the discription is that the north (of which Groningen is a part) was liberated by Canadians. That's why this parade has Canadian veterans partaking in it. Other parades are held at the same time throughout the country.
What a beautiful sight to see. It's now Remembrance Day, 2011, but the gratitude and thoughtful gestures by the Dutch people continue, and warms the hearts of many, many Canadians. Thank you from Canada!
@WhenToWatch@WhenToWatch You are most welcome. Each year we have some veterans come over from Canada but alas their numbers are getting smaller and smaller. Still, none of them will be forgotten.
@convictor11 might be 11 months late for this reaction. But people believes hitlers body got burned into a pile of other dead bodies after googling about it. he is not buried. After all i dont think people would bury that monster.
unbelievable...I can't believe they are still this thankful. The people in the crowds weren't even old. Even young people were trying to shake our veterans hands...I really wish I could show this to my grandfather. He'd be so touched. Thank you to whom ever made this video...
I'm glad you liked the video so much. I don't think the memory of Hollands liberation will be easily forgotten. The Dutch suffered so muchduring the war and they were so happy to be liberated that this gratitude is passed on through the generations.
Everytime the Canadian veterans come to my town Apeldoorn the people stand along the road waving and giving them flower, last month there where more people then other years because its probally the last time that the veterans come many are to old to travel, i'll always respect them greatest people ever alive in my opinion.
First time for me to see this. Many of my relatives (Canadian) fought in the Nederlands/Holland and other areas near there. I had heard of the Dutch citizens extoling their virtures upon Canada. I always thought it to be: from that era. But, I am wrong. I know I have fallen relatives in Arnhem and other areas of the Nederlands/Holland and south of there in Belgium. Thought most Europeans would be simply: done with it all.
Well, the Germans really terrorised the Dutch population and they were sooooo grateful to be liberated that this gratitude is still given on to the next generations. We will never forget how much the allied forces and especially the Canadians, payed in young lives so that we may live in freedom and peace. The Canadian forces liberated the north where I live.
My father told few stories about the Liberation. But his favorites were about 2 bridges he helped build. Dagwood and Blondie. Dagwood pointed forward, naturally, and Blondie went south. And then the winter came. Starving children.
War is about misery delayed, not honor discovered. Lest we forget.
It is very touching to see the people from Holland shake hand with Canadian Veteran, do they celebrate this event every year? Really want to go there to see next year.
Also go to the town of Arras, Menin Gate, where the fire department shuts down the street and plays "Last Post", every night, for the almost forgotten.
The 1st Canadian soldier to die in WW1, was killed less than one mile, from the last.
Not always this big but yes every year. Next year will be good coz it's the 65th anniversary of the liberation. It will be as big as the one in this video.
Dutch people are wonderful and very grateful 66 years on. The Dutch should remember not forget their own heroes of the Resistance movements though. Without them the Allies would have had a much, much harder time.
I love Holland. I was there during the Amsterdam liberation day ceremonies in 2005 when I was with Army Cadets.
and yes iam dutch and the dutch people are very proud and thankful to the people that liberate our country from the nazi facsists
city i live in in the south maastricht was liberated by americans troops and last vetaransday i saw about 30 motorcicles of ww2 driving around was pretty cool theres a vid about the lib of maastricht onyutube first u freed us and now were fighting side by side against terrorism in afganistan and iraq awesom vid and a big Thank You to the veterans!
Good observation! To be honest the re-enactors are not really re-enactors but just vehicle owners and they just wore WW2 outfits. Not necessarily Canadian outfits. Some of them take their uniforms seriously and others just wear something in army green.
Thank you for making this video. A very welcome HI!!! from British Columbia Canada. Had relatives that fought in the war. Don't think any of them fought in the Netherlands but I am absolutely confident given the choice they would have been right behind the brave men and women who helped liberate such a beautiful country. What a parade.....the brave fallen soldiers would be extremely happy with how your country remembers them.
Thank you for posting that outstanding video. The Dutch have more pride and respect for our military than our own government and most of our citizens.

Well done...you dutch show tremendous class, and as a Canadian I will never forget your appreciation and friendliness towards all of us, young and old, that make the journey to visit your country. Dutch hospitality is well known in our country and I do my part as ambassador to my country whenever your fellow countrymen visit here. Sometimes it takes a terrible moment in the past to bring people together in the future. Bravo...
Wow...I am surprised you have such a parade and I love this video. Thank you so much for not only opening my EYES as to what goes on over there in NL/Holland which I didn't know you guys remember us(American/Canadians). I would love to come visit Holland NOW more so. It is such a lovely city. When do the parades take place and is it every year?
Thank you for your lovely comment. The parades are usually held on may 5th which is our national liberation day. But they are not this big every year. This one was special because it was the 60th liberation day. So the next big one would be in 2010 when it's the 65th aniversary. But hey, you're welcome to come any time :)
And don't worry, you americans and canadians (and other allies) will not be forgotten in The Netherlands. Not ever!!
Thank you very much for this video. My father was a 13 year old in Leeds (just outside of Grongingen) when the Netherlands were liberated and could never let the Canadian flag pass by in procession without tearing up. He became an American citizen before he died and was the same with his American patriotism.
I'm glad you liked the documentary. Her brother was actually in the Canadian army and was the one who liberated her with his troup. It was an amazing moment for them both, as they hadn't seen each other in many, many years. The entire camp witnessed their reunion. Your video was great.
Thank you for posting this video. My father was a Canadian Soldier and N.C.O. in the first Bat. Black Watch (R.H.R.)(Camerons). One day I intend to follow the path they traveled from Juno Beach in Normandy to Oldenburg Germany. I am very proud of Canada's role in WW2 and the fact that those soldiers liberated not only Belgium, & Holland, but also kept Canada free of tyrany. Thanks again.
