  • wow this was in Groningen and they celebrated the liberation of (North-)Holland?

Why weren't they celebrating the liberation of Groningen, (North of the Netherlands not north of Holland)?

  • @C32347K17732 5th of may is our national liberation day so we celebrated the liberation of the whole of the Netherlands :)

  • @EdEditz I know, but the maker of the video says something else.

  • @C32347K17732 LOL, sorry I should have said. I am the maker of this video. This is my old channel. What I meant to say in the discription is that the north (of which Groningen is a part) was liberated by Canadians. That's why this parade has Canadian veterans partaking in it. Other parades are held at the same time throughout the country.

  • @EdEditz yes I know, I live in Groningen.

But Groningen is not part of Holland.

Saying Groningen is part of Holland is blasphemy! :P

  • @C32347K17732 Oh haha, see what you mean. Okay, north of the netherlands it is.

  • @EdEditz description says Holland...

sorry ik zit hier altijd over te zeiken -_-

  • @C32347K17732 Geen probleem ;-)

  • What a beautiful sight to see. It's now Remembrance Day, 2011, but the gratitude and thoughtful gestures by the Dutch people continue, and warms the hearts of many, many Canadians. Thank you from Canada!

  • yes he was in this parade

  • my dad was in holland in the war he was at the 60th anniversary

  • @Buzzrock58 Was he in this parade?

  • Thank you for sharing! From a Canadian girl.

  • My great uncle was in this. He said he got scared all over again seeing certain buildings.

  • Amazing video thank you :)

  • mijn over groot opa was duits leger transport

  • hitlers turning over in his grave....

  • @convictor11 might be 11 months late for this reaction. But people believes hitlers body got burned into a pile of other dead bodies after googling about it. he is not buried. After all i dont think people would bury that monster.

  • my grandfather fought in indonesia with the ''K.N.I.L.'' he said he had done things he will never forgive himself for

  • @MrErickArend War does things to people they would normally never think of. He shouldn't be to hard on himself.

  • @EddyBergman he's a long time dead since 1993 and i was born in 1995:P

  • @MrErickArend Ah I see. Sorry.

  • :P wrm praten we engels?

  • @MrErickArend Haha, goeie vraag. Hey jij bent begonnen dus ik geef jou de schuld ^__^

  • @EddyBergman tja jouw naam is overduidelijk nederlands dus.:P

  • unbelievable...I can't believe they are still this thankful. The people in the crowds weren't even old. Even young people were trying to shake our veterans hands...I really wish I could show this to my grandfather. He'd be so touched. Thank you to whom ever made this video...

  • @illgieyeaskelpitlug That would be me :)

I'm glad you liked the video so much. I don't think the memory of Hollands liberation will be easily forgotten. The Dutch suffered so muchduring the war and they were so happy to be liberated that this gratitude is passed on through the generations.

  • Everytime the Canadian veterans come to my town Apeldoorn the people stand along the road waving and giving them flower, last month there where more people then other years because its probally the last time that the veterans come many are to old to travel, i'll always respect them greatest people ever alive in my opinion.

  • Very nice film...I like all the vehicles, but especially the Harley-Davidson, really cool.

  • holland will never forget

  • the dutch look like very nice people!

  • @raedenjay Oh we are (most of us anyway :p) Come visit sometime and find out for yourself. ^^

  • @EddyBergman Maybe I will! I'll be in Europe from september to June! Greets!

  • @raedenjay From september 'till june. That's almost a year!!! You really should visit. Checkout Amsterdam and such. You won't regret it.

  • @EddyBergman ok see you there haha

  • @raedenjay I'll put some beers cold ^____^

  • @EddyBergman mm I can taste it already!!

  • This is GREAT ! At least the Dutch population remembers what Canada have done unlike many other countries.

Canada and Netherlands = Friends for ever.

  • First time for me to see this. Many of my relatives (Canadian) fought in the Nederlands/Holland and other areas near there. I had heard of the Dutch citizens extoling their virtures upon Canada. I always thought it to be: from that era. But, I am wrong. I know I have fallen relatives in Arnhem and other areas of the Nederlands/Holland and south of there in Belgium. Thought most Europeans would be simply: done with it all.

I am humbled by their gratitude!

  • Well, the Germans really terrorised the Dutch population and they were sooooo grateful to be liberated that this gratitude is still given on to the next generations. We will never forget how much the allied forces and especially the Canadians, payed in young lives so that we may live in freedom and peace. The Canadian forces liberated the north where I live.

I am humbled by their sacrifice!

    (raffy2006)

  • My father told few stories about the Liberation. But his favorites were about 2 bridges he helped build. Dagwood and Blondie. Dagwood pointed forward, naturally, and Blondie went south. And then the winter came. Starving children.

War is about misery delayed, not honor discovered. Lest we forget.

  • Canada and Holland will always be side by side.

  • Zeker! Voor altijd!

  • It is very touching to see the people from Holland shake hand with Canadian Veteran, do they celebrate this event every year? Really want to go there to see next year.

  • Also go to the town of Arras, Menin Gate, where the fire department shuts down the street and plays "Last Post", every night, for the almost forgotten.

The 1st Canadian soldier to die in WW1, was killed less than one mile, from the last.

  • Not always this big but yes every year. Next year will be good coz it's the 65th anniversary of the liberation. It will be as big as the one in this video.

    Regards, Eddy (Raffy2006)

  • Dutch people are wonderful and very grateful 66 years on. The Dutch should remember not forget their own heroes of the Resistance movements though. Without them the Allies would have had a much, much harder time.

I love Holland. I was there during the Amsterdam liberation day ceremonies in 2005 when I was with Army Cadets.

  • very nice video!

and yes iam dutch and the dutch people are very proud and thankful to the people that liberate our country from the nazi facsists

city i live in in the south maastricht was liberated by americans troops and last vetaransday i saw about 30 motorcicles of ww2 driving around was pretty cool theres a vid about the lib of maastricht onyutube first u freed us and now were fighting side by side against terrorism in afganistan and iraq awesom vid and a big Thank You to the veterans!

  • I like the Red Ensign flag, the one Canada had during the war years. Always liked that flag.

  • Yeah, my brother has one of those on his jeep now. He turned it into a Canadian jeep.

  • what an amazing reaction from people that after 64 years are still grateful for the victorious fight of those brave old men.

Congratulations to such a wonderful people. "Thank you" to every men that fought opression in that war.

  • This would be neat to see in person. Also lots of pretty girls in the crowd too :)

  • I know, I live there :P

  • how come like the reenactors r in us kit but Canadians had british stuff so should you not be in canadian brit stuff?

  • Good observation! To be honest the re-enactors are not really re-enactors but just vehicle owners and they just wore WW2 outfits. Not necessarily Canadian outfits. Some of them take their uniforms seriously and others just wear something in army green.

  • Thank you for making this video. A very welcome HI!!! from British Columbia Canada. Had relatives that fought in the war. Don't think any of them fought in the Netherlands but I am absolutely confident given the choice they would have been right behind the brave men and women who helped liberate such a beautiful country. What a parade.....the brave fallen soldiers would be extremely happy with how your country remembers them.

  • Thank you for posting that outstanding video. The Dutch have more pride and respect for our military than our own government and most of our citizens.

  • Thank you! We never forget what your country did for us. However long ago it way be.

  • oo kan wel

  • ik ben daar ook geweest mocht meerijden met die man toen het filmpje beginde en die man stond op zoon ding met die man mocht ik meerijden superrr mooi filmpje

  • Oh je bent met Dick meegereden?

  • Bedankt. Ik zag dat je je geabbonneerd hebt maar op mijn oude kanaal Raffy2006. Er staat nog wat meer op mijn nieuwe kanaal 'EddyBergman'. Op het oude kanaal wordt niets meer geupload.

  • Keep Them Rolling gays...

    p.s. ik ben ook Nedelands

  • Well done...you dutch show tremendous class, and as a Canadian I will never forget your appreciation and friendliness towards all of us, young and old, that make the journey to visit your country. Dutch hospitality is well known in our country and I do my part as ambassador to my country whenever your fellow countrymen visit here. Sometimes it takes a terrible moment in the past to bring people together in the future. Bravo...

  • I believe Rotterdam is even worse with more than 60% being foreighners. I share your concern for where this is heading.

  • You can hear the church bells if you listen carefully.

  • My grandfathers and great uncles will be thankful for this.

    Thankyou.

  • at 4:56...excellent.

  • That was nice wasn't it. :)

  • B.t.w.:

great to see your brother's Harley Liberator!!!

    My grandpa had one.

He bought it just after the war; it had all the original features; the bags and the gun case and everything.

  • My brother is overhauling the motor now. It's just a bare frame and he's rebuilding it to it's original state.

    (EddyBergman aka Raffy2006)

  • Eventhough I'm Dutch and living in Holland, I'll post my reply in English as most viewers speak English.

Great video!!! Thank's for posting it!!!

We'll never forget all those brave young men and women who left their countries, homes and families. They fought and gave their lives for our freedom.

"They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old.

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning

    We will remember them"

  • Very well said my Dutch friend.

  • Wow...I am surprised you have such a parade and I love this video. Thank you so much for not only opening my EYES as to what goes on over there in NL/Holland which I didn't know you guys remember us(American/Canadians). I would love to come visit Holland NOW more so. It is such a lovely city. When do the parades take place and is it every year?

  • Thank you for your lovely comment. The parades are usually held on may 5th which is our national liberation day. But they are not this big every year. This one was special because it was the 60th liberation day. So the next big one would be in 2010 when it's the 65th aniversary. But hey, you're welcome to come any time :)

And don't worry, you americans and canadians (and other allies) will not be forgotten in The Netherlands. Not ever!!

    Eddy (Raffy2006)

  • I enjoyed watching this video.....thanks.

  • Thank you very much for this video. My father was a 13 year old in Leeds (just outside of Grongingen) when the Netherlands were liberated and could never let the Canadian flag pass by in procession without tearing up. He became an American citizen before he died and was the same with his American patriotism.

  • I love you guys. The Netherlands and Canada will always be friends no matter what. Greetz from Canada my Dutch brothers :-)

  • Thank you very much for your kind words. Greetings to you too and merry xmas!

  • @iLikeTurtles5 thank u so much mate and my deepest feelings for those who fell for the freedom of the world R.I.P fellows god bless u all

  • It's the reason for the Tulip festival in Ottawa. They give thousands of Tulips for us to plant and we get great concerts.

  • dutch-democratic-republic punt com

  • My mother is the "Westerbork Girl" She always talks about how the Canadians liberated her! So another grateful person.

  • I saw the documentary and liked it very much. Your mother is a great person. You must be very proud of her. Thanks for your comment.

  • I'm glad you liked the documentary. Her brother was actually in the Canadian army and was the one who liberated her with his troup. It was an amazing moment for them both, as they hadn't seen each other in many, many years. The entire camp witnessed their reunion. Your video was great.

  • Thank you for posting this video. My father was a Canadian Soldier and N.C.O. in the first Bat. Black Watch (R.H.R.)(Camerons). One day I intend to follow the path they traveled from Juno Beach in Normandy to Oldenburg Germany. I am very proud of Canada's role in WW2 and the fact that those soldiers liberated not only Belgium, & Holland, but also kept Canada free of tyrany. Thanks again.

  • Thank you for your lovely comment. Check out my 'Raffy2006' channel for some more vids I made in normandy. I have a new channel with some more video

of world war two vehicles. Click on my name.

  • Thank you for uploading this video. Great reminder of the scrafices made by ally troops in WWII. The Dutch people are terrific! They will never forget.

  • No greater nation than CANADA.

  • Fantastic, brought tears to my eyes to see the families, the children, the whole community aware of their past and grateful for their deliverance.

Well done (and a cool Jeep too!!)

  • very proud

  • my opa was part of the dutch resistence and later fought in indonesia

  • I wish I could have seen the parade in person. Your video was the next best thing.

  • Thanks. You would have had to cross the big pond though. :-) If you come over on good friday next, you'll see something even better. Or you can wait for the video which will be posted here. (It's an airshow all about WW-2)

  • this is a wonderful video

    bringing tears to my eyes
