  • A beautiful song sung by the best popular singer ever R.I.P. JO

  • This is a great example of perfect singing, backed by wonderful orchestration--a real masterpiece. Thanks so much for posting.

  • beautiful singing and orchestration.

  • a lovely melody for a lovely voice, we can clearly hear every word. She sang with Gordon Macrae wonder if I can find 'Tumblin Tumbleweeds?. Remember the the old LP's playing in the evenings when twilight fell and stars came out on warm tropical nighst so long ago now. TRULY MAGICAL. Folk could really sing then and not shout as they seem to do today. I never listen to the radio anymore .So thanks to all of you and Youtube for bringing back such memories for those of us of vintage years!

  • She was GREAT! She told the cute story about when boy singer Frankie first joined the Dorsey band in 1940. The singers took a coffee break while he warmed up with the band...she said (paraphrasing here), "Suddenly we all paused to listen to him-- we KNEW he was going to be special."

  • Thank you! (globalman) well said!!, I am 81!, I am so 'proud' to have been apart of that great era!, The talent of that era, made up for what the 'children of the depression (myself) missed.

  • This is beautiful indeed but go listen to No Other Love....... tears..... her purity and emotion .......... my mother was of this generation and I can tell you.... they didn't have computers, mobile phones etc.... but the young people were happy and they were mostly virgins....I am not a moralist and believe in nothing but the universe and music. Something is wrong today.....more people have more of everything than ever in history....misery, violence but no beauty like this Lady.

  • Just an incredible talent. I miss Jo Stafford so much.

  • Amazing voice control and like finest silk.

  • my God, what a beautiful voice singing a beautiful song!

  • Jo Stafford, Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday. no1 can beat that team!!!!

  • This is so beuitful, it takes me back and makes me cry.

  • Wow we need more music like this! I love it thanks for sharing :)

  • Only Patsy Cline compares.

  • I started listening to her when I found out she was born in my hometown of 19 years that I moved out of 10 months ago, loved her ever since.

  • ME QUEDO CON ESTA VERSION TAMBIEN........LENTA PERO LLENA DE TODO.......IGUAL QUE LA DE BROOK BENTON...RAPIDA PERO LLENA DE TODO.........MAGNIFICAS VERSIONES MABAS.....AUNQUE DIFERENTES...IGUAL DE ENCANTADORAS......Y SI....SI....LA DECADA DE LOS 40 Y 50........UNA MARAVILLA.........EN TODOS LOS SENTIDOS...ARTISTICAMENTE HABLANDO......TAMPOCO VOY A ENTRAR EN SITUACIONES DE OTRO CALIBRE....

  • Thank you so much. Jo blows me away in this one. She can siiiiiiinnnnnng! In appreciation...

  • All these comments are exactly what I keep saying. If only singers of today could listen and emulate these singers. If they would come forth singing without screaming and at least sing the notes as written.

  • THE BEST........

  • Oh God, those songs from '40s, '50s, '60s, '70s and '80s are THE BEST ♥.

    Music from 2000s sucks.

  • Jo Stafford is the great aunt of Laurie Deane, who has a voice just like her Aunt Jo. If you ever get a chance to hear Laurie Deane in person, don't miss it!!! There are videos on YouTube of Laurie, but none of them have the sound quality that does her voice justice. Laurie is amazing, voice of an angel, her Aunt Jo.

  • GREAT STUFF !!

  • wonderful... The 40s and 50s were great decades for music ...

  • WOW! This is lovely!

  • thank you !!!

  • Hearing all these lovely songs take me back to my childood, when my mother would play them on our Westminster radiogramme! It would be great if we could go back in time and live these times...if only for awhile.

    Thanks for the memories.

  • Superb!.

  • You don't jump up and start screaming and call your self a singer.Ladies like jo put a life time of learning how to make beautiful sounds.SIing it again miss Stafford.

  • Exquisite! Ballad singer par excellence.

  • She was great

  • A pure singer with a most beautiful voice.

  • Beautiful and pure, her voice was truly an instrument.

  • Beautiful song.........lovely voice. Thanks for sharing.

  • Wow, I've never heard of this singer before.

Such a revelation for me. Wonderful!

  • Totally agree. It is pure singing, with no affectation (often connected with the era), clear diciton, pure, sonor voice, and full of emotions.

  • @mmilovan Everything you say is exactly right. Also, her breath control is a marvel. She may have one of the most recognizable voices ever.

  • @mmilovan It is commonly called a trained voice. We don't have any pop singers with trained voices anymore. Opera and Broadway are probably the only places you'll find truly trained voices. Pop music nowadays is all about overproduction and laying in twelve tracks.

  • @magistral707 Correction: 20 tracks LoL Don't forget the "Auto tune". I'm like you, the best singers was from way long time ago. Just a great vocal in front of a real orchestra.

  • @mmilovan Why do you write: "with no affectation"? (I can't agree with that, but I am curious why do you think so.)

  • Why are today's girl singers not listen to this singer before they open their mouth?

It took me decades of listening to her and other lady singers, before I dared to sing. They were the greatest teachers.

THIS is soulful singing in the purest way.

Thanks for these recordings and postings.

  • It is probably recorded with Paul Weston, her husband. There are no evidence about the recording date, but I can gues it is mid 1940s to begin 1950s.

  • What year was this recorded, and with whom?

  • For us, creatures of the XX century, this music touch a deep rooted fiber. Marvelous! Thank you!!

  • nice, nice, nice,

  • True. Stafford was so versatile and had a such a pure and pleasant voice that everything she sang had that inimitable touch of hers, and evoked a feeling of tranquility and peace.

  • nice. thought it was deanna durbin (visually). sweet nevertheless. :)

  • A superb arrangement and marvellous singing, as always, by Ms Stafford. Thank you for posting.

  • One hears this and is reminded of a gentle, slower paced world. There are no voices today that evoke the same feelings or tranquility in me that this woman or many of her generation can. Thank you.
