• so glorious

  • who is the guy with big balls????

  • I cried when I first saw this. I've never witnessed something so beautiful in my entire life.

  • That dress seems like it would get in the way of the legs. But the dance is beautiful. An exquisite pas de deux!

  • Romeo, Romeo- no offense- My dear Romeo... but could you please put on some pants.... (I love ballet and especially Romeo/ Juliet but honestly, if you can see their crack through their tights then something must be done)

  • Is the pas de deux ushaully done to convay romance? or can it be playtonic? like Siblings?

  • @DontBeAZombie I find that it is usually used to convey a relationship which is usually romantic, but there are certainly pas de deux that arn't about romance

  • @rocknroll4ever6 Thanks for the explanation :) I was just wondering because the Pas de deux in Cats musical looked extremely romantic to me, but others say it was one night stand, or that the two were siblings. so I wanted to learn a bit more about the dance XD

  • I'm not usually a ballet fan but this was so amazing...

  • First ballet I ever saw, at Covent Garden about twenty years ago. I remember looking at the program and seeing that the performance would take about 3 hours. I thought, "Oh, man, this could be lethal." Well, fastest three hours of my life. Prokofiev, the sumptious sets, and, above all, the dancing (Vivian Durante as Juliet). A memorable night. Oh... and isn't it amazing that 14 people could actually dislike this video? Well, to each his/her own, I guess.

  • i love her and her dancing!!! also love Romeo and Juliet..

  • Which ballet company is this?

  • when is this going to reach 1 million views? people need to appreciate classical ballet more

  • Eu acho isso lindo!

Para o Pedro Bial, "coisa de viado"!

Lembram dessa patacoada dele?? Sacanagem, né?

  • wow

    just... wow

  • beautiful... but her pointe shoes look kinda dead

  • @balletandalpacas - she destroys the shank to show off those phenomenal feet.

  • i want her feet.....

  • dançar deveria ser um dos 10 mandamentos:DANÇARÁS

  • I'm so sorry for my ignorance, but ballet performances are not my league. Generally I simply listen to them and there're some very amazing ones... now, i want to know who they are? i liked it... Perfection by Prokofiev!!!

  • her feet are amazing! The lifts...effortless. Perfection.

  • oh...pure beauty.....love it!

  • I love this ballet, but WHY didnt they gave him another costume... it really annoys me: looks like he's not wearing anything besides his shirt.

  • RIGHT BEFORE THE BALCONY CLIMB?!!! Are you KIDDING ME?!!! The dude does a straight-up pull up to reach her at the end and it's AMAZING and it was cut off!!!!!

But yes, the rest of it was beautiful.

  • i love the music! it is so calming yet entergetic

  • Sounds like a live orchestra?

  • @bandxgeek It is a live orchestra. Profesional ballet shows are always done with one. And, this is American Ballet Theatre no less, soooo :)

  • nice ass ;]

  • Soooo beautiful!

  • this was lovely.

i cried, i laugh (imagining myself in a situation i could be juliette), i felt goosebumps.

it was so beautiful, especially the last part when they kiss, ferri's face-that expression- was so natural and so beautiful, it was a expression i had never seen in a ballerina before.

shes so beautiful as juliette and bocca is amazing as romeo, totally handsome.

    wow...im speakless

this video is the reason why i love ballet.

  • I just cried.

  • hooooooooo my good!!!!!!!!!!

  • i can't stop watching this

  • what beautiful lines! very passionate

  • Bellissimo...veramente. Ferri e Bocca sono incredibili insieme.

  • Anyone who does not appreciate ballet should watch this video. Guaranteed to amaze.

  • This is so loving! I love her costume.

  • Romeo might be in trouble if juliet had a heavy lunch

  • wow.

  • Also, just in general, I prefer Ferri's performance with Wayne Eagling, if only because I prefer Eagling himself, and because the timing of the choreo has been changed (too much, in my opinion) over the years.

Again, hoping I don't offend anyone. I do that sometimes, if only by accident. :\

  • eagling has floppy feet in his en dedans pirs but i must agree i prefer him with ferri as well...

and don't apologize. i for one can't understand how people can be offended when someone expresses an opinion, this matter is highly subjective. people are so touchy nowadays. we should all listen to others and then form our own opinion and as long noone says "my opinion is better" we could all be friends :))

  • Absolutely Breathtaking! Almost inhuman grace in those 2!

  • Simply wonderful...

  • love them!

  • those pants leave very little to the imagination. lol. But so pretty! Both dancers are indredible!!!!!! Woah!

  • beautiful

  • That was one of the most romantic kisses i've seen. absolutley beautiful

  • It is my favourite Balcony par de deux...

  • What a passionate kiss in the end. Really caught me. Tearing!

  • there body language tells any story better than words

  • she seems over her toe

but fuck is she a beautiful dancer :D

    wow

  • that was life changing

  • Che meraviglia...

  • she is now nearly 40, perfect. but the romeo is not so cool. in another performance, this juliet is dance with another romeo whose smile perfectly expressed his character which is conbined with a aristocratic wastrel and a lover with impulse.

  • you really think this Romeo is not that good? Bocca and Ferri are known as THE legend partners. Both incredibly amazing, especially in this ballet. I love Alessandra the most though, i think she is definitely the best, this role was made for her, but Julio Bocca is amazing too, I think he gets better when he dances with her, they've got chemistry. But it's ok, people have different tastes. Remember what Romeo you are talking about? I can only think of Angel Corella and Wayne Eaglin.

  • PPPerez -

You must be very young! Although your knowledge of this ballet is impressive, it is modern and incomplete! The roles of R&J were originally choreographed for Margot Fontain and Rudolf Nureyev -- The only truly "legendary" partnership in ballet to date!! The dancers in this clip are wonderful...but Seriously! You can't possibly give a pair "legendary" status until they have contributed as much to the ballet world as Nureyev-Fontain did! ... This is my FAVORITE ballet

  • Andylyn619: Actually although Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev danced the opening night performance, the ballet was NOT created for them. Kenneth Macmillan choreographed it on Lynn Seymour and Christopher Gable. The opening night was given to Fonteyn and Nureyev for political purposes. While they were famous for it, Macmillan was not pleased with their interpretations of the roles, as the ballet did not appear as he had intended it should, and they changed much of the choreo to suit themselves.

  • Andylyn619: Furthermore, while pperez's knowledge of ballet is incomplete, yours needs a bit of updating (no offense intended). While they may not have achieved the stardom of their predecessors, that does not mean that Alessandra Ferri and Julio Bocca are not "a legendary partnership."

Also, on another note, while Macmillan did not coach Fonteyn through this role, he DID coach Ferri. Ferri's interpretation is, presumably, closer to what the choreographer intended.

  • Julio is by far the best Romeo, just soft and still so Manly. Just Amazing!

  • 5:53 is so picture perfect..this is so truly magnificent

  • i agree.

    how beaufiful.

  • 5:44

  • Beautiful........

  • perfeitos!!!!!

  • Kenneth Macmillan was a genius.

  • is this the romeo and juliet ballet tchikovsky version or the prokofiev version? im not sure. but this is soo beautiful!

  • Comment removed

  • It's the Prokofiev - and yes heartrendingly beautiful

  • Oh my God....no words...amazing!!!!

  • This is the most gorgeous version of the pas de deux i've seen. they act much more too. it's great, thanks for putting it up.

  • she has beautiful feet!

  • The human body is something extraordinary in lots of senses, something gorgeous and artistic. Both, male and female, they're beautiful.

Ballet dancers look as heavy as feathers. This pas de deux is VERY well done, passionate and sweet at the same time.

Thank you very much for uploading this video, yadrianne. I really had a nice time watching it =)

  • I prefer John Crankos version much much more, watch it here on YouTube with Marcia Haydee and Richard Cragun!

  • so beautiful

  • goodness look at her feet! they're fantastic!

  • Gosh i miss her

  • Absolutely breathtaking!. Prokofiev's score & Macmillam's choreography are magnificent. Alessandra Ferri seems born to play Juliet & handsome Julio Bocca acquits himself very well. When danced as well as this, there is no more exciting pas de deux in the entire ballet repertoire.

  • Wow! She has gorgeous feet! I am jealous!

  • Reminds me of when I was young and madly in love. Enchanting...

  • I think she could be a bit more soft in the beggining, she was a little too mechanical for me..it was perfect in the end..

but he was perfect the whole time!!

  • Alessandra Ferri is not only a dancer, but also an actress! Every emotion felt so real... I was engrossed in every moment! Exquisite!

  • Thanks for uploading! They're just lovely

  • i love them! this is so romantic! i hpoe some day i can do it:D

  • bocca is one of the few male ballet dancers i've seen who is able to exude strength without losing his grace

  • yes, it's alessandra ferri and i believe he is julio bocca.

    yes, i'm pretty certain.

  • what are the names of these amazing dancers? Is the ballerina Alessandra Ferri?

  • he is julio Bocca from Argentina..google it.he has an amazing carreer

  • magnificent... just beautiful!

  • I'd DIE to c a boy fancy me like that....

    and kiss me^^

    ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

  • She's perfect. I wish I could have seen it in person before she retired.

  • My last name is romeo awsome

  • she's absolutely perfect for Juliet. When she dances this role she actually IS juliet, which is one of the hardest characters to get into because in the story she is only a teenager. shes superb.

  • wow.. so beautiful..

  • ah shes beautiful! her feet are amazing!!!

  • "Oh Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou, Romeo?" but in ballet version.;)

  • this is my favorite pair to do r+j :)

ferri and bocca are absolute perfection

  • I love this pas de deux, always have. It's probably my favorite both on stage and in the audience. Their Chemistry is perfect.

  • exquisite

  • Her feet are incredible, as are all the lifts. So much passion and chemistry between them. Perfect.

  • Exquisite!

This piece has been my absolute favorite for over 30 years. Nothing else I've heard or played has rivalled it. I couldn't imagine it being improved until I saw this. Thank you for the post!!

  • she's perfect!

  • My God, her feet are insane...and so is the rest of her...stunning

  • those feet gotta hurt now...

  • Julio Bocca was incredible. His variation in this clip is flawless.

  • She' s Alessandra Ferri. one of the best eoile of the last years!! ^_^

  • the dancing is amazing but i dont really know about the acting

  • oh, i love this

  • Its the American Ballet Theater

  • This is The Royal Ballet in Londan.

  • No it's American Ballet Theatre. The clip with Wayne Eagling is from the Royal in 1985.

  • she looks like air and he moves with such graceful force. both of them, stunning.

  • what company is this

  • ABT.

  • impresionante!!!!

    absulutamente hermosooo, conmovedorrrr

  • they are beautiful dancers but the acting...

  • They have to be overly dramatic to get there point across:)

  • absolutely beautiful! perfect in everything!

  • alessandra ferri makes me happy...

  • man i always wanted to do ballet.

  • oh my god, this was perfect in every single way!!! technique, interpretation, choreography, alessandra ferri.. and I love prokofyev's music <3

  • I grew up watching Ferri and have seen dozens and dozens of other 'Juliet's.' Ferri remains, to this day, the gold standard for me.

  • The male dancer is Julio Bocca. He retired a bit before Alessandra did.

  • Who is the male dancer?

  • Who is the male dancer?

  • OMG THIS IS JUST AMAZING I AM SO IN LOVE...her feet and aw her just stunning and he was very amazing all so...i like

  • help!

    her arch!

  • i danced in r & j with tamara rojo and roberto bolle as the leads at the royal albert hall. they were great as they were only young themselves. great music, the best ballet to watch imo.

  • In Holland, the audience claps whenever the stage goes dark and the music stops. Also, at the start of every Act, the orchestra gets an applause. And of course at the ending :p

  • wow. they're both simply amazing. gorgeous

  • if i were fabrizio i wouldn't be able to take this.

  • agreed...

  • beautiful... shes perfect

  • stunning...this ballet seriously brings tears to my eyes.

  • what kind of idiots clap in the middle of a piece at a ballet?

  • Actually, if I'm not mistaken, traditionally the audience claps when the principal dancer takes the stage. I try to catch a ballet whenever I can and the tradition seems to be dying out - in America at least. I actually like it, especially the flowers thrown at the finale.

  • Well, that's interesting. You would never expect that to happen it in the middle of an orchestra performance, but I suppose the visual nature of a ballet makes it more likely. Although it could be a cultural thing; I saw this ballet at the age of 11 with my school, and to my memory the audience only clapped when there was a suitable pause (I am from the UK).

  • It's not at all just an American tradition that when a star ballet dancer first enters, the audience claps. This is a worldwide tradition, especially in EAstern Europe. In South American and Cuba, audiences are extremely demonstrative throughout a performance. But it's certainly common when it's a true star like Ferri that the audience shows its respect by applauding upon her entrance.

  • julio bocca is also a true star.

  • I agree with kdub10009. I always watched ballet on PBS/KCET and there was always applause at the beginning when the principal dancers took the stage. However, out of personal experience (in the U.S.) It hasn't always happened.

Here, it does seem out of place since this scene is clearly not the beginning of the ballet. However, this was only a performance of the pas de deux and as others said, it's Ferri. Sigh...I wish I could've seen her live but she's retiring.

  • this is the most passionate beautiful amazing romantic pas de deux ever choreographed!

  • Alessandra Ferri

  • who is she?

  • WHAT!!!! you dont know who Aelx Ferri is. very famous ABT dancer but just retiered.

  • This is prob. the best pas ever choreographed. The use of simplistic choreography and the amazing costume design, makes this one of the best versions I have ever seen. Flawless.

  • Fabuloso!

  • absolutely amazing

    fucking gorgeous feet

    so much strength and flexibility

    <33

  • Absolutely breathtaking!

  • this pas is nothing less than beautiful! i love it!

  • With Ms. Ferri retiring, films like this are an invaluable aid to reflect on her glorious skills. This is a beautiful partnership.

  • Beautiful

  • I think this is the best version.

    Breathless.

  • 1:50 Nerd Descending a Staircase. Breathtakingly Beautiful throughout. Gasp!

  • so beautiful I love that lift at 5:47.

  • we saw better dancing than this

by the ballet students at Siberia Novosibersk just watch their film

  • how pretty! ♥ i lov3 dance

  • how pretty...i wish i had a boyfriend who dances...i wish i had a boyfriend to begin with...haha ♥

  • o m g!!! so pure and beautiful <3

  • Let's see...Perfect Romeo...Perfect Juliet and...the Perfect Pas de deux. I hear she'll be giving her last Juliet performance since she's retiring - she will be missed.

  • That was just absolutely beautiful!

  • his turns are gorgeous

  • I think dancing is the most romantic way to say, "I love you".

  • *tear* That was beautiful. I hope one day I am as good as her.

  • as I sit here and cry...haha. I wish my boyfriend was a dancer so that we could do this pas de deux. Even though it's visibly very technically difficult.

  • this romeo needs pants on no one wonts to seee that!

  • haha, idk about you but i want to see that! damn! lol, kidding..
