I am not Navajo but I was raised in a Navajo culture and lived on the rez most my life, and have my experiences with skinwalkers, they scared the crap outta me and my family..and I do recall alot of people on the rez DID NOT like to even talk about skinwalkers, because they feared if they did, they would be bothered by them, so in other words, if you don't bother them they wont bother you.

My initial reaction was cautious disapproval; growing up on the rez, I was taught about the Manichean divisions that exist in our belief system. However, Navajo spirituality, its mechanics and components, is complicated. The part, however, that I strongly disagreed with was the trading post link embedded in the video and explanation. I would have preferred to have been directed to the artists' biographies. It is just a matter of context. Overall, I support the tremendous work our artists do.

I think its great that they are sharing our culture. We tend to be so afraid, its not really a taboo. We need to expose our culture. In actuality our culture is merely a mirror image of other tribe's religious practices. Look at our navajo clan system, there are no more real navajos. i recently read about the positive side of skinwalkers by doing a google search.a friend told me he was haunted by one at a young age.but i think he just compared nightmares to a native legend to be "cool".so i wrote a song called skinwalker after we split paths-some of the lyrics are what he told me- but the song has deeper meaning about our meeting and ending-he is the skinwalker who rescued my naive heart from the dark -only to cast me right back into it.

Well it is something most Navajos know, but the initiation is bad. It isn't something you should get into if your not prepared. There is a spiritual side in all walks of civilization.
