  • My far, one of the best Dead songs they ever did!

  • Thanks for the upload!LOVE IT!!!!!GOT ME DANCIN!!!!!

  • made me cry <3

  • prolly one of my favorite dead songs....then again its so difficult

  • this song is so emotionally powerful... reminds me of driving to school with my mother. doesnt sound like a very important memory but now that my mom is no longer in my life this song makes me cry every time.

  • This song gives me the ol tear drops and shivers!!!

  • Reminds me of my late Grandpa who drove log trucks in Ahoskie, NC. The smell of pine or liquor sends me back to those times as a child. Hearing this song is as close as I can get without the pine or the liquor. I've seen the GD 48 times and find it interesting how a group from northern california can so successfully capture the life of southern americana. I love them! T

  • @tdhayes1 - great post, thanks for sharing, :)

  • this music seriously saves my life everyday

  • beautiful , i was only a couple months old when this show went down . (really nice version) "thanks"

  • only song that makes me feel better on any day no matter what

  • first show in1988,was 18 at time. hit philly for furthur fest last month was cool time.hot as hell weather wise. so glad part of GD rockn!

  • a band beyond description for sure---SO many great versions of this song--this is one of the best....

  • early 70's last time it was hip to be in waterbury ct.......i was there!!!...palace theater... library park...one big blue cloud, baby!

  • @oreokookie1000 waterbury still pretty sweet my freind im still a young man i had a lot of good times in the area but to tell ya the truth would have rather been there with u

  • One of the best I've heard. Holy BOBBY! BOBBY IN THE ZONE. Look up "syncopation" in the dictionary and there's a picture of Bobby in cut-off jeans!

  • my god what a tune

  • i love you

  • My Dad is from Waterbury and he turned me on to the DEAD at a young age and ive never looked back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • My favorite Dead tune

  • really like the europe '72's version

  • Always puts that feelin back in my brain....and my heart....and my feet....

  • this is a totally sweet version

    God I miss Jerry

  • I miss Jerry..

  • audios not mint but im not complaing! great song along with a great show!.

  • the only reason i love 72 as mush as i do is because you can actually hear bobby

  • This is fantastic!!

  • when my mom calls me, this is what plays.....i love my mom

  • three people don't like red eye gin...

  • I like the brown eye of woman.

  • a day after my birthday! 23 years early though

  • awesome stuff sounds real good love this song

  • awesome stuff

  • Smile or cry?!?!

  • 2-15-73 is another GREAT Brown Eyed..... where you can really hear Krutzman really groovin..!! :)

  • I'm 15 years old...and this is amazing. I wish there were more artists now a days that are worth a crap! Thanks for this!

  • Those were THEE DAYS OF THE PALACE!!!!...dark smutty, blue clouds, crumbling plaster, gettin high in the parkin garage.....best thing waterbury had

  • i love the earlier versions of this song. It has a sadder, slower feel to it than the uptempo way they started playing it in '77.

  • Very nice :^)

  • I haven't heard this song since 1973. Amazing how it stays dormant in your brain for 37 years and yet.. I still remember every word. Thanks for the post.

  • @mikestrat56 what have you listened to for the last 40 years dude

  • @JimmyPage97 Since your channel lists your age as 22, Jimmy, I believe I've listened to quite a bit more than you.... dude. Thanks for the smarmy comment, kid.

  • @mikestrat56 Oh haha nah my comment wasn't a "smarmy" suggesting that a 22 year old person named Jimmy has heard more music then you in this life, I was wondering how you could hear this song in 1973 and not ever listen to it again for 37 years.

  • Wooohooooooooooooooooooooo...let's dance !!!

  • I like how Jerry sings, "..I cut hickory FOR to fire the still." Makes more sense and sounds more folksy than "JUST" that he used later.

  • Love this song!

  • this song is so fucking great

  • Cool video man, what program did you use to make it?

  • Bob Weir IMO is very underated... this take of Brown Eyed Women being a good example...

  • grew up in waterbury. too bad it was 20 years too late. my dad grew up there and experienced so many of the great concerts there.

  • I read in an interview with Jerry where he said: "A moment of inspiration is worth a lifetime of experience..."

    Well said.....

  • I didn't know the boys played the freakin' palace- used to live in Waterbury, they just rentavated the palace they should get them to come back- maybe bring Donna along for old time's sake??? NICE Thanks so much for paosting this, what a treat!- Grateful living!

  • great rendition........seems 72' was a great recording year for the Dead........Europe 72' still may be my all time favorite. Thanks for posting.

  • I wish i was alive to see these waterbury concerts. I live one town away. My dad and my uncle are huge dead heads and always went to the concerts at the palace theater.

  • Really nice version. Very clean. Phil's bass really comes through too. So pumped for further all week.

  • just saw furthur in colorado on march 5 and holy shit a hell of a tour right?

  • Oh hell yeah. Missed out on further for my 21st birthday though. Endied uo going to lots cause that's where the friends were going. Pumped for natevaand all good though. And maybe checking out further fest

  • @gibsongod123 it was fantastic. im definitely going to the spring tour

  • 14 years old from brooklyn this was some year

  • Two of the best shows of the era! Please, can tell me how I got home those two nights?

  • @toodeemo the train? metro north ends in Waterbury. I think there might still be a few people left wandering around the city from that show, though.

  • "play me a song, and make the lyrics real nice"

thank you jerry/robert, bob, phil, mickey, etc...bill, who else?...

  • Brent,Pig, Keith & Donna,Bruce ..probably a couple more in there

  • @dmellow45 Forgot the Pig for sure... integral part...

  • ya bobby is hittin it perfect in ths one... hes so overlooked, hes like no other rhythm guitar player... just sick as hell.. the whole band was rockin this night jerrys vocals are excellent.. wish phil was a little higher in the mix but oh well

  • jerrys fill ins and soloing are amazing, moreso on this song then most othersm, but still, amazing

  • Bobby's in there too! Doing a fine job also. AWESOME version.

  • @HotRockinJohnny does bobby play just through improvisation? I feel so often his parts are sort of scripted. Both vocally and on guitar.

  • @JimmyPage97 Bobby plays Rhythm guitar, so he generally plays the chords while Jerry plays lead. But on some songs Bobby plays lead licks (i.e. China Cat Sunflower), and often he messes around with the chords or plays licks in between. Very underrated member of the band imo

  • @UngratefulLiving420 I'm not trying to underplay his importance, I mean I love Bob. I just feel like he is very "scripted" if you know what I'm saying.

  • @JimmyPage97 Yeah I hear you, and agree 100%. Unlike Jerry, his parts are absolutely scripted. But all songs are scripted in a way, without someone playing the "scripted" chords or rhythm the song simply cannot go. But Bobby kind of changes the script as he goes, like strumming patterns and variations of the chords stuff like that

  • @UngratefulLiving420 thats why I loved the dead. A band is no different from a team, it takes ever single person to be this successful. They stuck together, and obviously it worked.

  • Love this version. Phil's bass is amazing!

  • always is

  • peace love dove maaaan!!!

  • the dead certainly the greatest. there are all kinds of greats. just loved the way jerry used melody to hold it all together. another great phish. they take it more from a tech side than melody.

  • "Real good version". You ain't kidding. The boys hittin' on all cylinders. Wow !

  • looooong live the dead

  • possibly the best version of this song i have heard

  • i like oak more than yoke, but as long as were both still smililin' . don't make me grab a bottle crackya crosse the jaw.onlycost twodollars

  • The Europe 72 is the classic version but this one has the same feel--love it. My favorite Dead song right now. "Gone are the days when the ox fall down/ Take up the yoke and plow the fields around."

  • There's a really good version from Hartford '77

  • I was born too late!!!

  • Psychedelic rock, classic 50´s rock´n´roll, jazz, blues, country, bluegrass, folk ballads, soul - that´s just some of the genres which the Dead touched on in their brilliant thirty-year career. - Greatest friggin´ band in the history of popular music. No competition.

  • I have to agree with you. Most would say that the Beatles were the greatest band, and although I love the Beatles, I have to say that because the Grateful Dead lasted longer, they hold the title!

  • I was at this show, a couple months after getting discharged from the Army. What a great memory. Thanks for posting.

  • this is amazing, it deserves to have millions of views.. sad world

  • yupp

  • one of my favorite songs ever

  • This is a fair version, but not nearly as supple and fluid as the one on ´Europe 72´, which I would go so far as to call the definite version of this lovely and charming song.

  • i love the dead so much, this is one of my fav. songs by them... i cant even pick a favorite

  • thank you this smokes

  • one of my favorite G.D. songs. Well, I say that about 100 songs though, but this one really is up there.

  • Perfection, thanks Johnny, listenin to jerry rock this in the morning lets me know it's guna be a good day... r.i.p.

  • oh my god this so good

  • Must be the best take of this song I've heard... can't think of a better one video OR audio.

  • Just saw Dark Star in NJ. They played this song and I had to listen to it again. This is a great recording.

  • Excellent version... good stuff.

  • Good version of my favorite Dead song, Thanks!

  • This is amazing, thank you sir.

  • Hey...I grew up in Middlebury...just a few miles away. I remember being up in the balcony for this show. I was 16 years old. WOW. Many Thanks.

  • Holy S***!

I was in balcony too! I was a senior in college down in New Haven, 21 at the time.

The balcony was rocking so much I had a moment of concern.

  • Is the palace theatre still around?

  • I don't know.

    Haven't been there since!

  • Thankyou for this! reminds me of the good ol' days when i used to go camping wih my dad when my parents were together..

    fond memories

    Thankyou anyway! =D

  • No problem...I'm glad you enjoyed it!
