  • Correction: Rogers charges $10 per GB when you go over.

Rogers buys bandwidth for 5 cents/GB at bulk rates.

Thats not just a ripoff, thats outright highway robbery.....

  • @jblackrupert How much is your average bill for your Rocket Hub?

The plan I'm on flexes a couple bucks if I go over my usage. You might have a newer plan that's more. I did get mine over a year ago and it's usually around 50 bucks a month.

like I said before it's for light internet use like email and surfing. NOT gaming, youtube, or torrents.

  • @nogrules

I'm not using Rocket Hub, I'm using Rogers Portable but just got a letter today saying they are shutting it down March 1st 2012 and offering people to switch to Hub with free hardware on a 2 year contract.

I called them and asked about deals other then the free Hub hardware

and they aren't giving anyone any deals other then that.

Even for light use, the prices they are charging are completely rediculous.

Rogers portable is overpriced but it's un-metered.

  • @jblackrupert good to know man. thanks for the info. I'll have to be extra careful on my data usage come the new year.

  • Complete rip off.

Just using Youtube a few hours a week would blow through your bandwidth cap

add on Windows updates, Virus updates, patches for software etc and you'll be looking at a $100+ a month bill.

Rogers pays 5 cents a gig for bandwidth and charges customers $2+.

  • Gaming is fine because it only uses data fir ur down loads which is rilly good

  • @GDTyler43

Gaming uses the upstream also. Playing FPS and games like WOW would easily blow through 10GBs in a month with normal usage around 5 hours per week.

It doesn't matter what you use it for, UP and Down traffic is used. Thats how the internet works. back and forth communication between servers is constant.

there is no such thing as a one-way only connection.

  • @jblackrupert agreed this is not for gaming just light internet usage and having a local landline that keeps the same phone # with you.

  • is it still fast or did it start to slow down....... mine has slowed to a crawl

  • @zoltron30

Do you have it plugged in all the time? If so try unplugging it for 30 seconds then re starting it. If that doesn't help I would call Rogers and have them reset your sim card.

The only speed difference I found is some locations I go to are slower than others.

It could be the area your in has a bad connection to the cell tower.

  • goddamnit

  • will i be able to get 4 bars on call of duty mw2 for xbox live

  • @Cheslock1599

I wouldn't recommend the Rocket Hub for online gaming because you pay for the data you use and for gaming online you use a ton of data. The hub is more geared towards just surfing the net, not gaming or torrents.

  • @nogrules

Even some light youtubing puts one well over 10GB with ease.

Both Rocket Hub and Turbo Hub are a rip off, period.

  • @a1mint

This solution isn't for everyone, but for the right person I can be excellent!

If you have access to cable or dsl then that is probably a better solution, unless you move a lot or would like to take the unit with you when you travel, say to the cottage.

10GB would give you approx 25 hours of low resolution streaming video and cost about $60

*This unit should really be used for very light surfing and e-mail not for youtube or gaming.*

the youtube video was for a speed test only.

  • @a1mint

I take one on business for emails and light surfing as the hotel I stay at doesn't have WiFi. and while I'm on my 3 hour ferry trip I can get on the net and keep in touch with business contacts. I haven't spent more than $50 in a month because with Rogers they have a flex plan that if you go over your data it just pushes you to the next plan to avoid paying out the nose. I don't think it's a rip off at all.

  • @nogrules House holds commonly use 30GB easily. That's 20GB over the 10GB max at a ridiculous rate. Rural people are forced into these insane rates.

  • @nogrules That's like saying that your car isn't using much gas because you're not driving it.

Normal home use will result in a bill over $100 every time.

    It *IS* a ripoff.

  • @nogrules will the rockethub make my connection better

  • @TheBatwingproduction

No, the rocket hub runs off 3G and not off your existing connection.

This would be a total different connection.

It's around $149 on a 3year plan. I thought it was very fairly priced.
