Hey great video. I enjoyed your sense of humor and the knowledge you passed on. I didn't know any of that about them. Thank you. I'm a new subscriber.
I have alot of opossums in my backyard, they come by every night, i feed them peanuts, chicken & the mom will wait at the window for a cookie that i hold out for her. There so cute!
Hi ! She is huge ! My Popsie is not as big as her yet ! We tried 2 not give her much attention , but she has no fear so she is homw us . We love her ! Right now she is either n the hall or bathroom ! She has already done several laps !
The opossum in this video Savannah will be featured on Animal Planet Pets 101 in the Fall of 2011! Also you may see Daisy a young opossum we just rescued in May :)
I don't like opossums, I had one under my backyard and it killed 5 of my chickens, one time i managed to catch it and I locked it in my empty garage for 3 days to teach it a lesson.
WE FOUND A BABY ONE AND ITS MOM WASN'T AROUND AT ALL =s I didn't know they could be so cute, here in mexico they have scarily super huge teeth but I dunno if there's dif species or what? like can I keep it as a pet if we go back n its still there alone???
I actually found a baby one in my backyard.I tried to bottle feed him but he kept trying to bite me.I finally got him semi tame and he stopped being so mean.
once a possum fell reeeeaaaally high from my backyard tree off on the side of the empty jacquzzi and into the grass and my dog attacked it and it died :'(
Well, you brought a new perspective to how I view possums. BTW, the bit about them being immune to snake venom intrigues me. Could this be studied to find a anti-venom for humans?
Oh yeah, he has been here with my girlfriend and I for a couple months now. He is all healed up and put on at least 10 pounds in weight. He is larger than the average cat now!
I think someone left him in a trap too long. The tips of his ears were also necrosized. But now he is really healthy! His favorite treat is Colby jack cheese! I have2 videos posted on YouTube right now. I would love to get some feedback from you about him! Thanks!
I have a Possum that I had to rehab back to health, now I think I'm stuck with him! I found him in a dumpster with broken ribs . He was a mess! Broken ribs and the last 3-5 inches of his tail was necrosized! I had to do quite a bit of work on him. Luckily I had antibiotics that were safe for him.
very interesting and informative! we see lots of opossums in our backyard and do let them have cat food. several months ago, a mother came to eat with one small baby riding on her back. we also rescued one young one caught by one of the cats. it was small, but old enough to be on it's own. it played dead as we moved it to a safe space and then got up and left after a few minutes while we kept watch.it had no injuries.
A question Swamp Girl. Why are all the Tasmanian Devils dieing of Facial Tumors? A cover up from the Tasmanian Government? Logging has taken about 80 per cent of their habitat which could be a cause. What do you think?
If people removed the road kill then there would not be a problem. 2500 Tasmanian Devils in Tasmania become road kill also due to them eating that on the road. The Wedge tailed Eagle also gets hit because it too likes road kill. People should learn to slow down and drive around them or remove the roadkill to the side of the road out of harms way. Good vid, keep up the good work swamp woman. Love from Australia
Trying to decide who is more adorable, Swamp Girl or the Opposum haha... Anyways,
Opossums are hella cool though! They're everywhere here in San Francisco, esspecially near parks. I see them climb outta storm drains on my street at night sometimes.
@rhox275 At about 6 inches body size that is on the verge of being on its own. By that size they can eat solids and fend for themselves but they can be vulnerable to predators. I bet its a cutie!
wow! that was some great info! i have talked to a few around here... they asked me to leave them alone. this video could have just as easily been on national geographic or discovery. nice work!
I am sure the opossum at the end of this video was thinking that being he was wild and having to be removed. But the other (Savannah) is happy to get love and enjoys cuddling!! She was a rescue and was hand raised so she does not mind so much :) They are more of a docile creature either way.
i think it is great that there is a women crocka dile hunter, all the nature shows r men,or bindi, not a single women, good luck, you persue this u may have just hit the nail on the head girlfeind, and people real;ly as u know need to learn to appreciate all wildlife, raccoon r my passion,so many myth people still believe ignorantlly, all raccon r born w/rabies,raccoon carry rabbies, all raccon out during the day have rabies,ALLL WRONG as u know, but causes much cruelity to these creatures, greatworkmw
Opossums have no highly developed mechanisms for attack or aggressive offense. They do have a highly developed defense like bluffing by showing their 50 sharp teeth or playing dead (playing opossum) in hopes that the predator will loose interest. If they are just seen passing by that's about it they pass by and try not to be noticed. This opossum has been handled a lot but aggression is just not something they like to show. :)
Perhaps you could produce a vid of how to safely remove a wild opossum and help stop the wanton slaughter witnessed here on YT---that would be great! Have you ever researched rabid opossum ?
I have yet to find a documented case that wasn't induced in a lab. There are several state level regional reports but they never have the supporting lab tests on file and they never get sent to the CDC. I have tried for two years, nothing found yet. Keep it up---Great work. THANK YOU
