@yatsand1 this song is still going strong in a small area of Canada.... I'm a blues singer & this was the nearest thing to country I knew. The Canadians LOVE it
so many memories that we used to laugh at when we were kids, but now the hubbie and the best sister ever have gone, the only two who really understood this tune have gone, now its just me who drinks to remember...how fucking sad is that, I miss the both of them so much
If you like this song there's a nice story about it i read once. The singer in Squeeze had eleceted to be a musician - as we know - but his mum wasn't too happy and wanted him to get a proper job. But when she heard this song on the radio, she knew her son had done the right thing.
Squeeze guitarist and lyricist Chris Difford got the idea for this song after looking at a photograph of an old lady sitting in a bar in Paris in 1936. Says Difford: Labeled With Love' was an adult lyric in a way that the older generation could latch on to and understand My mother absolutely loved it. The story is about the end of a relationship after the war I'd been reading about American soldiers in Britain during the war who married English girls and whisked them off their feet to the States
Chris Difford turned imperfect rhyme into an art form. I know this song backwards, even though only 2 of its 14 rhymes are perfect. It remains one of the most treasured gems in A&M's golden archive.
I love Squeeze. So many favourites that I'm still listening to after all these years. Talent with a capital "T" What great musicians they are. Chrs for posting this classic
Nice job; great to see someone your age is into Squeeze -- I've seen them 25times --Glen and Chris are outstanding songwriters that front a great, great band.
Keep listening to quality music that always stands up to the test of time
Rosie. I'm all for encouraging people to listen to Squeeze (see my site!). How does someone so young find out about one of Britain's best, let alone hear them?
Always been a fave of mine x

One of the most under rated bands of the late 70s, this is due to the music papers only writing punk in the history.
But the truth is for anyone who grew up in the late 70s, most of the punk singles had low chart positions and never sold very well..
But the written history tells us something else
