tkd fucking sucks and so does karate. as all of you should know, shaolin kung fu is the origin of all martial arts and it is the greatest martial art of all time. check the sources if you must.
A martial artist is a martial artist. No matter the style if u have a high level of skill and good teaching u'll know how to handle urself in a real situation...and trust me...i'm sure anyone in the vid knows what to do in a real situation.
all people here that tease the north korea tkd is useless..u all accually coward...why don`t u just invite them to fight with u?..too much talk..bla..bla..bla...like child!...
Training in any art is better than not training at all. While I have respect for TKD practitioners, the movements are so unrealistic for MMA or realistic self defense. Sorry, but get over it. Anyway, very impressive "tricks".
overall after all you guys argue and bicker, there are some things that korea doesn't teach the world or is no longer in the curriculum cause of the way some instructors run things for money or whatnot. you learn not from one but from many so go out there and figure it out.
What I don't understand is this. Taekwondo has alot of kicking techniques. Of those kicking techniques they also have leg takedowns which are seen in sanshou and mma and even capoeira. Taekwondo in america needs to use them more like in this video. It's not that the martial artsare useless it's that people need to train alot harder and they need more willpower.
Granted you won't be fighting an UFC guy on the street. I used UFC as an example because it's the closest thing that we have to the reality of a street fight. Now I don't know of one fighter in the UFC who uses TKD for their stand up fighting.
well tkd is one of the things that UFC fighters learn...along with boxing and wrestling (its says on the UFC website) and also Chuck Liddel, though hes a great striker, he also has devastating kicks
You're talking like there's a set training program which all UFC fighters follow, but there is no such thing. Some of them may have studied TKD initially, most of them did not, however all of them have devastating kicks and they are not the flashy kicks from TKD. Bas Rutten for example started by getting a 2nd degree black belt in TKD then moved on to Kyokusin then to Muay Thai. Look at all of his fights he does not use any TKD kicks or techniques.
Remember Keith Hackney from UFC 1 and 3? He was called Giant Killer because he defeated two sumo wrestlers, one was 600 pounds the other around 400. Keith was introduced as a fenomenal kicker but watch all his fights: he tried some kicks unsuccessfully and then he had to fall back on punches. The reality for stand up fighting is:
kicking and punching isnt for fights, its for entertainment and fun and sport. But in a real fight you just have to quick strike to a vital point. Yes TKD is only ment to fight its self because they use mostly kicks. But in real fights they're taught not to use kicks but to curl your fingers back from the first joint and strike a vital point then run, thats a self defence technique. You probably have no black belt, you need one to know this
A lot of fantastic kickers came to the UFC only to discover that kicks don't work and they had to fall back on hand techniques and other stuff. TKD is useless.
Not so. Striking is a big part of UFC and it always was, you'd know that if you had watched it from the beginning. Take Bas Rutten for example, he has a black belt in TKD and Kyokushin yet he mostly uses Muay Thay strikes and submissions. I've never seen him, or anyone else, use those flashy TKD kicks. Flash is trash and I know this firsthand, I used to practice TKD and while it is a great sport it's totally useless as a self defense martial art.
in the very beginning of ufc, strikers were getting their asses handed to them by wrestlers and bjj fighters. Boxing, muay thai, karate, tkd, all of them. So badly it got to the point that many would argue that striking was virtually useless against grappling.
I'm not interested in a debate, people can do what they want, I personally believe that a fighter should know both striking and grappling. TKD by itself is a great sport that has a lot of benefits including limited self defense skills.
self defence you can use it. Because self defence isnt about kicking, its about knowing what to do and they teach you. Its just not good in a boxing match, you dont fully understand taekwondo yet
My TKD teacher was a phenom, I remember I used to dread holding the pads for him, it felt like you were being hit by a train when he kicked. He told us about the time when he got attacked by two guys on the street and he just ran away. Good thinking if you ask me and a good self denfense technique, putting distance between you and your attacker, a long distance lol.
If TKD was anything else than a sport I would have stayed with it, anyway enough said, good luck defending yourself with TKD.
its kind of true though, most of the time you just should run away. But maby you have been taught by different people, if you get to black belt they teach you arm breaks knife defence and vital points for defence. I was taught bye the teacher of the korean army. Some of the best taekwondo
Ok so after 4 or 5 years once I get my black belt they will teach me how to defend myself, then what the heck was all that stuff that I learned until then for? "Put in 5 years of time and effort, hours of training everyday, lots of MONEY for membership, belt testing, equipment tournaments etc. and then we will start to teach you real self defense" Why not just learn the combat and self defense aspect FIRST? That's a very crappy approach to self defense if you ask me.
yes acctually most other martial arts teach you it first but there is a reason for taekwondo, they want to disciplin you with patterns and make you have respect for the masters and students there, they dont want some maniac walking in the first week and out on the streets robbin people and knowing how to kill and break someones arm so easily. Dont take taekwondo so seriously, alot of the time its for fun fitness and family. I know some of what you mean but i suggest running away from a fight.
However, the ITD team in the part of the video attributed to "Nort Korea" seemed to have American flags on their uniform, altough it's too grainy to tell.

You do the math.
