My 1992 Toyota 4runner is a beast, maybe not as beast as what's in this video, but I love 4runners, I just got my front drive shaft and steering stabilizer shock today, can't wait for the test drive haha
I love Toyota vehicles as I myself came from a place where Toyota vehicles were most used to travel in deserts and rough roads in Africa. You can view my video of Toyota Land cruiser that was 20 years old and still going strong. Go to Arba Minch Nech sar National park 2009 to see my video.
The silver one at 12:00 is like what I'd like to have one day. Could you message me and tell me what all you've done to it and what sort of MPG you get?
@deadlock241 Its a hobbie. Whats the point of skateboarding, snowboarding, sking, hunting, fishing, playing video games, etc etc etc? Also unlike many people who build or 4x4's, we actually like to USE them.
@steezemcqueen too many fucking luxury SUVs here being babied by fat people all around me in 'Merica. none of the SUVs I see wheere I live have actually touched dirt, much less are they capable of. 'cept my dad's 97 SR5 4x4
@SenorDennis That's my rig. It is basically the Ultimate Lift, except in the rear I am running Land Cruiser coils. I also have a 1.5" body lift. Tires are 285's.
@sn0wrunner Awesome 4runner. I have been trying to decide between the Sonoran Steel lift and the Ultimate. But I think I'm going to go with the Ultimate. Thanks!
With these 3rd gens, do most people just fourwheel automatic transmission, or is it worth trying to hunt down one of the hard to find manual? I've always liked the 5spds myself, but they are hard to come by...
@rampagechr1s TJM doesn't sell brackets to accommodate for a body lift. I didn't do anything to the brackets for my 1.5" body lift so there is a small gap. But the brackets do have a little play in them, so I have it moved up as far as it can go. I know sonoran steel will fabricate body lift brackets for the TJM. I don't feel the need to raise it up any closer to the body though because when you flex the frame actually flexes as well and if it is right up on the body it can cause damage.
@sn0wrunner Ok, Thanks. I'm thinking about buying that same bumper, and I like the distance you have between the body and bumper, but I have a 2in body lift. :(
@Allof75 I like my IFS, and it takes me most places I want to go. However there are a definitely advantages to having a solid axle. I break too many damn cv's.
@Allof75 We are investigating... So far no luck making them stronger. They keep breaking. Look into a total chaos long arm kit for the desert racing. They are stupid expensive, but if thats what you want to do, thats the way to go. If those are too expensive, the regular IFS will do ok, but you are right, the solid axle would not be ideal for that.
@sn0wrunner That seems to be the case. But they seem to be some of the most capable IFS rigs out there so, they're definitely a high priority. If only TTB was on more rigs, then I could split the difference.
@Allof75 The toytec coil overs with 600 lb springs. In the rear I got OEM FJ80 springs with bilstein 5125's. As well as a 1.5" 4crawler body lift. Hope that helps. thanks for watching!
@sn0wrunner Very good, that's pretty much exactly what I am planning on doing myself, why did you choose the coilovers over the bilstein height adjustable shocks?
@pandaonweed The bumper on the green one was made by the owner of that vehicle. The one on the '01 Silver is made by a custom shop in colorado springs. Armorology.
@sn0wrunner yea so im limited to some small off roading ill put up a vid next week of what iv found. i havent gotten stuck on any thing even though my runner is stock so i think im doing well
@sn0wrunner well a toytec lift of course re geared diffs air locker 31s and bumpers so its going to cost a bit but i want to have it done by next year i just went to armorlogy today to see about bumpers. witch runner is yours and is the owner of toytec with you that looks like his silver runner
@DrMaarki No, Doug (the owner of toytec) didnt make this trip. We know him well though. Mine is the silver Limited in the begining of the video with the lights, then the shot through the creek (it has a toytec banner across the roof rack). I think you were mistaking my buddy Glen's runner for doug's. they both have an aromorology front bumper. Jed does amazing work. When you go to order from toytec, ask for dylan and tell him that Jeff sent you, and he'll give you a discount.
thanks man what other parts would u reconmend for the 4runner i just got the suv and i want to make it an off road/ crawler? so any sugestions will help and thanks again
also i liked the set up on the 2 silver 4runner in the video do u know there set up and can u tell me?
@BigBJ1986 yeah, every 4runner in the video is running parts from toytec. In the front we are running toytec's 3.5" coil overs, and in the rear we are running OEM FJ80 Land Cruiser Coils. These springs are actually from the front of the LC and fit the REAR of our 4runners. Bilstein 5125 shocks work great with these springs. Armor is always good too, Bud Built makes great skids for our runners. and check out stubbs welding for sliders.
Is the 4runner as good an off roader as the Hummer H2 ? And can you use off road tires in city streets ? Will it be comfortable, will it be loud, will it be bumpy, and would you be able to get good traction still?
@counkev I just answered this question that you posted on my other video. Yes off road tires work fine on city streets, and yes they are a bit louder than regular street tires. Traction would be better, thats what the tires are made for.
i would really appreciate knowing whats on yours guys' rigs. Those are the most badass 3rd gens I've ever seen. I just got one and i trying to figure out what I want to do. I love wheeling. If you could let me know that would be awsome.
@Ctizz3 Thanks! Check out 3rdgens.c o m and go to the "my rig" section for profiles. I havent created one for my runner yet (the one going through the water at the beginning of the video), but there are full lists of mods there.
@sn0wrunner No Problem! As long as you bring some more vids every now and then! My T4R is 2wd and im a low budget college student so cant exactly do all that stuff but i enjoy watching it and wait for the day i can build my own rig! definitely going to be a 4Runner feaux sheaux! haha
And yes he does have the driving skills for that props on that one!
