  • Yankee, I just subscribed to your channel and was checking out some vids and idk if you knew they were doing this, but adsense or youtube, whichever is advertising for barack obama on your channel. Having watched your other video i thought you may want to know. You don't know me from adam so idk what you would want to do about it if anything, but personally I'd be a little upset given your views that they were using adsense for political stuff. Just a heads up hombre.

  • Good stuff. Happy Holidays.

  • Great video brother, is their a reason you deleted some of your past vids, I liked re watching them sometimes.

  • Before I make any serious purchases, I consult Consumer Reports. It's paid off for me; the published research has proved to be valid and reliable. Anyone can consult backdated issues at the local public library for free. Thanks for the heads up on "recondition centers."

  • Good vid, keep it up!

  • the title says it all, perfect

  • Prepping / homesteading as a choosen lifestyle, irregardless of what is happening in the world -- This is something I've been thinking alot about lately. I guess I was a prepper before that was a common term. We chose to live as we do many years ago, (debt free, working towards raising most of our own food, etc.) I feel sorry for folks who feel they HAVE to prep and aren't living the life they really want to.

  • My electric bill for the last two months has been less than $100 when my neighbors right now are over $150. Hot water heater timer. Programmable AC/Heater. Smart smart smart. Use your brain people.

My next house (and hopefully LAST house I buy) will hopefully be off grid entirely.

  • Perhaps best summed up by the old adage "Waste not, want not". I'm fortunate to have some relatives who grew up on farms before there was grid and I always look forward to discussions with them. I find it fascinating and edifying! I try learn as much as I can from them. Our parents and their parents are a tremendous and dying resource. I guess that's why I like your channel so much YP!

  • Self sufficiency should be every preppers goal and I find it amazing how preppers seem to be one of the biggest and most accepting group of green technologies... If you look into a water heater wrap or insulation blanket that can make your water heater 25% to 30% more efficient.

  • @kcatto12 "Green Technologies" are bullshit and that is not what this is about, What I am using is mostly REAL technology that has been around for along time, before we started relying on the grid.

  • @Yankeeprepper Dont throw the baby out with the bath water...we used a giant windmill to pump water on our farm..windmills have been used for hundreds of years to grind grain into flour. And solar only sucks because the panels you see right now are the same design from the 1950's and lead acid batterys are even older. Imagine trying to use a computer or a toaster or car from the 50's Green dosent mean uncool or "Unreal" ..maybe an open mind is in order here..respectfully as always

  • @joecoool100 Joe, you are on the wrong channel. "OPEN MIND" is a liberal key word of "will believe any busllhit" as long as it "feels good". CLOSE YOUR MIND around the TRUTH. and quit wasting my time with your Al Gore religion of fools.

  • I agree with buying the best items you can. The bitterness of low quality outlives the sweetness of low price.

  • I totally agree with you, YP, you make a lot of good points.

To me, prepping is also a question of maintining a decent lifestyle, while cutting back on the waste and unnecessary expenses. LED lights, some people argue they are expensive, but considering they (good ones) are guaranteed to last for more than 50,000 hours, and they take 1-3W, they pay themselves off in no time. Heating is important, and there are many ways to increase efficiency. I track all power consumption, and tweak as I go.

  • Thank you.

  • You really grabbed some great deals.

  • Back in the saddle again. Good Stuff. Merry Christmas Brother.

  • Three new videos in one week. Looks like Yankeeprepper is BACK!!! Woo Hooo!!

  • Good info! Thanks

  • Good wisdom. Plan for enough contingencies and learn efficiency and things pay off in ways you might never imagine plus the snowball effect. Any more tweaks to get you into the top 3 in therm usage? Just curious. New subscriber here, enjoy your perspective. Cheers!!

  • Much of what you cover also applies to prepping in the city. Throttle back on spending, pound that debt into oblivion and redirect the surplus to real things that will help you in both good times and hard times.

I'm still in the city and will be till I accumulate enough cash to buy my suburban homestead. If luck is on my side I may even be able to buy the place without a mortgage.

That's a beautiful wood stove but have you ever considered rocket mass heater technology? I'd like your opinion.

  • i always try to use this example in my life, when explaining why my family prep's, not that long ago a computer hick-up, or paper work not signed or filed right, or what ever coused me not to get paid for a month (yes i got it in the end) but anyway for that month my family and I had no issues, because we had been prepping for some time now, No one not even my kids had any idea that we didnt get paid, the bills got paid and food was still on the table and we did not stress about it!

  • YP, like you we see prepping as a series of investments in both time and money. If that investment makes sence, and we can make it happen then we do it. I am lucky enough to have an awesome woman who sees the value of living this way. Knowing that we have the wherewithall to go long periods of time without basic services (water, availability of food and fuel) really has had a positive impact on us and how we view what goes on in the world. The feeling of security has been worth every penny!

  • . You do a great job on saving money threw your prepps. I try to do the same. I like the natural gas appliances also. Take care and thanks for sharing..........

  • Good info Thanks

  • Great video ! I was wondering if it would be possible for you to do a video on how you maintain/clean your wood stove and chimney. I tried looking around on YouTube and all I could find was a bunch of videos put out by professional chimney sweepers saying how amateurs shouldn't attempt maintaining their own stoves and chimneys.

  • @ChristopherWalkenPUA You don't need a video for that. Figure out how long the liner is, then go to your local Ace Hardware (or local equivalent) and buy a brush, and number of extension poles needed. After that, you need to figure out how to remove the heat shield bricks from the roof of the stove. Next figure out how to gain access to you chimney (safely), and remove the cap. After that simply brush the liner into you stove keeping the door closed. Reassemble when done.

  • @SomeGuyInSandy great info thanks.

  • @ChristopherWalkenPUA A couple of other things I couldn't fit before. When brusing your liner NEVER turn the poles counterclockwise, otherwise they can come apart. After that it is simple common sense! Good luck. My gas bill has been $0.00 for five years now as I only use my woodstove. I clean it twice a year without any problems.

  • Prepping is a lifestyle. And if nothing goes down and all is fine I'll just keep on prepping.

  • add below == wood burner all it cost me is my time and the gas and dead trees to heat house whitch is maybe 100.oo at most a month other wise dte would have me bent over lol as it is they do with the electric sofar , but thats a different day but glad to see you doing videos again yankee besafe brother

  • lol you are the zen master ,...................... but im the same way i have my wood burner it saves me 500.oo a month my first heating bill was 600.00 when i moved into the house im at now when i got my first bill i dam near died i called them and sid are you fricking nuts but they cam out and it was a actule read i then walked over to the theamastat and turned it off , the funny thing is i had it set to 62 degrees then i called my uncle and told him im comeing up to get my wood

  • I think I'd pass out if I had to pay a heating bill.

  • I Am Curious Have You Ever Used Gassification ????

  • @billageguy For what? To run a my generator? my car? Gassification does not make sense to me in that aspect. Cool to do it, but It's a TON of work, wood and effort to get results. I would not recommend it from a prepping point of view unless you have endless woods, TIME and MANPOWER. England used gassification during WW2 to run some delivery vehicles and you can learn alot about that experiment on line. Luckily the Brits had Listers diesels and veg. oil to run the farms.

  • @Yankeeprepper i totaly agree, the whole gassification of wood, or any other fuel source, makes for a great science fair project, but thats it, ppl are way to misinformed about it, mainly by the "Free energy" boobs. Yes it works but it is one of the most wasteful uses of any fuel source, like the cars only get like 3 pounds of wood to the mile (cant remember exactly) its good if you have no other choice, but as a prepper i would spend that same money on a steam engine as an example. great video

  • @billageguy My family's gassifier runs on beans, garlic and onions. When we need more gas, the wife just feeds me more ;)

  • yup, that pretty much sums it up,good stuff

  • I have saved a ton of money since installing my woodstove. Has paid for itself many times over. Good vid man.

  • Good info I have never seen a report on my house status on use of electricity or gas, will have to see if I can get one thanks.

  • My wood stove saves me a bundle.

  • Nice moon shot, That telescope really helps!-) Those are very cool everyday details that add up. Like my Grandfather used to say, "its not what you make, its what you keep that matters" Thanks YP, great vid, Take care

  • Yankee, you and I are probably about the same age, at least of the same generation. But you remind me of my father. He consulted Consumer Reports before buying ANYthing, used to drive my mother insane. Good thing is, he passed it on to me. I agree with your video 10000%. Thanks for speaking the simplest of truths.

  • great subject...will respond

  • Great Job!

  • Great insights

  • Lately Ihave been getting in touch with my inner cheap skate and buying energy efficient everything, even swapped out the plasma tv for a LED...

  • thanks for all your tips yankee, alot of us just love yall everylittle tip helps

  • I saw this video and was aware of Yankeeprepper's central point to this video. I agree with the idea of prudent spending and bargain hunting; I try to do the same with every purchasing decision I make. I just made the comment to raise awareness of the plight of many Americans (and others) who are trying to prepare and are unable to do so in the short time that I believe remains.

  • Responding to Mr Saber 152. A tankless water heater requires electricity, so if power goes out, no hot water... instantly. With a tank type, you don't need electricity so you will have hot water even if the power goes out.

  • That is the most simple letter. Our monthly letter from SDG&E not only lets us know where we are at (compared to last year), but it itemizes all their lovely fees. Though we cut back on the use of a bunch of stuff, our average bill is around 180dollars; a savings of 50dollars (thought it would have saved more); we even shut off all power at night. All subject to change (when they suck more) I mean when they're soon to raise the rates and much needed fees. Soon to disconnect.Good vid. Take care.

  • Thank you for the reminder, since my backpacking in the mid 1960's, to the california landslides in the early 1980's, I have always had the ability to rely on myself. Once I was married and the california earthquakes reminded me to make sure the others around me were prepared for along with my personal needs. Since the mid 1980's, I have been prepared if displaced, or at home, without reliable utilities... Now every Prepper list I see, I have everything on the lists already. Small $ monthly.

  • ceiling fans? iv been using mine this winter with my fire burning and i have noticed little differance. is there some trick or method that i should be aware of to increase the effect?

and why use a water tank instead of tankless water heater? im sorry for these lame questions first time home owner and i value your experance thanx again

  • @MrSaber152 Celing fans move hot air down and through the house, instead of sitting next to the ceiling where nobody can use it. My tank helds 70 extra gallons of fresh water in an emergency.

  • Awesome. #7 is great. We are beginning to switch to LED lights and a wood stove is planned for a summer install. I have been searching craigslist and found some great deals on wood stoves. You have inspired me to get going. Thanks.

  • You make some good points here. Just remember that there are a number of preppers watching who are unemployed or underemployed and do not have the disposable income to realize some of the benefits of the prepper lifestyle that you advocate in this video.

  • @Aduhwan I am not trying to create a channel for every man, woman and child on earth. I have worked my ass off for what I do have and nothing was given to me accept God's grace ....This is what I DO with MY INCOME. I hope that everyone remembers that when they come to my channel.

  • @Yankeeprepper So many people with so many heads buried so deep up so many asses, it's amazing.

It doesn't matter how much money one makes, most spend stupidly. Doesn't matter how little one makes, it can be spent wisely. Poor people in the US are rich on a world wide standard. Basic needs are cheap & much of the best in life is free. Putting in extra effort to prepare isn't that much work, and it does save money.

Everyone should be able to profit from your example, you're very intelligent.

  • @Yankeeprepper yep, and the more you prep, the lower you bills become - and then you can work on bigger projects

  • @Aduhwan Did u watch or listen to the video its not about the have and have nots its about spending what money you have wisely and finding bargens by not paying top dollar and how over time it snowballs into savings in the long run. Prepping is a lifestyle not a fad it takes time some people longer than others to get where he is today. Weather you have money or not its about giving you ideas that may help you with the preps that you can afford not what someone else can afford.

  • nah... you #1 and Good guy BP is #2! bah bah black sheep.:)

  • This is why I watch your channel. I can't stand the doomsday preppers. They wait for the big one (whatever it is) but whine and moan when the power goes out.

  • kids are wonderfull ive two glorious boys three and one i do it for them

  • you know I was watching the inteview with demcad you did, so was thinking about how this is so true prepping becomes everyday actions and thoughts.just feels right for me.

Love the little angels at the christmas show, thanks and God Bless you all!

  • Always love your vids. You are a great example for others to follow in the prepping lifestyle, family values, and Christian living. God Bless you and yours brother. Merry CHRISTmas!

  • Excellent work, prepping is just being a good steward of what has been given you.

I've cut my utilities in half by upgrading appliances, LED and CFL.

  • Some of this is just being frugal which everyone should do whether they believe in prepping or not.

  • Thanks for the vid yankee. Im getting married next october and am looking forward to having a family to be proud of.

  • Nice work brother! I proudly thumb my nose at the gas company by not having fired my furnace for the past 3 years! With the winters around here, in the second year I fully paid for the stove, install, 27Ton wood splitter, chain saws, and manual processing equipment. This year, it's all gravy!!

  • great stuff.

  • I was looking for Lon Chaney Jr. at the end there. :P

  • almost forgot im trying to make a hydrogen generator for us so i can use electrolisis to produce my own gas because prices are going through the roof ill take solar power to get hydrogen from water free electric free gas no bill. take care

  • great video bud you sure know what your doing your an inspiration to us all i hope i can manage to emulate some of what you have done.take care and happy xmas to you & youre family from alisdair in scotland

  • I moved to an all-electric i bedroom apartment, so only buy electricity. The bill has a bar chart displaying monthly usage for a year. I the summer, I pay under $20 and in winter under $40.

  • one of the best vids I have seen on prepping for the everyday so that doomsday isn't all that gloomy. Thankyou...

  • Great video Yankee. I look at it the same way man. That statement from your gas company would be awesome to get. We can't even get an actual bill here. They "estimate" everything. What a motivator that would be though.

  • Keep that hot water tank flushed clean annually for high heat transfer efficency and check anode every 2 years. Also the new led lights in the 5 to 10 watt power are becoming cheaper which are best reserved for main lights. Good to see you are ahead of curve compared to rest of nation.

  • great job!!! what you say makes tons of sense. I've noticed my electric bill has gone down since we switched to CFs, we will eventually go to LED when the budget allows. And now we have a high effecientcy refrig and washer/dryer. we shall see that that does. I'm hoping the water bill will go down with the washer/dryer. They doubled our water bill to pay for a new storm water holding area. My water bill used to be 50 bucks a month now its 100 a month, and I'm still using the same.

  • Great video as always!

I put in an outdoor wood boiler that heats the house and domestic water. It's nice to see the propane tank still full and the electric bill dropping (electric water heater).

  • this (prepping) is really about a lifestyle change, you don't need to be an extremest to want to provide food safety and warmth to your loved ones. Thanks for the time you take in putting out videos.

  • Great advice.

I have reduced my electric by $25 a month so far. Next on tap is a multi fuel stove to supplement the propane furnace ,and then a wood stove for back up and enjoyment.

  • no offense but couples that don't have kids are still families. i think you mean families that don't have kids? otherwise good video and yoiu're right, my prepping saves my husband and I tons.

  • @AnnieNM06 Hey annie if that offends you and you are that big of a nit picker. This is probably the wrong channel for you to watch. No offense meant, just plain speaking. There are more important thing sfor you to worry about for sure. I also sometimes refer to people as sheep too.

  • @Yankeeprepper Sheeple... :) nothing better to do then complain.. jeesh.. I like the clip in the beginning. I commend you for leading your family in the way of the Lord. It's hard to do. I know... I have 4 little ones and I fail daily. Keep at it brotha. -Steve P.

  • @AnnieNM06 the family is what every society is based on.it consists of a man,a woman and children.a society without children IS DEAD.doomed no future. you might say me and my husband are a family too but you are wrong you are a couple. people have different ideas about what they call a family. is the italian mob one? im sure theres somewhere close friends living together calling themselves family too.or single people living with their dogs and cats. family? they might tell you it is

  • Good stuff man I have noticed prepping has made me alot more frugal in my life and has started saving me money it works out great less worries all around thanks and God Bless

  • Excellent video brother. I think this is why we prep and all else just falls into place. We have to live life and laugh and enjoy our time with family and friends. Life is good brother! Thank you for this video and the moon shot at the end looked great....

  • great video ! i have not been prepping all that long..perhaps a year...but i have noticed some returns on my investement.

great way to make a great point..keep em coming !

  • thats absolutely precious !!! Thank you. My wife is 7 months pregnant.

  • @operator223 CONGRATS to you brother. My oldest is 6 years old and I already miss them when they were little peanuts. Kids are the hardest thing to do I have ever loved and would have 20 if I could.

  • @Yankeeprepper I love children and I want them all to have a better and freer life than I have. That's why I do it. I absolutely despise those that abuse our childrens future and fill their greed at the expense of good men and women.

  • It would be nice to think that some of the ppl that used less gas than you arn't actually living in the house....pilot lights on water heaters etc.maybe they are in florida for the winter :) thanks for showing us the spoils of prepping.my wife wasnt a fan of prepping till I could show her that it could free up alot of money to do other things.Merry Christmas to you and your family Yankeeprepper

  • YANKEEPREPPER, THIS IS ONE OLE SOUTHERN BOY WHO REALLY ENJOYS YOUR VIDS. ALWAYS GOOD INFO AND SOME HUMOR THROWN IN. THE BEST TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.

  • @SuperJcollins You are certainly welcome here. I have many southern friends on youtube and in the real world, even some family. There is a loud minority that happens to live south, but do not represent the South on youtube that I have little patience for. They remind me of the idiots I would run into while stationed at US army bases. Lazy, asshat locals who coudn't get a job/pissed off at the world. They especially did not like G.I.'s,...because their women really did.

  • Thanks YankeePrepper. That's a great resource. I hope our gas company shares this information with us one day when we own a home. Right now we live in an apartment and don't have access to this info.

  • Nice Video Thx for the Advice!!!

  • I think this video is a good example of showing the "tipping point" if you will, of when investing in prepping turns into prepping paying off. Another great video.

  • Good job. I wish I had natural gas as electricity is expensive but solar is in my future and that will help. Have a great Christmas.

  • Perfect. Well said

  • Since I have been prepping: My electric bill has been $50-60 a month during Fall-Winter. (With electric heat.) I have reduced my total bills to $683 a month. I have no debt. I feel I could even reduce my bills further. I recently have found myself unemployed. My food storage has saved my life. Since I purchased the food while prices were lower and had it on hand. My family and I avoided being hungry. Prepping has made my live more comfortable also. Good video. Was aka "speiracrotalus".

  • Efficient! Nothing at all wrong with that! ;) c

  • thumbs up yankeeprepper

  • Have a Great Christmas and a Fantastic New Year.
