A lot of people like to say this isn't wing chun. But when I watch Emin's demos, everything ends in a takedown. I think this is just more how he uses wing chun. He uses standing combat to take people to the ground.

They both suck, but people can't often fight in pressure situations. It doesn't matter what those people know (or claim to know). People say an MMA fighter or wrestler could have beat these two in the video. I agree. However, any good Wing Chun fighter could also have beat them easily. Maybe these guys can teach concepts/movement/technique (and maybe not)?, but they sure can't fight.
Emin suggest he has the been the victor of 300 street fights! When one takes into consideration that individuals such as, Mike Tyson, Joe Louis, and Muhammad Ali lost fights with rules, it would seem ridiculous to suggest that an individual could be victories in hundreds of fights without rules. My take is that emin used the element of surprise like Miyamoto Musashi did but times are different now so HOW DARE HE DISGRACE the name of wing chun like that. From what the video shows, Emin clearly beat William, what we don't see is what happened before and after this. Of course there's A lot of people spreading rumors about what happened and why, so I will just make my own assumption, I never thought William Cheung was good at Wing Chun or street fighting, personally his Wing Chun looks like crap and he looks like he could never apply it in the street the way Bruce was able to.
When Boztepe beat him , he clearly has no clue whatsoever what to do from his back, expect he thought his BS Wing Chun skills would mean he couldn't get taken down. @scarred10 I've studied a number of martial arts including Muay Thai, Karate, Xing Yi Quan, and yes even Wing Chun. I think you're right in a sense. People forget sparing is an another fundamental of marital art. Also, in order to get good at fighting one must fight! I do not advocate violence, but actual combat is the only way to really get good at actual combat. However, I think one can be better prepared by open style sparing. Hence, Wing Chun people are typically vulnerable to tackles.
Its a fight, not a game of girls pitter-patter. In real fights, anything goes - including ground fighting(which happens over 90% of the time in a real fight) Plus it is a strategy. In a real fight, you go for your opponents weakness. Emin knew that the wing chun guy would be weak on the ground, whereas Emin was better on the ground.
Again, real fights are not supposed to be fair. This is not girls pitter-patter.
Its called fighting. The guy who won the fight is a wing chun guy, but he also knows a little bit of grappling(ground fighting) so he did the smart thing and took the wing chun guy out of his element by taking him down to the ground.

Im a white belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu but I know quite a lot about grappling. I think both of those styles(Japanese Jiu Jitsu and Judo) are both great to learn.
But in my opinion, if you want to be the best you can be at fighting on the ground, then as your ground fighting base, you should learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu from the source - the Gracies. They are excellent teachers.
I would then add Judo and wrestling for the takedowns/throws etc

You can become a legit blue belt in BJJ by DVD training. Go to gracie academy website and look for the Gracie Combatives DVD in the store section.
All you have to do is master the 36 techniques and film yourself and a partner doing the blue belt qualification test, then send it the gracies and they will send you your belt if you pass.

Im correcting a typing error William Chueng @ Emin Bostepe play fighting (ie Emin jumping William from behind when William was giving a Seminar) only lasted a total of 27 sec - Emin got in a few lucky shots,then once the short crap recording was finished Emin got up @ ran away - Lucky William didnt catch him becouse William would have brocken Emins bones ( William can throw a 2 inch board in the air @ break it with a knife edge palm strike ) - William was not hurt during Emin`s play fight.

Looks like cheung got wrestled not wingchunned. A one on one contest using ONLY wingchun would have settled the better wing chun master. But real fighting doesn't play that way. Apparently many people are misinformed about what 'Grand Master' means. It doesn't mean you're a 'Supreme' Mjaster or anything like that. It's only means that he was a Master who trained someone who reached Master level himself hence Grand Master. Ie. Your father's father is GRAND father. But being a 'Grand' Master you should have the wisdom, experience and temperament to seriously know better than to boast. If you issue challenges there are people that would gladly accept.
The title of this with the vs. in it makes it sound like it was a fight that was scheduled, it was not as most people that practice WC know. Cheung did say words to the effect that we was always ready for an attack and Boztepe took him at his word. Cheung was leaving a conference and was not expecting to get 'jumped'. That said I have learned a lot from both these men in videos and am quite happy for them to sort it out. Just clarification for those that did not know the circumstance.
@coapley this is very ironic, with your so-called "truth". i know of 4 sifus from the NY area who all trained with Duncan Leung. it was Duncan Leung himself who told them that William Cheung was the best fighter, and in fact, when William Cheung came to the US, they all started to train with him from that point on. that would include Sifu Mazza, Sifu Redmond, and Sifus Joel and Gary Young. there may be others.

Bottom line: Ground fighting is tough. The better ground fighter will win. Look at the Gracies when they hit the scene. Of course, watch out for the bites an finger jabs to the eyes. But you do need to learn groundfighting one and all.even kung fu masters.

But the medium distance fight was very difficult and full of techniques and lines, so later on the Romans who took it lost it - so Pagratio ended up to be concidered as ground fighting. But it was not, because ancient Dimaratos is describing it and saying that MOST fights finish without ending to ground -because oponent is dead. But some go to ground, so it end up like ant-fights;) Both are important.
Guys i study Wing Chun and i love thw system. It is for sure that it doesn't include groung fighting in its traditional version. On the other hand, ground fighting is important. If not, ancient Greeks (who were the most trained fighters) would not have the Pagration (medium distance fight+ground fightin). Was something like Wing Chun+Ground fightin with Chi Na.

I feel you should take the time out to study multiple arts for multiple years if you want to call yourself an MMa fighter. Studying under the grandmother's nephew's brother's cousin of one of the Gracie holds no weight! Every art has it's weaknesses and strengths. @Ljenkins9000 There is a lot of debate in the wc community over which teacher and version is better. First off there is a big difference in the philosophies and knowledge behind training to be a wc practitioner. One thing most of them believing that you should be soft with your movements and focus on proper angles. Angles are important but when u see people train in mma they not only focus on technique but power and endurance as well. Most wc practitioners dont focus on power and conditioning

From what the video shows, Emin clearly beat William, what we don't see is what happened before and after this. Of course there's A lot of people spreading rumors about what happened and why, so I will just make my own assumption, I never thought William Cheung was good at Wing Chun or street fighting, personally his Wing Chun looks like crap and he looks like he could never apply it in the street the way Bruce was able to.

When Boztepe beat him , he clearly has no clue whatsoever what to do from his back, expect he thought his BS Wing Chun skills would mean he couldn't get taken down. He was completely helpless got his head smashed on floor and punched repeatedly in the face, until Cheung supporters had to pull Emin away before he did more damage. @scarred10 I've studied a number of martial arts including Muay Thai, Karate, Xing Yi Quan, and yes even Wing Chun. I think you're right in a sense. People forget sparing is an another fundamental of marital art. Also, in order to get good at fighting one must fight! I do not advocate violence, but actual combat is the only way to really get good at actual combat. However, I think one can be better prepared by open style sparing. Hence, Wing Chun people are typically vulnerable to tackles.

Its a fight, not a game of girls pitter-patter. In real fights, anything goes - including ground fighting(which happens over 90% of the time in a real fight) Plus it is a strategy. In a real fight, you go for your opponents weakness. Emin knew that the wing chun guy would be weak on the ground, whereas Emin was better on the ground.
Again, real fights are not supposed to be fair. This is not girls pitter-patter.

Im a white belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu but I know quite a lot about grappling. I think both of those styles(Japanese Jiu Jitsu and Judo) are both great to learn.
But in my opinion, if you want to be the best you can be at fighting on the ground, then as your ground fighting base, you should learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu from the source - the Gracies. They are excellent teachers.
I would then add Judo and wrestling for the takedowns/throws etc
But BJJ on its own is good enough.

Youre welcome, my friend! You will go far if you add grappling into your wing chun.
You can become a legit blue belt in BJJ by DVD training. Go to gracie academy website and look for the Gracie Combatives DVD in the store section.
All you have to do is master the 36 techniques and film yourself and a partner doing the blue belt qualification test, then send it the gracies and they will send you your belt if you pass.
I highly recommend checking it out.

Im correcting a typing error William Chueng @ Emin Bostepe play fighting (ie Emin jumping William from behind when William was giving a Seminar) only lasted a total of 27 sec - Emin got in a few lucky shots,then once the short crap recording was finished Emin got up @ ran away - Lucky William didnt catch him becouse William would have brocken Emins bones ( William can throw a 2 inch board in the air @ break it with a knife edge palm strike ) - William was not hurt during Emin`s play fight.

Only thing I haven't seen in ANY of them is what appears to be an actual application of martial arts by either one. I've been in street fights that lasted longer & had more elegance.
This just seems like a sad mismatch, & sadder still is that years later, martial artists continue to dishonour themselves & their art by putting down an art that is not their own.

Looks like cheung got wrestled not wingchunned. A one on one contest using ONLY wingchun would have settled the better wing chun master. But real fighting doesn't play that way. That's why so many kungfu "masters" learn ground fighting. Any wrestler could have done that to pretty much anyone by surprise. These comment boards are so entertaining.

anyone with half a brain can tell this was a set up, emin got someone to film the whole thing knowing he planned it, they only showed the parts that would show him in a good light, left out any parts that would discredit him as a coward who attacks people when they're not ready, even boxers can get nailed in weigh in situations by surprise attacks.

Apparently many people are misinformed about what 'Grand Master' means. It doesn't mean you're a 'Supreme' Mjaster or anything like that. It's only means that he was a Master who trained someone who reached Master level himself hence Grand Master. Ie. Your father's father is GRAND father. But being a 'Grand' Master you should have the wisdom, experience and temperament to seriously know better than to boast. If you issue challenges there are people that would gladly accept.

The title of this with the vs. in it makes it sound like it was a fight that was scheduled, it was not as most people that practice WC know. Cheung did say words to the effect that we was always ready for an attack and Boztepe took him at his word. Cheung was leaving a conference and was not expecting to get 'jumped'. That said I have learned a lot from both these men in videos and am quite happy for them to sort it out. Just clarification for those that did not know the circumstance.

@coapley this is very ironic, with your so-called "truth". i know of 4 sifus from the NY area who all trained with Duncan Leung. it was Duncan Leung himself who told them that William Cheung was the best fighter, and in fact, when William Cheung came to the US, they all started to train with him from that point on. that would include Sifu Mazza, Sifu Redmond, and Sifus Joel and Gary Young. there may be others.

Bottom line: Ground fighting is tough. The better ground fighter will win. Look at the Gracies when they hit the scene. Of course, watch out for the bites an finger jabs to the eyes. But you do need to learn groundfighting one and all.even kung fu masters.

@BKKaye I think to be a complete fighter you need ground fighting, but if you can't defend a kick to the face or a jab to the eyes, you will be gone before the fight even gets to the ground.
Now for Sport MMA fighting, ground fighting is a must have.

as far as wing chun stuff concern the only guy got my attention is sifu sergio of europe except he labeled himself as grandmaster which is not funny,, other than that the guy is great in his business,hes got great schools and hes just opening or already did open his hongkong school..of cuz i also know that he was from same lineage with emin and friends and seen him in hkg.. anyways he makes great moves and brings all the different lineages together,emin ? look what he shows here.stupid shit..

its been said that BL had street fights but i couldnt find never mind two but even one real shit ,, BL was a cha cha dancer and not a fully trained martial artist in wing chun or any other martial arts, so my good friend emin boztepe and so many others adopeted the idea of makin claims but never having the actual fights lol ..so same as i couldnt find one real fight of BL i couldnt find emins,, he must be talkin about his arguments with racist germans or school practices.. great ideas lol.

But the medium distance fight was very difficult and full of techniques and lines, so later on the Romans who took it lost it - so Pagratio ended up to be concidered as ground fighting. But it was not, because ancient Dimaratos is describing it and saying that MOST fights finish without ending to ground -because oponent is dead. But some go to ground, so it end up like ant-fights;) Both are important.

Guys i study Wing Chun and i love thw system. It is for sure that it doesn't include groung fighting in its traditional version. On the other hand, ground fighting is important. If not, ancient Greeks (who were the most trained fighters) would not have the Pagration (medium distance fight+ground fightin). Was something like Wing Chun+Ground fightin with Chi Na.

cut the bullshit, as some of u may know that Emin is a wrestler before he learned shotokan and wing chun ,so simply he attacked the man and took him down with a leg move ,you must remember that he was young and taller and way stronger than older WC. so he simply grabbed his neck and used his other leg to block his left arm and punched him slowly in the face so they could take a good shot of em ,,simple as that, i know it all emin did this just to be heard and it worked pretty good. lol

I feel you should take the time out to study multiple arts for multiple years if you want to call yourself an MMa fighter. Studying under the grandmother's nephew's brother's cousin of one of the Gracie holds no weight! Every art has it's weaknesses and strengths. You have to be enough of a fighter to lessen the weaknesses.

Whatever on the video. It's like this anybody can learn an art, I studied WC for years, Tae Kwon Do for years and have over 100 boxing matches under my belt. It's the person not the art. If you are a PUSSY then you will still be a pussy that knows an art. I've seen WC people get their ass whipped, Tae Kwon Do people get their ass whipped and so on. I can't judge the art because of a video or videos. MMA is watered down also. Mma is filled with guys that studied one art and crashed coursed every

@Ljenkins9000 There is a lot of debate in the wc community over which teacher and version is better. First off there is a big difference in the philosophies and knowledge behind training to be a wc practitioner. One thing most of them believing that you should be soft with your movements and focus on proper angles. Angles are important but when u see people train in mma they not only focus on technique but power and endurance as well. Most wc practitioners dont focus on power and conditioning

I guarantee probably every tape you see are people who don't focus on power. Back in the day when people trained in kung fu they would have the student throw 1k punches a day for 1-2 yrs. Then another strike 1k times a day for 1-2 yrs. Then kicks1k times a day for 1-2yrs. People arent dedicated today. They want technique right away and lose cuz of it

How about if someone snuck up and hit him from behind and started the filming after he was off balance and on the ground? Would that be cool?

This video is the greatest farce of modern Wing Chun history made by a COWARD Emin Boztepe! What the video doesn't show is Boztepe was pestering Sifu Cheung, who was teaching a seminar. Sifu Cheung asked Boxtepe to not disturb the seminar and proceeds to walk away when Bozetepe attacks Cheung from behind and that's when the filming starts. Oh what a coincidence! Additionally, what the film doesn't show is that Sifu Cheung got up, UNBLOODIED and finished off the seminar.

This was not a real fight. It's by a hoodlum seeking publicity by a surprise attack; pretty much like the Attack of the Pearl Harbor by the Jap. No respect. In martial art, you don't just learn flighting techniques, you have to lear fighting ethics, which I am sure were not even taught by this hoodlum's instructor, whoever he maybe. Very sad....
