@kgast0303 Yes, I play mostly my own arrangements for a past few years. I used to play Chet Atkins, Guy Van Duser and many others renditions before. Playing songs I like in a way I like build-up some unique skills in me, I think. Other than that, I just keep playing and having fun out of it.

I've been trying to learn this piece just as an exercise to try and improve my playing.

I'm hopelessly stuck after about 35 seconds though.

I just can't get to grips with the picking style where you pick out the melody of the song whilst retaining the sense of rhythm.

Could anyone recommend a style of guitar that I could learn that may help me with this?

Maybe I could find some way to slow the whole track right down but apart from that, I'm really stuck.

The melody lies on rhythm, so if you can keep the melody flowing, forget the bass or middle part for the section you are having trouble. You can add them later when you can keep the melody flow.
