When you unlock him, he is unlocked ^^ also if you beat him in survival as he is golden works. (Or you do all of his 3 story paths.)

to get gold beat a characters all 3 story paths

to get gold, I think you have to beat survival until you start seeing gold guys and beat the crap out of them. If you get even one, eventually the others appear if you lose after the more you play the game.
