I only have my stepdad since my Mom died about 5 years ago. My siblings live in other states, but my adult kids are nearby. They have larger homes than I, so my daughter takes Easter, my son takes Thanksgiving, his girlfriend's parents does 4th of July & her bro. gets Christmas! Families blend, stray friends w/nowhere to go all join in! Everyone brings food to share & I get to cook til my heart's content! We sometimes have up to 40 people at our gatherings! More intimate dining is lovely, too!
Wonderful system! We usually cook for Thanksgiving (I once had a spectacularly funny and splashy turkey brining accident), but we cater other parties with a rural Pennsylvania catering company that's too wonderful for words. We invite big crowds and the hired help allows us to mingle and talk with our guests without having to juggle the food, drink, or clean up. Our favorites, though, are the small and last-minute meals with friends, like we make a big pot of chicken soup, so we have to share!
This IS actually beautiful! Your parents would have probably been good friends with MY parents had they known eachother! They loved their friends and family and boy, did they love to entertain!
Linda, thanks so much for watching and sending me these nice thoughts. A whole generation was brought up on setting a beautiful table and entertaining. We still try to keep that alive; we think entertaining is particularly important during these tough times -- sharing your home and getting together with friends and family keeps the heart and spirit generous and puts the focus back on people versus things. I'm happy you have great memories of your parents, too! Happy holidays! Best, Jay
Sunny, thanks so much for watching and making such kind comments! I miss my mother and step dad so much, but treasure these video memories of them. I agree with you about the importance of being a good spouse -- and entertaining makes a home more loving, warm, and generous. Have a wonderful day, Sunny! Best, Jay

I think she is just wonderful. More women should remember to be a good wife and entertainer these days.
