Also, idk if they meant for this but it's a possibility, but chickens used in meat production are normally white. That could've been the fate of the chicken. Google 'broiler chicken'

Start a new game, right after you meet Elise/Elliot, head to the kitchen like you're supposed to. However stop a ways outside the kitchen and look around, there should be a black, charred, chicken walking away from the kitchen.
