While you are doing the color its better to us slower power configuration (just a little more than enough to run the machine to scar the skin) , which gives persistence and even tones to the tattoo. While shading its is very important to keep the machine running in a bit faster configuration than coloring so as to even out the wash on the grey.
it sounds like ur sanding down a bad paint job when ur wiping. i dont use wet rags, but i use green soap on the skin, and a n d or vasoline....u should try it sometime lol makes tattooin easier too bro. dont just color something solid...or try not to..u can do alot more than that....try going dark to light, and the dark again, or whatever just try some cool looking effects. if u need to, slow ur machine down and go with it. try making cool shaded backgrounds. it will help build yerself up
@RadOne83 Depends on the machine you are running, And what you're using it for. It looks like the person tattooing is using a round shader grouping. Which, I run at about 9 Volts. Lining, I like about 7.5 to 8 volts. It all depends on you though.
not too bad man...one things for sure dude...you got the machine tuned to turbo mode.....way too high for shading....use a lower voltage setting and angle out ur contact screw some and back it off just a tad....and it seems also like you dont have enough throw back....swing out ur a-bar and pull it up to put some more tension on that spring....you will get more consistant fills in turn giving less trauma to the skin.
@TATTOOSxBYxWILL I agree but at the same time i use rounds for anything with scales (size depending) and i feel if you know what your doing and are a professional rounds will not cause too much trauma but for newbies i wouldnt recomend a mag, cuz when someones new they like to back and forth in a stright line and cut the skin
@Alliancerecords that whole tattoo could have been done with a 13 mag. you cover more area faster with solid color packing, for the shaded areas try a curved 13 mag for soft or lost edges..only thing i hardly ever use a round shader for anymore is outlining traditional peices.. other than that i use the right tools for whatever the job calls for..add me on facebook..feel free to check out my work bellyforaneye@aol.com
who cares what other ppl say,you got to start somewhere. you never know u might find a better technik,or a diferent style. And let the haters keep Hatting!!!
looks like u are useing a liner very bad for that type of work u are tattooing on a towel can u say cross contamination bboys and ggirls.i not going o waist any more tyme saying anything else do not learn from this kids
jesus christ he is a beginner...i tattoo too and i started with a prison-like machine and now i do pretty good art-work...wore you born in a tattoo-studio or something?
hahah no just if ur going to do something do it the right way learn learn and then learn some more..i taught my self every thing i know about tattooing and did my research on the body skin graphs and stuff and learn about tattooing and med...
yes of course but maybe he does not have the money yet...i started like i told you,0 money, the ink was given to me by a friend and i hanged around tattoo shops, tattooed for free, did anything i could and now i'm good.but it wasn't always like this...maybe you are from usa,i'm from romania...not everyone has money you know?
@anotimpul5 is it good to start in prison?? Has tattooing not evolved from learning by giving people hep?? Jesus christ this isnt a standard for learning to tattoo!!
@anotimpul5 I meant hepatitis by hep. Im just saying this guy should learn a little more and tattoo on himself more before goin and shading huge portions of skin with a small needle config.
sorry mate,i was just angry. this prick comented on a video saying the artist should use a 8rl and i sayed fuck off this does not exist and he just called me stupid and shit. yes he should learn more but then again his entire life he will learn. even paul booth is learning as he goes along so...and he will not give people hep, he has a one use tip and grip if you look so...
voltage is different for a set up on a liner or a heavy mag. its the resistance of the number of needles and the size of the coils that determines voltage. a 8 layer coil has 1 ohm resistance and takes 2 volts to start but more to push a needle .
not too low but not 2 high somewhere in between . ull know when its 2 high cos the machine will sound like its in overdrive .. and ull know when its 2 low cos the machine will sound sick and spluttery . so experiment around on some grapefruits of pigs skin and find the right voltage
well the first thing u need to get is the flat shaders which can be used for filling colour and shading in a flat tone. However the best one would be the magnums which u can us for shading with nice fading finish as well as filling colour in circular strokes. cheers. enjoy tattooing.
I respect the fact that you gave some good advice instead of turn the person who asked a question down... thumbs up to you! a tattoo artist with a heart and willing to teach is hard these days.

how many volts are you running? just curious because my machine isnt that loud...or does it depend on the power supply?

@XxViolentByDesignxX Also, I forgot to add. I like a machine to run slower during the shading process.

First thing that comes to mind, CC. You have bagged machine, covered cord, which is good, but on a towel, hope you burn it.
