Wayne is "Mr. Las Vegas" My family has a history with that "crowd" ~ wish I had been old enough to be a part of it all before Vegas became a "family town."
What a great tribute to Elvis! Nice arrangement. Wayne had to put his own touch on it, because he knew that not even he could reproduce the energy and voice that Elvis had singing this song!
@quality333 Anyone that has ever read or followed Elvis should know this was his favorite song. Priscilla, even says that in one of her books. I have read it many times and I have heard him perform it live as well. He said this was his all time favorite song before he performed it at the concert.
@ethandrood I don't know where you heard that but I have read two books written by Priscilla and she mentioned that this song was his all time favorite in both books, and then Wayne also has said that, so I think that is why he did this song on the night of Elvis's death. I also saw Elvis in concert 2 times and he said before he sang this song. "This is my all time favorite song". I am sure he had many, but I just know what I have read and heard from Elvis, Priscilla and Wayne,
@ethandrood , As I said, I have been to 3 or 4 concerts and Elvis always did this song and said this was his all time favorite. I am sure he had many!! Also, Wayne was a very good friend of Wayne's and he chose this song on the night of Elvis's death to do, so I am sure he knew it was Elvis's favorite as well.
Have a great week. It's Now or Never, and many, many of Elvis's songs are my favorites.....
@juan58102 Thank you for the nice compliment. I did see Elvis several times, but I have been going to see Wayne for over 32 years. He is an awesome entertainer and a very dear friend! He is an American Icon, and the nicest person you could ever meet. He is and always will be "Mr. Las Vegas."
Kudo's to Wayne for performing this. Wayne's version is his style and certainly a befitting tribute to the King, but the SONG cannot be matched by anyone in terms of the delivery or passion of Elvis.
Too bad Wayne can't carry a tune anymore. I saw him in Vegas a few years ago and he more talked the songs instead of singing them. That being said he still put on a hell of a show. Over two hours. I also met him and he was a great guy. People still go to see him because of who he is, not because he can sing like he used to.
hopefully you will. i had a chance to see him live when he sang during the last Dancing with the Stars tour. i must say, it's pretty awesome to be able to say that i've seen Mr. Las Vegas perform live.
what a beautiful song---I love Wayne Newton but Elvis's version gives me goosebumps, but it would be like if Elvis sang one of Wayne's songs---when you are used to the original singer you tend to like it better : )
His intent was not to "do Elvis" but to do a tribute to Elvis...Newton has class, and this was a very classy thing to do!

@47Brenda47 Here here! And also, Wayne's version is somewhat different than Elvis'. Awesome clip here....more please? :)

Elvis had a much greater vocal range than Wayne Newton. It's quite nicely sung but you can't compare it to Elvis' version.

60's Wayne Newton could have matched Elvis better.
