@healthyaddixion yesyes of course! it was amazing. but igot the understudy of the replacement of linman which was disappointing but it was still fabuuulous
I was originally opposed to seeing this (partly because I can't stand a lot of hip-hop on the radio), but when I saw it w/ my hs band I absolutely LOVED it. 96,000 is one of my fave theatre songs ever.
I believe that is defnitely an opinion. a wrong one... but one nonetheless :D Fucking Love this musical though. Seen it on my chorus strip to new york :D So. Amazing.
In the Heights is amazing. I travelled to NY just to see it in January and I plan to travel back to NY in April to see it again. And I'm going to keep seeing it until it is gone.
I cant wait for the movie!! I really loved seeing this on Broadway but now I wish I could see it over and over and I cant!!! I hope the movie is good.
wow. i was watching a video about rent and they were talking about how it changed theatre and made musicals like spring awakening (my fave musical) and in the heights. so i looked this up and it s sooo cool.
thats bul this is one of the best shows ive seen showing what life is really like in new york the singers are amazing and the dancing is fresh and new but im sure you only watch mainstream reruns like CATS
See this. I saw Gypsy last night, and In The Heights today. The only good thing about Gyspy is Patti, everything else is dull and the story isn't half as well told as it was in the 2003 production with Bernadette Peters. Laura Benanti did not deserve that Tony. Anyway, In The Heights is the best show I have ever seen, and I've seen over 30 shows. I'd say it's better than Spring Awakening, I'm just like completely amazed.
I agree with everything you said! Im trying to convince my mom to see it in New York with me, Ill die if i dont see the original cast. I freaking CRIED when they did this and won at the Tonys!!
Okay, well I agree with everything except that Laura Benanti did not deserve the Tony. I thought she was incredible....but if you mean that it should have gone to the woman who plays Abuela Claudia...then maybe I agree :-)
i hate gyspy, cause boyd gaines won featured acter, and Daniel Breaker is MUCH better acter than himyou won't bealieve me but its the truth, daniel breaker is my uncle, if you don't i wil lhapiley sen dyou a family picture to prove it!!)
We have been big broadway fans for many years and when we first heard of In The Heights I was a little skeptical about it because we only heard a few lines of the rapping and we're not big rapping fans.We took the chance and went with a friend of ours who is Puerto Rican and I will tell you this is the most incredible show you will see on Broadway for a long time.We laughed, we cried, we were salsaing in our seats.GO SEE THIS SHOW!!!!! IT'S INCREDIBLE!!!!!
I have seen this show 3 times and it keeps getting better and better. I recomend this show to everyone. I love it when they all sing together. It's amazing.
As a Latina, it's nice to see my people's stories finally be represented in musical theatre. So many of us worked our asses off to get into this country, but we get no respect b/c everyone thinks we're all aliens. Well, obviously these performers deserve respect, especially Lin! The fact that they touched this subject, used salsa music, and had Spanish felt like I was watching home on-stage. I'm going into theatre but, damn, before I never felt like I BELONGED. Not until now.
mira, as a latina in musical theatre, In The Heights is one of the most exciting musicals in a while. Its great to have my non-theatre friends listen to this and say "damn. i wanna see this!" quote un quote. i'd make a special trip to NYC to see this. CONGRATS on the TONY!!! :D
I FINALLY get to go to NYC in July and I'm going to see a Broadway show! I'm torn between seeing In the Heights or Gypsy..I'll be living close to NYC for a few months so I'll have a few opportunities to see shows. I really want to see Gypsy before Patti Lu Pone leaves...but this looks so good!
I saw this musical last saturday and I definetly recommend it. But I reccomend you buying the soundtrack before you go so you can understand it better. Sometimes it was a bit hard to understand the plot because of the accents. But trust me, it is a wonderful musical...LOVED IT!
I know,I'm a Renthead too and I'm really sad it's leaving. But I was sooooo happy when In The Heights started because Lin-Manuel said in an interview that Rent was the reason I.T.H. was here.
It's really great to see creative, innovative musicals like this and Spring Awakening being rewarded. I love traditional musicals, but it's wonderful to see people trying something new and different, and actually making great shows while doing it.
Out of all the shows I saw at the Tonys last night this one blew me away. There's always one that takes me totally by surprise, and it was definitely this one this year. I would love to see this!
you'll understand when you see the whole thing but pretty much this unlike most other musicals feels like life on stage to people who live in the city which is why its so great
I saw in the heights with my classmates from texas during our spring break in March and oh my gee...it was the best thing ever. I was so incredibly happy to see how well they performed at the tony awards and when they won best musical, I broke down in chills! The cast that I had just experienced and shook their hands during the recession, just won a TONY!!! Wow. Truly amazing. Keep up the damn good work and cannot wait to see more Lin!
Best part of the show! (along with seeing Dan Radcliffe, but that's just me)
I'm taking my dad to see this on Weds for his father's day present. He, too, emigrated from the Dominican Republic and lived in Washington Heights. Weird, huh?
