My Great grandfather was in the battle of the Somme. His advice to my Grandfather when WW2 broke out was "Go to Ireland" We were sent like lambs to the slaughter and I do not want that to happen to you. That is no disrespect just what he said

why are they useing type 99 they are not ww2 japs..............are they? and the helmets only a small amount of troops would have them i forgot the name omg why make a vid if you dont have any idea about ww1 and 2 sorry if i spell anything bad
@rainbowsoft so ya know that game has very limited options for weapons and characters so he really didnt have much of a choice, i have that game so i know what its like.
@Jacko459 Bren gun wasnt introduced till the late 1930's in Britain, and it was no fail as you put it, but an effective and reliable weapon. Of course like all weapons you had to keep it clean for danger of it jamming.
The Israeli's used them frequently in the war of independence.
@MsMalaka123 Haha, you obviously don't know enough about history of weapons and what country's had what weapons and how they worked. I'm not going to explain on here, so maybe read a book or look it up on google. And I know that you have 26 thumbs up so obviously they are in the same boat as you. Hope that helped.
@MyJimmyMonster Where is your problem? Maybe I don´t know enough about history of weapons and what country´s had or how they worked, but do i need to? I don´t think so.
All I said was that the Germans seem to have Bren Machine Guns (they look like Bren or ZB vz.26 in this clip)
and half automatic Mausers.
And this beautiful clip is about WW1. The first realy working German half Automativ gun was the Gewehr 41/43 as far as I know.
But who gives a shit. War is over, we can´t make it unhappened!
not bad dude. sure the graphics arnt up to date but that doesn't make it shitty. people just don't understand how cool the older shit is. fuck ps3 and 360 i still rock out with my Atari, Nintendo and Super Nintendo.
what im trying to say is that the germans had machine guns, but this game doesnt have any ww1 german machine guns, so the person who made this video had to use the british bren to replace it.
i also remember reading that the battlefield was a nightmare of mud that sucked men under who had lost their balance or were overloaded with equipment..
And another thing, all you little twats saying "my country's better" and "My country had more deaths and therefore contributed more" stfu. Seriously, it's pissing me off a lot. How the fuck can you talk about these poor men like they're statistics and use them to win internet arguments? You're all sick fucks.
@DrDeath1020 well really the objective is to have the least amount of deaths. and there are reasons why some country did not send alot of troops. really the commonwelth and france contributed the most they stayed through the whole war they were in the trenches since 1914 the americans joined in 1917 for a year and russia bought it's way out. also germeny they had nuts they did not cause the war but they took the treaty of versisslies. read and you would see how it was not fair to them
@DrDeath1020 there are people who are boasting stuff like that? wow thats just sad. they shouldnt be doing that cause its selfish saying stuff like well my country had more men killed than yours. thats just sad.
Why are you fucktards arguing about this? The point of the comments is to comment on the video, not your own personal vendettas and telling each other off, not playing "Who's the better history buff." Which, I might add, would piss off everyone who fought and who died in this war.
As for the video, it was...different...well done, I suppose, but very interesting.
ur all rong niether one of us british canaidian american all alike cud have won the war without one another and don't just remember our deaths remember the german deaths not each one of those soldjers started it but they all fought in the same conditions with their friends diein around them yes they started it but we left it to long to retaliate and it was just theier leader not the ppl they suffered losses maybe not as great as ours but losses non the less and before you ask i am british
Nearly 60,000 British casaulties....That is what happens when 19th century minds try to fight a 20th century war. Military leaders like Haig were .totally unrealistic toward the facts. And yes no Americans were at Somme. But we did contribute in 1918. And yeah our supplies did help the war effort. Some Europeans forget and think that us fat lazy Americans did nothing. If he was alive my grandfather who saw hundreds die before his eyes at Anzio WWII would enjoy hearing that attitude..NOT!
Tomnm1 you are so right. And don't forget the French and the burden they shouldered at Verdun (although 1940 certainly did not work out for them). I just don't appreciate some non-Americans who think all we did was sell supplies and did not suffer any. We may have lost less soldiers than British or French in WW1. Whatever we did not suffer in WW1 we got in WW2. Pearl Harbor, Bataan Death March, Omaha Beach etc.
Actually, I disagree with that. In WW1, Britain was still a world superpower, with the largest navy in the world that could blockade Germany on its own, and something like 6 million troops. Even without the US (who only joined the war in 1917 with less than 500,000 men) and the Canadians (very brave but prob made up less than 10% of the total if that), Britain by far committed the most men and resources, and with France would have defeated Germany anyway.
In early 1917 3.900.000 Allied troops were deployed on the Western Front against 2.500.000 Germans there. 1.200.000 British were on the Western Front by then. But many British soldiers were fighting against Turkey and the German troops on Africa.
4. From 1st July to 18th November, 1.25 million men lost their lives at the Somme.
5.Haig slept in a chateau eating great food while his men dined on bully beef and biscuits with rats for company. His war was so much more comfortable than theirs...
A fact for all of you is that 76% of allied soldiiers who served on the somme between july and November 1916 returned without a scratch. Now of course July the first was a tragedy but without it the british army would never have learned the lessons that the French already had at Verdun so would have continued to make the same mistakes again. As for the Americans, more of you died from flu than firearms, your canadian cousins have ten times the balls AND they dont boast about it.
the americans and canadians and history remembers them as well
europe is eternally grateful for what america did for them in the second and first world war...............
americas holly fuck dont compare them to us canadians we where there ww1 and ww2 from day and one thos americas where busy selling ammo and guns to the english and canadians, we died and they where profiting then at the end of the war thay show up and clame to be the war heroes basterds
20,000 dead boys while the generals and the mad king george swigged their whiskey in velvet cushioned chairs and argued about the Boer War and Omdurman. These senile old drunks ordered the charges against the German machine guns to continue for another five monthss. 500,000 British casualties. Entire divisions destroyed.
Theoretically, you can fire any automatic weapon in a semi-automatic mode if you are able to pull and depress the trigger quickly enough. It could be achieved with the BAR.
they were told to walk because when they reached the german lines it would be mele combat and the british troops would have to run a mile uphill in churned up mud with 60 pounds of kit which is impossible
it was impossible you need to have a breather at least once not even the marines could do it so how some 16 year olds who werent well trained soldiers could do it is beyond me
if you cant run or walk how would you move across no mans land?
I'm not talking about a royal marine I'm talking about a American marine they could do it the American army makes you run 9 miles just about every day probably not back then but the marines now could I'm sure of it but I think what made those battles so deadly were the technology of the rifleman's weapon it was totally bogus a bolt action going up against a mg they needed the stens and thompsons and BAR s then you know "old chap" lol
i doubtan american marine could and a royal marine couldnt because the british army is more well trained than the american army and the royal marines are one of the best fighting forces in the world.
and bolt action rifles was all they had at the time of course they were nedded but they didnt exist
its like saying the persians should have had RPGs to stop the greeks "buddy"
Ok friend when was the last time the royal marines fought an actual battle they may bebehind the american armed forces . But anyway the thompson and bar were in production during ww1 but your army didn't adopt it actually neither did the americans chose to stick with the m1903 springfield but they were in existence vat the time . actually t the "tommy" gun was designed for clearing trenches .
kumbolo the magic walrus invented all weapons.then turned all the apricots into doubting elephant hairs.horrified at the sound of a catfish hang-gliding in saskwatchs dressing table.
Actually they were told "it will be a walk over carry your rifle like a bag" because the British artillery had bombarded the German lines for a whole week day and night and they figured noyhing could have survived it.
that is a rumor that has become fact they knew their would still be resistance hence why they were preparing grenades up to 3 hours before the advance
Ah the Somme, God's way of ridding Ireland of it's traitors, who thought it better to kill Germans for Irish freedom instead of the English who terrorised us for centuries.
These men of all faiths and cultures, helped shape Britain into the great land that it is today, god bless those that paid the ultimate sacrifice, at the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them...LEST WE FORGET
Stupidest part of that failure of a battle plan was telling them to walk it, many more could have lived on our side (unfortunatly i suspect many more german lives would have been lost) if they had ran or taken it at some pace, the germans where able to reoccupie there machine gun nests very quickly.
In Germany we have a saying:
Friend and foe, united in death. This video proofs it. I have changed my mind, as until now i didnt expect a video like this form "the other side".

Good Film, i like it but 28 000 British died and Not 20000. And only 2000 Germans ;)
Well historically wrong is the Hellmets. the Germans at Somme already wore the m16 stahlhelm ( the helmet from ww2...)
The ,,Pickelhaube" was out of use since 1915 cause it was leather and did Not Protect very well.. However cool Video, greetings from Germany
xyvvz 7 months ago
@xyvvz Actually, most of 1915 had use of the Picklehaube. Hence the "m16" Stalhelm, and not "M15".

This is very good and moving.
All them lives wasted for the European Royalty who were all related to each other who wined and dined in their Palaces while this went on.

I would have stopped the attack when i saw the results of the first hour.
Should have went back bombarded bit more and wait for the Germans to crawl out first.
SouthUkraine 3 years ago
They bombarded the German positions for a week, another hour of bombardment wouldn't help.

There were no semi-automatic rifles in world war I
corinthian93 3 years ago
towards the end their were like the BAR
britishpatriot01 3 years ago
The BAR is not a semi-automatic weapon.
RudolfMaister 3 years ago
i know but it was the closest thing to a semi auto
britishpatriot01 3 years ago
Theoretically, you can fire any automatic weapon in a semi-automatic mode if you are able to pull and depress the trigger quickly enough. It could be achieved with the BAR.

Cool :)

Attacktt 3 years ago
hmm after seeing all that artillery, etc I wouldn't command my men to WALK through no man's land
cool film though
saxophoneftw 3 years ago
they were told to walk because when they reached the german lines it would be mele combat and the british troops would have to run a mile uphill in churned up mud with 60 pounds of kit which is impossible
britishpatriot01 3 years ago
not impossible, just very difficult, although I do understand what you're trying to say.
I'm just saying if a place has been zeroed don't calmly walk. XD
saxophoneftw 3 years ago
it was impossible you need to have a breather at least once not even the marines could do it so how some 16 year olds who werent well trained soldiers could do it is beyond me
if you cant run or walk how would you move across no mans land?
britishpatriot01 3 years ago
Marines could do it they even the army has you run about nine miles with a 90 pound rucksack so yes they could.
kingkilla133 3 years ago
they couldnt a royal marine officer has said their is no way they would be able to run that and fight a battle after.
and its 2 miles the army makes you run but you have to run it in 12 mintes
britishpatriot01 3 years ago
I'm not talking about a royal marine I'm talking about a American marine they could do it the American army makes you run 9 miles just about every day probably not back then but the marines now could I'm sure of it but I think what made those battles so deadly were the technology of the rifleman's weapon it was totally bogus a bolt action going up against a mg they needed the stens and thompsons and BAR s then you know "old chap" lol
kingkilla133 3 years ago
i doubtan american marine could and a royal marine couldnt because the british army is more well trained than the american army and the royal marines are one of the best fighting forces in the world.
and bolt action rifles was all they had at the time of course they were nedded but they didnt exist
its like saying the persians should have had RPGs to stop the greeks "buddy"
britishpatriot01 3 years ago
Ok friend when was the last time the royal marines fought an actual battle they may bebehind the american armed forces . But anyway the thompson and bar were in production during ww1 but your army didn't adopt it actually neither did the americans chose to stick with the m1903 springfield but they were in existence vat the time . actually t the "tommy" gun was designed for clearing trenches .
kingkilla133 3 years ago
probably at some point todaywas their last battlefor they are fighting the taliban.
the thompson and BAR were invented after the somme
britishpatriot01 3 years ago

im not that arsed lad
britishpatriot01 3 years ago
Actually they were told "it will be a walk over carry your rifle like a bag" because the British artillery had bombarded the German lines for a whole week day and night and they figured noyhing could have survived it.
kingkilla133 3 years ago
that is a rumor that has become fact they knew their would still be resistance hence why they were preparing grenades up to 3 hours before the advance
britishpatriot01 3 years ago

Ah the Somme, God's way of ridding Ireland of it's traitors, who thought it better to kill Germans for Irish freedom instead of the English who terrorised us for centuries.

Stupidest part of that failure of a battle plan was telling them to walk it, many more could have lived on our side (unfortunatly i suspect many more german lives would have been lost) if they had ran or taken it at some pace, the germans where able to reoccupie there machine gun nests very quickly.
