  • nice video looks great

  • @repodevil Thanks!

  • Rickbrendan - have you ever thought of selling any...

  • @carzmine9 Yes, I sometimes recondition Solexes and sell them.

  • @Rickbrendan nice !!!

  • Thanks, how many Velosolex's do you own ?

  • @carzmine9 I own about 25. Most of the Solexes in my videos belong to customers...I repair and recondition Solexes and Solex engines.

  • But don't you have to lift the black 'lever'

  • @carzmine9 Only when you want to ride the Solex as a bicycle.

  • is it a push start?

  • @Tvmonster666 You can either push it or pedal it to start the engine.

  • Just saw my first solex yesterday, was hanging in a friends storage shed. I feel in love with it. I have an old Harley m50 and an old NSU. Love these old bikes

  • @chip4084 Try a Solex! But be careful...they're addicting!

  • ça fait du bien de voire nos solex de l'autre côté de l'océan

  • I have a Solex too. On my engine is written 3800. The frame looks exactly like yours. What's the difference betwenn the 3800 and 4600?

  • The Cyclomoteur 3800 engine was used on not only the S 3800, but also on the 4600, the 5000 and the Micron. i.e. there is no Cyclomoteur 4600 engine, no Cyclomoteur 5000 engine and no Cyclomoteur Micron engine. So you cannot determine the model by what is written on the engine. If you send me a photo of your Solex, I can tell you exactly what you have.

  • This is really neat. I've never heard of Solex before. I'd love to try one. Do you know if there's any place that rents them in NYC?

  • Unfortunately, the insurance is very expensive, and so scoooters and such are not usually rented in NYC. You can try one at Vintage Signage on Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn. He has some for sale.

  • Thanks for the speedy reply! I will check out Vintage Signage. I wonder if the owner has any glass balls for sale?

  • What is actually the difference between an orange Solex 5000 (like mine) and an orange Solex 4600 (like this one)?

they really almost look the same to me!

Is the size of the wheels different?

are these 19'' wheels? like on the 3800...

    are there other differences?

  • Yes, that's correct...the 5000 has 16" wheels and the 4600 (except the Dutch model), like the 3800, has 19" wheels. The frame pieces are therefore also different between the 5000 and the 3800/4600 and are not interchangeable. This 4600 V1 has the same magneto as your 5000, but the 4600 V2 and V3 versions have a different magneto. I'd be happy to answer any Solex questions that you might have. Please check out my 4600 website, the link for which can be found in the description of this video.

  • Nice work!

I've got a 5000 in orange too, engine's all done, just waiting for the paint to arrive then I'll strip it all down. Your chromework is significantly nicer than mine - mine peeled off years ago - thinking of buffing allthe once chromed steel down and covering it in flat black.

  • Thanks! Please post a video of your 5000 when it's finished. Where are you located? I'm in NY.
