I'd love to know if we looked after our disabled very well before we hooked up with dogs! My theory is probably not, until we started living with dogs. Unlike humans they don't let "spirituality" or "religion" guide their actions. This makes them more "humane" on at least that count.

@MichelleTwinky you're the idiot. first of all, this video is originally from a tv program about the dangers that feral dogs in chile pose to highway traffic, and had nothing to do with dog heroics. secondly, it is composed of several unrelated clips spliced together. in other words, there are different dogs in each clip. the only clip showing two dogs together does NOT show the "rescuer" pulling the dead dog to safety (or anywhere else). the footage is from highway cameras, no "tv crew".
