it's a strong diuretic, adds electrolytes and alkali to help with the transport of wastes (mostly acidic) out of your body. powdered leaves are extremely high in chlorophyll, minerals, iron, etc.. a plant your body recognizes- green food-
Gonna get em all outta me greenhouse on the allotment now. Cheers Nancy, no fancy just picking the tops/ using hydrators to dry them out. Much more homey and great pot rack by the way.
If they get moist they will rot. You have to keep them in a dry jar with a tight lid. If you only put away in the ar what is completely dry and keep it out of direct sunlight, they will keep for years. They'll lose their strength after a year, though.
Nancy......who taught you to be such a pioneer woman. You know so much about so many things. I am learning so much from you. Thank you for your videos!
You're welcome. I am just so curious. I have always wanted to live in nature. I decided the other year I'd learn all the birds and their calls, then the next I learned all the dragonflies, the next I collected 150 monarch eggs and raised them. I want to know every ind of plant and tree and what they are all god for. I don't now why, though! bg!

When is it safe to harvest these? I read at some point they're no longer good or if they start to have large leaves they're no longer good.

@LostInAMimeBox I don't know what 'they' say, but I harvest them whenever I get to it!

I love the concept of studying something new for one year each year.
I see you truly love life, and that's how God intended to be.
To get closer to our diviness we must get closer to nature.

At what point are the nettles safe to handle? An hour after they are picked, a day, a week?

Wow, that's great! So the dried nettles don't sting you...didn't know that. What all can you do with nettles in food?
BTW, I love your pot rack! Very cool!
arcusdog 3 years ago
I just drop them into stews by the handful. You can conceal them in foods if they don't taste that great on their own.
