  • i had an mg midget one time...with no title....had to sell it....it was a lovely car.....

  • @freeman2545 they could corner pretty darn good. thanks for taking the time to listen, chuck.

  • Hi Chuck the MG was an excellent car and they don't make them like that anymore Pretty much like yourself my friend You are a One off and God broke the Mould this is another excellent Story.

Bless you and a big Five

  • @nidgetucker hi there nidge. i'm so pleased if you like this one. it sure brought back some fine memories for me during the writing of it. be well friend, chuck.

  • Like the intro. great guitar work. Nice lyrics and voice. Well done Chuck.

  • Hi Chuck - Great song, one of your best. Words and music work together seamlessly. I'm especially fond of the metaphysical aspects of the lyrics, which flow easily through a story that most can identify with. Bravo.

  • hi there bobby, real nice to hear from you. i appreciate and value your opinion, especially as you are one of my own favorite writers, right up there with the likes of paul simon, and byron walker and such. hope to see you monday but might not happen if roads are bad. be well and happy, chuck.

  • Hi Chuck lovely little story here my friend and again your guitar work is excellent. I would so love an open top MG maybe some day! Great start to the new year, all the best

    Dave

  • hi dave, thanks for taking the time to listen. it's funny though how life changes some of us thru the years. don't get me wrong, i very much like my career as a roofing contractor, but it absolutely leaves me no free time (except winter of course) for just pleasure driving on winding roads. now....if i could afford an mg with chrome ladder racks and a 32 feet ladder, that might be the ticket. be well, and hello to your own fine son, chuck.

  • Like the production here. The open chords and picking are quite lovely as well. The changes are pretty interesting, really out there in places, not predictable at all. The reflective mood suits the music perfectly.

  • hi pete, welcome back! the unusual chords i play thru the verses are a progression i came up with at least 25 years ago, but until now, never had a lyric to go with it. probably because i was locked into too much standard 1-4-5 progressions due to my folk music back ground. lately i have been trying to learn a few new things and take a couple music lessons when time and fortune permit. would love to know even a fraction of that mark, the instructor knows. be well friend, chuck.

  • Very nice Chuck! I sure do relate. My good friend Hal and I were Seniors in High School and Hal's brother (Casey) had a fire engine red MG and I remember when he would take me for a ride, our shoulder length hair flying in the wind, I felt as though I hadn't a care in the world! I can still picture Casey looking at me with this goofy smile on his face - that said: this is it! This is as good as it gets! Ah, yes we were going to change the world - "it's universal history" for sure!!

    Craig

  • @craggery hi craig. you described it just right. those were really great times, be well friend, chuck.

  • Hi Chuck, that was very interesting to listen. Great guitar playing and chord changes.

    Happy New Year from Anette!

  • @TanteA thanks anette. hope you also had a fine, safe, new years. be well, chuck.

  • Great lyrics as usual. Really liked the guitar part too.

  • hi byron, thanks for listening, be well friend, chuck.

  • Hey Chuck, happy holidays. I enjoyed the tune, thanks for sharing.

  • hi charlie, thanks for the visit. hope you and the family are doing great, be well, chuck.

  • Nice picking, loved the tune- great job

  • thanks frankie, watched a couple of yours and am pleased to subscribe. keep up the fine songwriting, chuck.

  • Always enjoy the details you put in your songs Chux. Such a masterful storyteller. This one is of course no exception. ~ Raz

  • hi raz. thanks for taking the time to listen, i appreciate it, hope you and your family had a wonderful christmas together, chuck.

  • The lyrics of this song tell such a nice story of young memory and how it felt to have the feeling of freedom of the open road. I only had a Fiat Uno when I passed my test, but what a feeling it was to be set free, man, I pushed that thing sometimes (probably why the engine died twice on me haha).

  • hi michael. thanks for listening and sharing your experience. enjoy the trip, chuck.

  • Another really fine song here, Chuck; I think using the sports car as a symbol of all that it means to be young and carefree works really well, and I love the finger-picking!

I never rode in an MGA but I once got a ride in an even older MG sports car built in about 1936. Sitiing in it, you were so close to the ground that the sensation of speed was breathtaking, even at 40mph! It was a real thrill.

    Every good wish,

    Paddy

  • hi paddy. i know what you mean, those low sports cars are fun in the curves. in '68 or 69 i wanted to buy an austin healy 3000. my first wife and her parents made a negative fuss about it, i let them talk me into a VW wagon. that was the last year the heally was imported to the us. one of life's little regrets, be well, chuck.

  • I guess my fondness for my ol' 1988 Ford Festiva L (hence, Festival) doesn't quite fit here... but it was a pretty good car for what was supposed to be a cheap "throw-away". I got 11 years and 230,000 miles out of it!

MG's were cool when I was a teen in Germany... and life continues to amaze!

    Great song, Chuck!

  • hi scott. i am very happy to hear you say that life continues to amaze. my wife, who is the smart one of our union, told me today, try not to get into the rut of only writing about the good old days, life still has good times ahead. she's right of course, even if i do go to bed as early as seven some evenings. thought that day would never come. used to burn the candle at both ends with frenzy and enthusiasm. thanks for listening, chuck.

  • Yes, Chuck - Bed at 7 is ONE of those amazing things! Just roll with the punches, I guess!

  • I enjoyed that car as well, whe they came out with the TR7 (the slice of cheese car), I kinda tuned out- nice composition

  • hi brad. yeah, that one was the TR7 triumph. big turn off to us all. thanks for listening, be well, chuck.

  • This is a really fine song Chuck. It is my favorite of yours to date. I only wish I had a car like that.... I had a Gremlin man, haha. -Ron

  • hi ron, the gremlin was a good example of the power of advertising. you beat me though. i had no car at all 'till i got married. the MG belonged to friend bob armstrong. when i first got married and was in air force basic training. my wife wrote me "i just came from the doctor's office. I have a surprise for you". i of course thought she was pregnant. no, she had simply bought a used ford on the way home from doctor. i told all my buddies i was to have a baby. be well, chuck.

  • Yeah!!! It sure would be nice to be able to downshift and speed off into the night, but I'm afraid I'd blow out my rearend gears!!!

  • hi trsev, i know what you mean, but that is nature's way i guess. like the old saying goes "my get up and go got up and went". not that bad yet i hope, be well, chuck.

  • What a great song, Chuck......I am going to pass this one along to hubby. For years, he had a candy apple red, 1972 MG convertible....he had the car for almost 30 years before he finally parted with it...some very interesting tales can be told about that car. I loved the car too...when I first started dating him, he had that car.

Your song message hits home too...time sure does fly. I remember when we drove the MG, we felt young all over again though. Gonna favorite this one.

    Janet

  • @onewomanandsomesongsjanet, so nice to hear from you. i am really happy for you and your husband to have had those special times together. "youth" and "carefree" just seem to go together sometimes. i remember one night in the sixties, five us us decided after a bit of wine that we should drive all night to new york. we pulled into an all night diner in the village. 4 of my friends took a booth. i sat on a bar stool, the guy to my right said 'hi chuck picklesimer". he was from home! chuck.

  • isnt the truth.....What happen to our youth and free spirit??

    Great job

  • @luiedalooper hi luie, youth is fleeting. so be it. it was great while it lasted though, having the time to just cruise on winding roads 'til two in the morning if we wanted to. i miss that period when i thought i knew everything. be well luie, and the beat goes on, chuck.

  • remember when we knew everything!

And now the older I get the less I seem to know ...LOL

but yet still do not want to go back..

  • hello john, lewie, and shane (ugly folkers). very nice to hear from you. thanks for taking the time to listen and for the nice comment. hope you and yours are all doing real fine, chuck.

  • @CharmedQuarkZ99 hi richard. thanks for stopping by. continue the ride, be well, chuck.

  • wow i get the pleasure of being 1st to comment, and its a privilege to give you 5*****,great job chuck...
