i think a breakthrough in the sdk for anything would be a GUI for it. for instance, if you wanted to put a button somewhere, you create one, or they have pre-made ones, and you just drag it onto the iPhone emulator.

just a thought.....

The versions of spore for the iphone vs ds vs pc are all going to be different.. really different. No code conversion!

The only reason these developments you mentioned worked in such a small time was because they had already written a game 'core' or engine. They only needed to alter their code a little to 'fit' it onto the iphone..

The SDK is actually extremely complicated to program for, it lacks a decent IDE, and the system is extremely limited. There is little to no documentation, and as with all apple products, all classes are sealed so you have no ability to see what's going on behind the scenes.

I'm glad you have an opinion,but please refrain from speaking unless you have something to say. You have no qualification to speak on anything programming related, we can all read press releases for ourselves.

I think Steve J's departure from Apple will be sooner than you think. Given his cancer. Grim I know. I like Phil Schiller. I would like an iPhone (my current Motorola is doggy doo) but am waiting for my 18mth contract with Orange Uk ends, by which time the SDK will be more mature. david...you are kind of spotty on a lot of the details...you day the SDK is available as a public beta download right now...you are wrong - the SDK is not a beta. the beta was a private beta for enterprises to try out the new iphone 2.0 firmware.

I cannot decifer what "bharathMAX" said in repsonse to your post. here is my take - if you have bought a lot of music in iTunes you'll have to get the iPod classic b/c that music will only play on an ipod, but other than that they are pretty equal. the 80GB models are the same price, the zune has a bigger screen, fm radio, and it can wirelessly sync your music over your home network. but the ipod classic has more accessories available in the ipod world, and i think it looks cooler, it's a draw

To me Java™ is like flash

Exept for VBlog site (YouTube, DayliMotion etc.), Flash is mostly used to display wizzbang banner ad so Not having Flash is definetly not a bad thing.

Flash9 being able to load and play mp4 (MPEG-4/H264 +AAC) instead of flv (H263+MP3), It's definatly the way for real standardization (H264 being used from BluRay to desktop and cellphone : 3GP)

The SDK is all fine and jolly good, but I guess people are forgetting that Jailbreaking is still a very awesome hack for the iTouch devices. With jailbreaking, you can still change the iTouch interface and background and such. I can't wait to see how the second generation iPhone and iPod Touch are going to look.

the iphone you pay a monthly sum towards which apple receives a cut of. the ipod touch you pay once for. afaik, US law prevents apple from adding significant functionality to the ipod touch without charging for it as once you own it that's it.

Real comment this time. So from what I understand the SDK cannot be run on a windows platform. Not a very good move since many useres of the iphone also use windows, myself included. As for the availability of apps, June is a good time to release it. I hoping to see Java and Flash being supported in the future. As well as games, since the internet in your pocket thing isn't all it's cracked up to be.
