@spicegirlsfan472 one of Cobain's favorite albums was Locust Abortion Technician by Butthole Surfers. this reminds me a lot of that album as a whole. So i dont know. Maybe Cobain liked Noise and Weird music. Maybe, just maybe, Cobain would have loved this. Gotta be a little more optimistic and open-minded man.
I read a few comments about the origin of the audio well it's from a live show in NYC that they did before an actually show. At the show they played nothing but covers and unreleased material. If you search hard enough you can find a DL.
@FolkaMealaMole ill beat your ass....the ONLY song that comes close to punk with animal collective im not telling you cause i can clearly see you dont know punk

@10ccalanarkush without making a claim about which band is better, nirvana songs generally have less prominent melody then AC's newer songs =/... but good job

this is just awful. animal collective is great, but i have no idea why people like this. they are basically screeching and yelling, but it does get better towards the end. i hate to be a dick but can anyone actually break this down and find any artistic merit to this cover? i just don't get it
i absolutely didnt like this at all at first, and i never really liked nirvana either. but now even with their vocals in this song, out of tune or not, i fell in love with this song. to me this is beautiful, i guess it grew on me. and no im not some f ucking hipster either
Very experimental and avant garde song and video, haunting even. It has a sort of early 90's indie feel to it. But I still like the original song better, if only a little.
this is a really great use of video, i've searched youtube for alternative video techniques for about 2 years now and this one is way up there with capturing the feeling of the music. great job!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
if i heard just the instruments id have never guessed this was a cover of a song, let alone a good sounding one. then again, hipster acoustic music all sounds the same..
What's the origin of the audio? It sounds like AC a bit, but also kind of not...their recording style maybe? Just wondering if it's from a single B side or something.
Its hard to sound like them exactly, because its a cover of a song that doesn't flow the same as their songs usually do. But I find it does sound a great deal like Sung Tongs era AC.
What are do you mean "sounds like AC a BIT" If this doesn't sound like vintage AC, I don't know what does. If you haven't already I suggest picking up: Here Comes The Indian and Campfire Songs
I personally like this more than the original because I prefer the Animal Collective style over the slumpy-grungy Kurt Cobaine style.
Animal Collective is a very specific taste...some people "get it", some people just like to listen to it for it's crazyness and good melodies...but the rest hear nonsensical shouting.
To me, it's some of the most beautifully artistic, wonderfully composed, while remaining incredibly abstract, music that has even existed.
Seriously guys (and girls?) I don't get this at all. It sounds like a drunken jam by a bunch of guys who've only heard the original song once and weren't paying attention, plus a friend with Tourettes and a microphone.
I loved the original song, and have listened to this a couple of times just in case I'd missed something, but it really is very poor indeed.
Don't bother with the insults, just please try to explain to me in a mature way why you think this is as good as you've been commenting.
@ciw1973 Cobain also sounds like a drunk guy shouting. Just sayin'.
But seriously, if you are into Animal Collective's acoustic stuff you should understand this. If you aren't, then there isn't much to say. Like the other person stated, you either get it or you don't.
You deserve insults if you go around ignorantly asking people to explain their opinions and bashing their bands. Some people like this cover because of its energy, for instance the yelling which you interpret as abrasive is taken by others to be exciting. Do I really have to explain to you why some people like things and some don't? Maybe if you were familiar with Sung Tongs you'd enjoy this more. As far as them not paying attention to the song, it sounds like they got it down to me..?
i heard AC's cover before i heard Nirvana's. i know that it's wrong but what i shall i dooooo. the nirvana one sounds totally off when you listen to it right after this one. but that's just me.dnt hate.
