It's nice game. Not the best, but not the worst. One of good points is that it's story based on Tomorrow War book saga - one of few russian (ukrainian, to be honest) SciFi series that actually don't suck. In fact, these books are pretty decent, and if you want to read some nice sci-fi Space Opera... I believe, you can even enjoy it.

@OmegaEnvych It would be nice if a few smart script kiddies would turn this game into a free roam space/trade sim if that's even possible. It's so stupid that with a nice big open world engine like in Tomorrow War you have to follow a storyline. This game could have been good but they shouldn't have made it so linear and boring.

I kinda like games with strong storyline, and I do agreed, that this game is not that type. That is kind of problem of most russian games - they can have great potential, but, their creators just don't realize that. Only few russian games are relizing their potential and it's quite sad...

@OmegaEnvych I would suggest you to read little bit more Russian/Ukrainian writers. You would be surprised. I don't know did you heard for Stalker saga. Try to find in English or what ever language you are speak.

@Gisseares I had read some Stalker-related books, and, most of them are just huge fanfics. And their quality is not that good. Better, than "No, Joe, you are the zombies", but still - not that good.

Also, I'm russian-speaking Ukarinian, and I suck at english.

@padawan007 I did, ever since the first screenshots of Infinity were published, I've followed development. It's probably going to be the best spacesim ever. However, the game is already years in development and in the meantime I must have something else to do :-)

This game has a great free roaming engine but there isn't a freeroam mode. It sucks that they made a game with this huge an environment into a silly linear arcade shooter with boring missions. I hope modders will transform this game into a free roaming, trade/exploration sim in which you can buy & sell upgrades & different ships, trade at tradeposts, explore systems and maybe even conquer planets and build bases on them or mine them for minerals. We need a Frontier Elite game with this engine.

Agreed, the sound is kinda lame now. It would also be nice if modders made the game more open ended. I hope one the game will be freeware and they'll release it as open source like Volition did with Freespace. The engine is good enough to make a nice space explore/trade sim out of it. Right now, it's quite boring i.m.o.

Too bad lots of people have never even heard of the game.

I hope Tomorrow War won't be the only game made with this engine. I'd love to see a free roaming sandbox space game.

For a game in this time of programming, i give it a measly 3 out of 10.. Poor gfx, controls are ok once you've studied it for a few hours (sarcasm) , and there are a few bugs they need to work out. Also some missions just dont make sense, and the game doesnt give any solid clues on how to finish it properly (i've finished it). The storyline is pretty straightforward and you have little to no freedom to go about your own... Not that there is alot to go about tho..

In X-3 bigger ships get increasingly slower. But small ships are pretty fast. Also try hitting J to speed up the time.

Well, I'm not totally sure, but before the game was even released in Russia, I read a Russian preview translated with babelfish. It seems within missions you have a certain degree of freedom, i.e. you can fly away from your main objective to explore the sector but there is no real freeroam gameplay mode with trade and stuff. That sucks cause the engine would be very good for it. There is an expension called K-Factor. Maybe it allows more freedom of gameplay. We'll just have to wait and see.

I also played the game for a while. Since it was Russian, I didn't understand everything about it, but it looked to me there wasn't a real freeroam mode available. Maybe when the English version is released they have added a freeroam mode. I sure hope they do. Also maybe when the game grows in popularity it may receive some kind of cult status and maybe fans will create mods for it so a freeroam mode is possible. But that's all speculation from my part as I really don't know much about the game.

UPDATE: According to the European 1C website, Tomorrow War will now be released April 2009 instead of March 2009. Guess we'll have to wait another month but the releasedate keeps getting nearer.

To be honest, it's been a while since I played the game cause I don't understand a word of Russian. When I played it, it had "normal" aracade like controls. Maybe there's a setting somewhere to change the flightmodel but it's hard to look for it if you don't know the language. All I know is that I did like the fact planets were HUGE! And you could fly towards them and land anywhere on the surface you wanted to. I'll surely try the English version when it arrives in March 2009.

I'm sorry, but this looks very pretty with the ships so close to the planet like that. I would love to see a sim like this where you could actually get close to planetary rings and dodge the debris...

With this game you can! Planetrings really have debris that you can dodge. It's far from perfect but it's the only game that makes it possible. I hope Infinity will be even better. I also wonder what these free roaming space sims will look like 20 years in the future although the possibility exists that no new space sims will ever be released cause it's so hard to do and usually doesn't pay off because the genre isn't popular. A reason more to put my thumbs up for Tomorrow War & Infinity.

maybe it's not popular because the right balance hasn't been struck yet. I think it's still possible, but you could be right. Still, there's a lot of interest, it seems. A lot of people keep talking about Elite long after it went away. Perhaps the purity of the experience, without complicating it too much (unless the player wants to complicate it), might be the answer.

Sorry, I don't have a 360. I heard Mass Effect has some space stuff in it but it doesn't come close to being a 3d spacesimulator I'm afraid. With your old 900MHz PC, you should be able to run Elite First Encounters. That's a very nice substitute. Google for GLFFE for a OpenGL remake of that game.

I got e-mail from 2 of the programmers of this game about half a year ago. They said an English version would be made but they didn't know when it would be released. Two days ago, I read on somebody's blog website about this game. That guy said the game would be released in USA and Europe somewhere in 2007. I hope it's true.

Yeah, I hope they will release it in other countries some day. I still haven't found a language patch. I'm stuck somewhere in mission 4 cause I don't understand what to do next. It's a shame, cause it really is a goodlooking game with a brilliant space/planet/terrain engine. I hope someday the language can be changed. If not, then all my hopes are set for Infinity Quest for Earth and Elite 4.
