  • from 2:30 to 4:00 is my favorite PART of this song ... she def brought that Heat to this song

  • what a beautiful voice, one of the most amazing ive ever heard. It so sweet, yet strong

  • it's like a movie!

  • earGASM.

    just brilliant.

  • Sounds liek a movie score LOVE IT!

  • this is possibly the most beautiful thing i have ever heard!!!!!! she is incredible!

  • she sounds great

  • Discovered Janelle Monae from fun.'s "We Are Young." I think I'm in love. Seriously, goosebumps. I have them. This song and she and her brain and her soul and her music are all so beautiful.

  • Fantasticno, jednostavno fantasticno!!!!!!

  • I think it's amazing that she crafted a whole fantasy world and uses music as her choice of medium to convey it. There's a whole story behind Metropolis, Cindy Mayweather, Anthony Greendown, the Droid Control, etc. that she expresses through her songs; but what's even more amazing is that they still hold a sense of relevancy, even out of the proposed context. As cliche as it sounds, all of her songs have an apparent message that can apply to everyone in our day to day lives.

  • i didn't think i would enjoy this but it made me very very happy :D

  • OMG this is pure joy for my ears. I'm in so much peace with this song!

  • The reason so few people have heard of Janelle compared to the big names is because there are so few people who want something more than a quick, cheap thrill with their music. We, her fans, are among those who actually want something deeper in our music, and indeed, she delivers.

Not only that, but Janelle actually brings old styles BACK TO LIFE with stuff like BaBopByeYa, and gives them a new twist! Truly characteristic of the retro-futuristic style of Metropolis.

    Keep on running, Cindy!

  • @Sparx1 And just for the record, I'm not saying mainstream pop is /BAD/, it's just that I think most Indie and lesser-known artists tend to have the most talent, that's all.

  • @Sparx1 well said, and i very much agree, i think after hearing Janelle Monae its completely changed me because of how true to her music she is and how talented and amazing she is. Ive been listening to it for the past year like everyday and shes so inspirational.

  • this song is absolutely amazing.

  • She is truly underrated, I hate that I just discovered her!!!! I love her music.

  • I see a story in my mind whenever I hear this song & I luv that

It's like a luv story I wish there was a video with this so bad, like a short drama film

    This song is....FANTASTIC

  • That part after 2:50 is an eargasm.

  • Spinning my poi to this eyes closed was pure. bliss.

  • @miceskin I did that exact same thing!

  • My imagination runs wild with this song...

  • we need suite 4 janelle!

  • It's a damn shame. It sounds like there was so much effort put into this music and it just sits in the shadows of these garbage pop acts. Smh, the fuck's wrong with the world man?

  • @MisterBankz

If you think about it, although you may think this isn't popular, it is. Compare this to the millions of other artists out there who have no label or recognition. While she may not be as big as Lady gaga, Beyonce, etc, that doesn't deny that she has talent or people don't know of her. Seriously though, would you want her to be as big as GaGa?

  • @TKDmidgit I would want her to be recognized for her talent unlike Gaga who's recognized for her style rather than her talent, but I see what you mean.

  • the music and musicians in the background and the composer and of course janelle monáe are just unreal <3

  • Is it me or does she remind you of a female Andre 3000? Unbelievable how this does not have more views....music is raw and filled with so much emotion

  • My new life mission is tho help her succed! Im bout to put her name on my back, next to my plight, and my people, and ride it to he sun!! I'll sing her praises from the highest mountaintop!! Even if you dont like her music, you cant deny that she is an enigmatic character!! You cant help but be intriuged. You need more!! She is life!!!

  • i like the picture of this video and my wife likes the sound. not really my vibe tho, but hey she likes it.

  • Great music and from somebody my age!! There's hope!!

  • BEAUTIFUL song! I can listen to it ALL day :)

  • Why is it that the most profound songs by the most talented mainstream artists are the least noticed??? Oh, for any jazz heads out there, the song title is a play on jazz pianist Thelonious Monk's tune titled, "Bye Ya", also another great tune worth looking at.

  • Michael Jackson : Best in the World in the 70's 80's 90's

Janelle Monáe : Best in the World in the 2000's 3000's ...

  • Do i hear some Dizzy Gillespie in there!

  • Ayaka xxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • Janelle Monae, Alicia Keys, and Jill Scott. You can't get any better than that.

  • amazing

  • I need something stronger than a like button for this song ...

  • 6:17 - 7:00 : Tango

  • Janelle is clearly on another level compared to other artists. This is a music high. (And no, I'm not implying getting high while listening to it.) Janelle Monae is refreshing. Her entire album INSPIRES. So much musical influences that it blows your mind..its like she's taking everything she loves about music and creating a musical and lyrical journey. I love it!

  • @neyogul904 agree totally another level...she take you on a journey...

  • Okay she wins I am truly a fan now....Her genius and ability to weave a tale of mystery while still have so many influences behind the beat is amazing! I only know one or two other Artists that can do that......Just guess.

  • Oh man! this is really a boss song! It sounds like someting for ah next James bond movie!!! I love it!!!

  • This reminds me of the movie Stormy Weather

  • Janelle is very high ranking with being one of the most influential black people under the age of 45 and over 25

  • Incredible song that combines several different genres. No mainstream artist is making music like this. Such a shame that such a great talent like Janelle is so underrated.

  • @Keezie27 because she is a true artist and singer with actual talent, and the powers that be or the higher ups behind the desks can't manipulate her or change her,

  • @Keezie27 Janelle has so more talent than Beyonce or Janet! The only one that is equal is Jill Scott!

  • Orgasm anyone?

  • @CMloveify kids use this site, come on.

  • @CMloveify YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS, i still a "little last nite on the sheets" from when i listened it

  • Simply brilliant!

  • i luvv janelle with all my heart but not more then nikki minaj

  • @SuperSpiderjam booooooo down with the minaj

  • @SuperSpiderjam anyone can do what Nikki does, Janelle on the other hand...

  • why doesn't this have a million views?

  • @HipHopwasburiedalive cause nowadays stupidity sells music, and this isn't stupid.

  • @HipHopwasburiedalive Cause a lot of (yougins mainly) go by what the radio plays only, and that's it. How sad.

  • this is realMusic..only real artistst can make dreams and emotions com alive in 1 song.

  • If I become valedictorian after graduating from college, at the end of my speech, I'm SO gonna say "I see beyond tomorrow, of this life of strife and sorrow, my freedom calls and I must go!"

  • her and bruno mars are taking over the music and fashion industry MAJOR RESPECT FOR BOTH OF THEM!

  • @LuvliBrunomars

Bruno Mars? Are we talking about the same person? :/

  • A lot of her stuff, especially this, seems the next step on from Alison Goldfrapp's standout debut album "Felt Mountain".

  • I'd listen to Janelle over Nicki Minaj any day! Janelle does music with talent and class! I don't know WHAT the hell Nicki does with music other than showing off her inflated ass and hopping all day.

  • This song is EPIC. Completely and totally EPIC.

  • She's setting a high standard for quality. I hope all will rise to the occasion. Isn't that what we've been missing?

  • Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!!! Real music!!!

  • I must go! I don't know where, but I MUST after she sings it!! LOL!

  • I LOVE IT SO MUCH.

  • One of thee GREATEST SONGS EVER MADE...I never listen to part of this song, I have to listen to it from start to finish

  • @Supachamploo08 i agree its definately worth every second

  • Definitely some Shirley Bassey & Antonio Carlos Jobim, masterful work from Janelle & the Wondaland Society.

  • The album definitely should've been nominated for more grammys!

  • @BReddTJ92 Definitely!

  • when you listen to this song, listen to it ALL OF IT.

I never did, and this is the first time.

    WOW.

  • This level of style would not play on your standard radio channel. I ceased listening to radio many years ago when I realized that most of the music that I actually enjoyed would never make it onto pop-culture radio-waves. This is dynamic music; eloquent in the truest sense of musical talent. Enjoy it for your very lives... it embodies the true nature of 'epic' and depicts nothing less than that.

  • @kunamika Yessssss! I have been waiting for Janelle to rescue us from this pop hell subculture that has taken over radio! THIS IS MUSIC!

  • bey this shit is pure classical greatness i love every minute of it non stop replay

  • They cannot sing their song themselves in the SCHWARTZ CENTER OF THE WHOLE WORLD..

  • They cannot sing their son themselves in the SCHWARTZ CENTER OF THE WHOLE WORLD..

  • .. got shivers running all through my body.. WOW!

  • @5104560711...She doesn't get air play because there is no gimmicks like sex or showing half naked body involved. She's pure talent...

  • Janelle Monae is a powerful and expressing singer.I LOVE IT

  • shes way hardr thn gaga; the only reason she doesnt gt the sam airplay is bc shes blk.

  • @5104560711 No, race has no part it in. It's the fact that 1) she hasn't gained much popularity (you don't see people getting airplay with their first song ever made) and 2) her type of music isn't popular right now. Though I wish this type of jazzy pop was popular, it isn't. Radios don't play songs people don't really know of by artists that aren't really popular.

  • @SnivelyTheGlamful I cn find so many flaws n ur argument.. buuuut it is bc shes black, its a new day, new ppl, same system doe boo, we're just more hi tek n advance with it. the ppl running the world right now r nothing, but the great n grandchildren of those who profited off the slave trade; except for now its the prison industrial complex... not trying to b negative n I wont preach, just tryna give u a little game, its still real. peace snively. ; )

  • @5104560711: You could not be more wrong. There are a plethora of artists who get airtime on the radio and they are black. I won't bother going down the list because they are so numerous. Janelle Monae doesn't get airtime because her uniqueness isn't marketable in today's industry.....it's the sad truth but the truth nonetheless.

  • @5104560711 I disagree. I believe she does not get more recognition because the intellectual are very few, and Janelle's genius masterpieces are not fully understood by the mediocre masses, which are the vast majority. I am glad that despite the distractions of the general media craze, I was able to discover this revolutionary of music artistry.

  • Where's the Love button!!!

  • This must be a single. I must hear this on the radio.

  • shes so elegant and classy. <3

  • In your hair there is a symphony, your lips a string quartet. They tell stories of the Neon Valley Street, where we first met. ♥

  • @boocoo45 smoooth bahaha

  • my god. janelle.... thank you for bringing us back and taking music forward. keep doing you

  • She a vooodoochileeee!

  • @MadouFrusciante voodoo chile like jimi hendrix?

  • This song should have been featured on some James Bond flick!! :-) Sexy and Elegant!

  • This and "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" are the only albums from 2010 that deserve my money. To get them before the end of this year is a MUST.

  • @DjKraveJa Ahaa exactly what I was thinking!! :D :D

  • ooh I like this song, very unique

  • I sometimes cant understand her brilliance...

  • i had this song on shuffle and Suite III Overture come after it, sounds amazing.

  • This is genius!

  • feels like a movie i want to see

    damn she ia so good!!!

  • Seeing her in June! Cannot wait. Neon Valley street is probably my favorite, but seeing this done live would be killer!

  • i really do love this one the best. it's like a story and there are so many different elements. it's truly amazing.

  • People just aren't ready for her sound yet. I am though (:

  • My mind went blank at the first 'babopbyeya'. I mean, I didn't think or do anything throughout the whole chorus.

  • she is an absoloute genius, dont care what anyone says

  • Everytime I hear this it reminds me of the movie "Stormy Weather"... <3 this song!

  • Masterpiece.

  • She has the loveliest voice!!!

  • I can imagine this song like a movie in my mind. Epic is the right word for this song.

  • someone in here said it sounds like a James Bond theme, totally agree :D

  • Reminiscent of a 007 theme song...

  • I did not like this song at the start like the other songs, it had to grow on me. But now, it's one of my favorites...to hell with it, I love all of her songs. To those who think that she can not sing, this is the song that shows this woman's range. Listen and be overwhelmed.

  • I wish she wasn't sooo underrated... Excuse Esperanza Imma let you finish, but Janelle Monae is the best new artist of all time!! lol Don't get me wrong I love Both of the artist alot.. I'm glad that they both got recognition.

  • if they make a new metropolis, this should be maria's dance

  • Orchestra Music + Voice of an Angle= Amazing Music

  • @jordandenim10 Voice from which angle?

  • this is epic.

  • Night - checked

    Joint - checked

    Old school car - checked

    City lights - checked

BaBopByeYa put on repeat - checked

    Fedora hat - checked

  • i want to drink fancy red wine in a swamzy wazzee restaurant. oh, and eat escargot and fried bananas ahhhhhhhhh :) while she's performing this!

  • @sundayxafternoon sounds great. hahaha i picture all of this on a yacht

  • @KebbyTheProphet really? I always picture this in a palace lol

  • I think Janelle is ahead of her time. The future of music is looking mighty bright. So how does it feel to be a pioneer Janelle Monae?

  • I love the brazilian feel to it, reminds me of growing up in Brasil.

  • @danikittie brasiliera

  • she is crazyyy in a good way! lol and i love how she is not "trying" to be different, she really is just not "trying" to be anyone but herself!

  • Comment removed

  • You can't even put her in a genre. It's crazy. This is rare.

  • I heed echos of your laughter in the corners of my mind

While I memorise each detail of your intricate design

In your hair there is a symphony

    Your lips, a string quartet

Love this part of the song

  • *is sitting quietly at desk*

*friend swivels chair around to see why I'm so silent*

*screams as she discovers my mind has been blown...*

  • it the 3rd minute i feelt like i have heard just 30 seconds..what an amazing song (:

  • Raw talent.

    Raw originality.

    Raw uhh.... SHE'S AMAZING!

  • music of the future...feels like the year 3000...love it

  • this sounds like a modern tribute to Anita Baker .. .. i looooove it!

  • other singers would be drowned by the orchestral arrangement- but not this one ! ;)

  • @ZPencILZ Not many people could pull this off. Aside from Janelle, Bjork is one of the masters in orchestral arrangements, and also the other new girl at the grammys Ezperanza Spalding.

  • i think she write all of her music...she seams like the type of artist that has the ability to do it...but dont take my word

  • Who wrote this ear candy?

  • @veronicahayworth Trey aka "Nate Wonder and Chuck Lightning I'm sure.

  • @veronicahayworth matter of fact that's Nate wonder singing backs at 3:45 I know that voice anywhere.

  • is it me...or does this song sound like it should be a James Bond theme?

  • @RaijimitsuSama101 the only reason you think that is probably that it's orchestral and uses the blues scale. most orchestral pieces don't, so when they do people tend to immediately think James Bond or at least some sort of spy-related theme, as most spy movies use orchestral pieces that make use of the blues scale.

  • @BenWiley4000 uuuh, clever.....

  • @BenWiley4000 eh, ok...it just sounds good as a action theme

  • @RaijimitsuSama101 haha, my friends and i say that all the time!! she should do the next James Bond single.

  • @RaijimitsuSama101 And believe me... as her opening number in her 'Wondaland' concert... it sure even LOOKS like one! :) It's perfect for the next James Bond movie :)

  • @RaijimitsuSama101 from the start when I heard Janelle Monae the first thing I thought was James Bond theme song.

  • This is amazing!

  • This is a true artist. THat's all I have to say.

  • it seems surreal.

    but it's so good. *----*

  • "Babopbyeya" or the classiest way to end one of the best (if not the best) album of 2010. Thanks Janelle for pushing Music forward and taking it to a whole new level :)

  • @sugarbloodsucker The Best Album of 2010!

  • Just finished listening to the whole album. Thanks for posting the whole album @soulfulbohemian I will definately be buying this album in the near future!

  • i'm so glad new music is becoming REAL MUSIC again! oh janelle monae, you are such a breath of fresh air!

  • @movoning but that's exactly her style. She was before willing to perform on broadway shows, but then she turned into the music.

  • estoy OBSESIONADA con esta cancion xD es buenissima

  • THIS WAS THE BEST SONG FOR 2010...I WISH IT FOUND RADIO SUCCESS or was put in a movie...the chanting in spanish or whatever language it is is soooooooooooooooo sexy!

  • Absolutely lovely. I am in love with this.

  • pretty much doing a better Grace Jones than Grace Jones. i love her lane.

  • reminds me of some kind of halo (game) theme or sum10

  • @MrMitchell12996 , especially 2:57- 3:11

  • this music is not weird, your heart jus has to be open for this to be called "Beautiful" <3
