All true comments. I recently published a book which I'm offering for free for a limited time titled "Get A Great Job Fast." There's a video on my page describing it, and you can currently get it for free at my website. I'm with you. I just went through the same thing in a city with 12% (probably really closer to 20%) unemployment rate. I'm actually making more money now than before I got laid off, but it's a tough economy. The book works. Hope it's a blessing for you too. Best wishes.
I see a trend happening in construction lately and that trend is: Everyone wants workers to settle for less and less, work longer for less pay, take cuts in benefits, and even unions are turning their head the other way. There is a booming demand to maintain infastructure, but only if your willing to work for cheap.
Soon, I see entire brigades of mexicans/chinese being IMPORTED to do the work since you cant EXPORT building a road or building.
I was out of work for more than a year so I know exactly how it feels especially when you have a college education, tons of experience under your belt, and you've applied to hundreds of jobs (all types of jobs).
best thing is go back to school and study something that will always be in demand such as doctors, nurses, teachers, etc.
You obese US Consumers... You wanted the cheap Chinese products, the cheap computers, the cheap clothes, the cheap fattening foods. And you got it all! Now deal with it or lose some weight and go fight in the middle east.
Forget all service sector jobs that require very minimal skills like using ms word, answering the phone and using excel. All of these jobs that can be done via email or over the phone are gone to cheaper countries and what's left will go real soon. I don't blame companies. After all cutting costs and keeping profits up is the heart of capitalism?
new world order wants you homeless and hungry. This is all happening on purpose. U.S. economy planned depression. Wake up people! Start researching this!!!!
its just an excuse that employers give. They dont want to pay you for what you are worth. Hence, if you overqualified, your too expensive for the job they need
He's valued more than what jobs/careers have to offer so, in order for him to get a job/career, he needs to settle for less. Settling for less is him being a college grad and getting a bus boy job or a job flipping burgers but, any company can get a dropout/immigrant to do that same job for even less. The cycle is perpetual. Do you get it now?
Overqualification - Translation - You know to much and your an expert in your field. That makes you a threat to the foreman/supervisor. That person does not want to hire someone capable of taking there job. So they hire a young person and train them. If after so many years that young person becomes highly skilled they are laid off or fired.

There is no question the people in Washington D. C are working hard. The question is who are they working for?

BlackMask2012, even if a person's resume is good, you still would not hire him or her.

??? I am not understanding what you are trying to say and why the name calling?
You can't express your miniscule feelings without attempting to make someone else's opinion feel as pathetic as your own?
And for the record. Im not predjudiced to or against any group in any way. It's obvious that you're just an idiot acting like you know everything.
Go back to school and learn something please and then maybe I won't have to treat you like I'm talking to a retarded 3 year old. OK?

Well heres a youtube surprise-IM SORRY. I just read through your comment again and I misread it. But I'm certainly not retarded.
