Because the potency of LSD is determined more or less by the chemist. Although the tools used in LSD production are less advanced than today's, they did a more than adequate job, as millions of hippies can attest to.

Additionally, the standard dose overtime dropped from about three tabs in the 60s to one today.

Any drug that is potent enough to be effectively placed on blotter paper [~150-500 mcg. on .25" x .25" square] and cause neurological effects is professionally manufactured [ie. pharma grade.] You'd be surprised to know it, but a good majority of the LSD around is left over from the 60's. So just consider that the next time you drop blotter, you're more than likely dropping pharma grade stuff that has been freeze dried for about 40-50 years or longer.

LSD is a very fragile molecule in comparison with many other chemicals... it has to be stored in perfect conditions to last that long, for sure. LSD will degrade rapidly upon any sustained contact with moisture, bright light, and even just overexposure to the air.

If proper precautions are taken, what you say is certainly possible... but I would not say a "good majority" of LSD around today was made in the 60's

The first 'batch' of Lysergic acid was developed 'accidentally' in 1938 by Dr. Albert Hoffman of Sandoz Labs, after his first 'accidental experiment', the LSD sat in a vile at the lab for about 8 years as Hoffman recounts in 'LSD my problem child' (Dr. Hoffmans book) He then took 200mcg and its effects were as strong as they were prior.
