@RichardElden Why should he? and besides his accent is Welsh. America is not an Island and a world unto itself that all movies have to have actors with american accents..Christ, I've rseen eligous movies with 'Jesus' talking in an American accent but I'm not going to burst a blood vessel over it as long as artistically it is authentic!
From 1 minutes 47 sec.. a perfect performance and insight into the deep, intense and troubled relationship George and Martha have. True Love wth Scars...the worst kind!!!
I hope you all appreciated this performance when she was alive and aren't just posting this high praise because she's gone. I always thought she gave the best performance by an actress here...or atleast top 5.
Elizabeth turned this powerful role into something out of Shakespeare...Beyond brilliant and the Academy got it right...save for not awarding Richard Burton the Best Oscar Actor for his performance.
She is a force of nature. She put on about, what, 50 pounds, for this, and it sits really well on her. So lovely, even when she is doing her best, and it is pretty good, to be ugly.
Seems like all the luminary members of that Golden Age of Hollywood are gone.
Met Miss Taylor in Spago's restaurant in 1987. She made me feel like I knew her and we were good friends. And for one hallucinagenic moment it seemed like we were. It's a worn cliche to say it but I will anyway --- "She had the most unearthly beautiful eyes and face". Age and Illness should be sentenced to death for what they did to her.
And who says Elizabeth couldn't act?
