  • I really liked the way Fringe dealt with this. It's a complicated, messy, painful situation for both of them and both actors do a superb job of conveying that. You can feel Peter's pain and guilt and shame (and how he's holding back because he knows Olivia needs to grieve) and Olivia's utter raw feeling of betrayal in their performances. Peter's belief that Altlivia was his Olivia and Olivia's complete breakdown are both so believable and realistic. What a fantastic (painful!) show.

  • thumbs up if tv.com review, brought you here

  • @cru182 yep

  • u kno that was like the most realistic reaction of someone who had been replaced. awesome

  • @cherrylipstick87 forget fringe, Best scenes in TV ever!

  • @MayBrainLee1 Just Shut Up!

    For your own sake

  • Should have been at least nominated for an Emmy with this scene alone. Stupid voters.

  • I used to hate Peter because of this. He didn't see through that AltLivia. And now ss 4 frustrates me that the producers are breaking them up again after Olivia forgave Peter and they got together. Come on!!!!!!!

  • This is yet another reason why season 4 is bugging me. We went through all of this with Olivia, her suffering, and then went through everything in the second half of season 3 involving them coming back together...ONLY to now be watching Peter unable to get to her.

We've already been through this before...

  • "She wasn't me...How could you not see that ?" This sentence made me cry. I'm glad she finally let it out. I also would have felt this way you know, "I understand the facts", it should make sense but my heart just can't accept that.

  • taken out of contex i can see that MABYE some might see this as overacting (idots) but when u consider the 2 previous scenes (also extremly well done by miss torv) in this episode witch led to this scene where olive final just lets it out to peter......... it is FLAWLESS anna torv is officaly my fav actress

  • this scene anna takes this to a whole new level man. OMG i love this show

  • Anna Torv did a GREAT job here.So did the writers. They showed us that, despite everything,Olivia is a human being. And even though she understands why Peter didn't notice it was Alt!Livia, she still wanted him to.Selfish?Maybe, but everyone is a bit selfish, and Olivia is no exception. She was replaced by a girl who was nothing like her,and nobody, not even Peter, could tell the difference.Like nobody knew or loved her enough to realize she wasn't there. That's gotta be frustrating,at least.

  • In this scene, I think Peter finally understands why Walter stole him, and why it drove him insane. From this episode on, Peter does more and more with Walter, slowly rebuilding their relationship back up. It was an incredible episode, one of Fringe's best. One of Anna Torv's greatest performances. Emmy worthy!

  • Heavy scene.

  • i love this scene! so beautifully written and acted by anna...all her built up emotion came out and it felt perfect....it wasnt too much nor did it seem like she was overreacting.....after all shes been through i feel like she deserved to vent....prob the first time to see her truly emotional.....i watched all three seasons in a week and this scene is truly one of my favs....cant wait for next season!

  • Amazing scene just amazing....... For me this is the best scene in season 3.

  • God I love this scene!

  • I hope Anna Torv gets at least an Emmy nomination for this!

  • "She wasn't me. How could you not see that?"

This line just gets me. It's so beautifully written and Anna says it perfectly.

  • watch this vid then immediately watch their last scene from 3x21 it's amazing to see how they endured and came back stronger than ever!! Olivia x Peter always!!

  • yeah, I think so too. For some reason it seems to me that he even has more chemistry with her (even though I know the actor is the same)

  • Even I havent watched any episode of season 3, I dont really like AltLivia :P

  • ohhhhh shit!!!... spoiler alert? XD.. i just wanted to know if i watched this episode!.. now i know 2 things.. i didn't watch it... and i know how it ends! XD.. great scene BTW!:.. :P

and yeaaah... i read it said end scene! u.u.. little too late!.. damm you fast 6mb connection!!..

  • JJ Abrams screenplay writers are awesome. Their knowledge of human psychology is so deep... This is a typical male/female different sensitivity interaction: she's annoyed because he didn't understand that it wasn't her, a woman would have felt it, but he's a man, he couldn't. He just noticed changes, but he couldn't suspect Altivia 'cause we males are too rational, we don't notice significative emotional details as women usually do.

  • yes i believe that they r both victims, even though peter had it easier, but she shouldnt blame him., and he shouldnt blame altivia. walternate was behind the switching order between altivia and olivia..and altivia was just following orders, she believes that there really is a war between the two universes, and developed real feeling for peter during the assignment. but still im glad peter is letting her take it out on him, he wants her to feel better,

  • I began crying.

  • Heart- wrenching, absolutely heart-wrenching

  • This scene is heart breaking, specially when he whispers "I'm sorry" after she left

  • Besides the constipation residing in her forehead, yes- she's not too bad.

  • Peter's face at the end is heartbreaking. Poor baby. :(

  • Too sad. She is being hurted again. I love her. Even if I love this couple, watching this scene I thouthg that Peter does not deserve her. She was loyal.

    Sorry because of my english.

  • there's never an episode of fringe that fails to make me cry a little bit...and at 1:28 the expression on her face is so sad :(

  • does anyone feel eerie about the last shot with the chairs? theres a chair facing peter and it's like the presence of the other olivia

  • @priscilla280 I never thought of that, but I think you're right

well done. Oh it makes even harder now

  • Yeah maybe he should've notice it wasn't her, but she isn't the most talkative person out there and neither is he, and if they weren't so closed with each other he could have notice it wasn't her. They just don't know each other completely.

    /end meaningless rant.

  • Noooooooooooo i cant believed it!!! Olivia is right, i mean how could Peter not see that she wasnt olivia???? if he loved her, he must to know that, just looking her eyes...the pain of Olivia is so deep...:(

  • @natigoma I totally agree with you

  • there's nothing he can say to make her pain go away because he caused it and Peter knows that....that is what is so tragic about it....they will get 'back' together eventually but right know all they feel know is pain

  • I actually like Peter's reaction to Olivia's unheaval. It's truer to his character. He's always been this stoic, poker-faced, internally emotional man. It's part of what made him a great con-man, he hardly ever gives away what he's truly feeling.

Having said that, you can tell he's upset by what Olivia says, that he feels horrible for her about the sitaution. It's just not obvious. You have to look for his "tells". The way he breaths, the way he looks at her, the way he doesn't, etc.

  • I cry everytime I see this. Anna really did an amazing job. I love how Peter doesn't try to interrupt or argue, he knows that there is really nothing he can say or do. It's all so tragic.

  • Oh gawd... this scene BREAKS MY HEART. I can't stop crying... I don't ever get so emotional, but this.... this KILLS ME. ;_;

  • Peter did see differences, like how she was faster to smile, but maybe he thought he was doing those things, making her happier. He thought she had changed. And Olivia tried to forgive Peter, tried to suppress the fact that she was just not ok with it, but she just isn't ok with it. It's not rational, it doesn't make sense, but she loved him when he shouldn't be real, and she can't forget that he didn't realize that the person he was sleeping with, having a relationship with, wasn't even her.

  • In my opinion, Olivia was the victim here. I mean, if you really love somebody then you should know her well even if the other one has the exact same face and body. If you really love someone then you'll know. Peter ignored the signs because even though the back of his head was screaming "THAT NOT OLIVIA" he ignored it and played into Alt-olivia's hand willingly while Olivia suffered at the alternate universe. tsk tsk bad Peter

  • @01adrenaline01 Right cause Peter knew about the switch :/. Hate, hate, hate, that's all Peter gets.

  • thing is peter was catching on but afteraltlivia slept with him she distracted him from looking anymore

  • @Suliet005 that will do it alright

  • i saw this video like a hundred times now... can synchronize every single word. definitely need some new stuff :) can't wait for jan 21.!

  • best scene ever! anna torv were amazing in this scene. It made me cried :(

  • Anna Torv definitely needs Emmy for this.

  • I'm struggling whether I should "like" it or not!

On one hand this scene is brilliantly done by Anna Torv. On the other hand, this is just tragic! To an extent I hate it so much that I'll have to dislike it!

  • Until Fringe, I never exactly got my emotions evoked by a television show and for years I've been watching it with a passion...but this scene was so sad a heart-wrenching, and it honestly almost brought a tear to my eye. I really, really hope that Olivia forgives Peter someday.

  • I've heard alot of talk on this site and others about how Olivia overreacted about this whole situation and how Fauxlivia was essentially as Olivia but guess what SHE WAS NOT THE SAME PERSON!!! Same genes do not make the same person look at Walter and Walternate. Our Olivia had every right to be mad just as if a clone had been grown from nothing and sent on the same mission

  • I fucking love Pacey Bishop.

  • I love this scene. I was totally mesmerized by Olivia's heart-wrenching speech. You could really feel how much pain she was in and how disappointed Peter made her feel. The one thing I've got to say about this scene is that I was let down by Peter's whole demeanor while listening to her. Where was the pain in the eyes? the shame for what he did? He may have said 'sorry' at the end (AFTER she had left) but I didn't really get that he wholeheartedly meant it. Just MY opinion.

  • @Picasso23 of course, EVERYONE IS DISAPPOINTED IN PETER AND HATES HIM! WE FUCKING GET IT!

  • Brilliant, amazing, etc.. I don´t know how to explain with words this scene. This is by far one the best scene on fringe... What can you say to all that¿? NOTHING.... Olivia is totaly right... I love you girl.... You rock!!!!!!

  • This scene was LEGIT!!! 'nough said LOL. XD

  • Seriously, how do you top this? This scene is utterly brilliant.

  • Excellent scene! Olivia tore me to see so confused because Peter did not recognize. She really wants it but not if it will be able to endure all this and dealing with the shadow of the other Olivia. Peter That last scene left me sitting and thinking about doubting his feelings, he wants but I also feel something for the other Olivia. Poor Liv.

  • I'm sorry, but I'm on Olivia's side here because even though I know Peter couldn't possibly have known except for a few key facts it still felt like he should have TRIED to make sure when he first suspected Altivia, as a viewer. In Olivia's place, I can also understand it really wasn't his fault, but I would still be SO MAD that he just didn't, it happened and there's no going back from it, any possibility for a romance between them is dead now.....I'm gonna kill that bitch, Altivia!!!

  • @LovelyxMoments oh shut up PETER HATER!

  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • " She wasn't me. How could you not see that? Now, she's everywhere; she's in my house, my job, my bed, and I don't wanna wear my clothes anymore and I don't wanna live in my apartment, and I don't wanna be with you". JUST... HEARTBREAKING, it's not fair that she has to suffer this much, her entire life is falling apart and she fells so alone, i hope they can work this out, Olivia deserves to be happy, it's been a while...

  • @misch1008 OH SHUT UP!

  • @misch1008 Oh right and Peter doesn't deserve ANY happiness! I hope Anna Torv fucking dies in a car accident so this piece of shit gets cancelled and Josh is free from the shadow that is ANNA FUCKING TORV!

  • I love Olivia, I do, and I know he didn't mean for this to happen. So sad, and Anna was great... so was Josh. :) I think he knew she needed, no, deserved to talk, so Peter let Olivia dish it out at him, and I think he believes he deserves it, which he doesn't, because he made an honest mistake.

I think it's especially hard for Olivia after John's betrayal and death and I think that Peter, who has always been her constant, betraying her was too much.

    So sad... :(

  • @HarvestMoonWish Okay first of all, PETER DID NOT BETRAY OLIVIA! How the hell was he suppose to know that she was trapped in the alternate universe? How the hell was he supposed to know there was a switch? God, you Olivia fans piss me off with Peter is such a horrible person bullshit! SHUT UP! SHUT UP! SHUT UP!

  • @MayBrainLee1 I never said he did. I'm not great with words. But I'll reword what I said. I meant that to Olivia, he betrayed her. But in honesty, he didn't, really. She loves him, and she expected him to know better... she is dissapointed and in her mind it seems like he betrayed her a little.

He's not a horrible person. He just didn't know. :/

It's a tv show. Can we all just calm the hell down?

  • @HarvestMoonWish Oh shut up. Again PETER DID NOT BETRAY OLIVIA! stop saying he did! God, it was HER who told him "you belong with me" and Peter took that and went into a relationship with her. If olivia had not kissed him and blinded him with her "vagenda", Peter would not have changed into the stupid jerk that the audience makes him out to be.

  • @MayBrainLee1 I am just analyzing character, God, don't tell me to shut up. -.- Don't you have better things to do than to make fun of a fourteen year old on Youtube? It's an opinion. God. :/ I tried explaining myself here.

You need to chill. It's a TV show. Nothing more, okay?

  • @HarvestMoonWish i don't respect olivia fans, asshole.

  • @MayBrainLee1 Didn't ask you to. You need some Prozac or something. Just chill the fuck out. :/ I like both characters.

  • @HarvestMoonWish oh fuck you, you stupid Olivia fucker!

  • @MayBrainLee1 I generally don't like to judge people I don't know, but your comments make you come across as an angry, dim, closed-minded misogynistic idiot. If you don't want to hear people's opinions maybe you shouldn't challenge their intelligence so offensively you snide piece of shit.

  • Peter bashing, peter bashing, peter bashing!

  • At the beginning of the scene I thought Olivia was crying desperately. When she took her hands off her face I said "she's Olivia Dunham, she doesn't cry, she just can be touched, nothing more". Just kidding. This scene is heartbreaking, especially to who reflected a bit in Olivia's character. Great Anna and Joshua, even if I was expecting a different reaction from him. But this is Fringe, this show doesn't focus too much in sentimental stuff. Anyways I'm confident in this love story.

  • I think the reason Peter sat there and "took it" without saying anything, was because he knew she deserved to let all her feelings out. Plus, what could Peter possibly say to make Olivia feel better? The only words he knows how to say he does actually say, which is, "I'm sorry." I thought both their reactions were spot on and well done to both Anna and Josh on their acting.

  • Anna Torv is an amazing actor. I hope when this ends (and ends well, please god, not with a whimper but a bang) she has plenty of opportunities lined up - cool movies, cool shows, lots of money. I think it's an interesting perspective that maybe Peter liked the other Olivia better. I don't think it's true, but I think it makes sense that he might have liked her as that character too - she's more of an asshole, living more in the moment, more self-promoting, really more like Peter himself.

  • POOR BABY ! SHE DOESN'T EVEN WANT HIM TO TOUCH HER !

HE'S FEELING GUILTY, BUT I GUESS ONLY TIME CAN SOLVE THIS PROBLEM ! HE MADE A MISTAKE HE SHOULDN'T TELL HER THAT BOLIVIA SMILES MORE AND SHE'S LESS INTENSE, THAT MADE HER FEEL BAD ABOUT HERSELF! SHE'S A MESS NOW ! AND NOBODY IS THERE BY HER SIDE TO COMFORT HER! I WISH RACHEL AND ELLA ARE BACK SO SHE CAN BE WITH THEM INSTEAD OF CRYING ALONE IN THE DARK EVERYNIGHT !

PETER'S EYES OMG! HE'S CRYING INSIDE I REALLY DON'T BLAME HIM!HE WAS IN LOVE!

  • Don't worry Olivia you're not the only one thinking about why Peter didn't notice it wasn't you :P

  • it's because he loves her too much to see beyond everything, blind by love (not love to atlivia though)

  • i cried on this... i cried like a baby... it hurts

  • *SOB*

  • She's like "Don't touch me" It's just so sad. And we need to wait until Firefly in January 21. AEDFGHJK.-

  • @MrSmackism, I agree...It makes me sad, because I completely believe, and it's easy to see, he liked the other Olivia more. Yes, he thought it was Olivia, but when he found out, you could defiantly tell he liked her still..

  • Does anyone else think that Peter preferred Altivia? And that's why he didn't see through her because he was enjoying this new Olivia.

  • @MrSmackism Noooo, no way. He had feelings for Olivia BEFORE Altlivia even came into the picture. Like he explains to Olivia, he saw the changes and accepted them because he thought it was normal since their relationship WAS different. PLUS, I'm sure he felt quite proud to make Olivia happier. Poor Peter.

  • @Elialys yeah but i'm not sure, i think the victim here is OLIVIA not PETER.

  • @sophie22delco YES, Olivia is definitely the victime here, since Altlivia stole her life and 'lover' along with everything else. But I think Peter is a victime too. He was used and manipulated by Altlivia, she used his love for Olivia, and he thought she was her, and now he's going to have to deal with the pain he's inflicting her and the guilt. It's just...I wouldn't want to be any of them right now.

  • @Elialys

Agreed. Both are the victims now. Peter was Used and Olivia was also used by the other side. Peter took the change's because he loves her, while she can't see that right now, here is hopes that one EP in 2011 Olivia will make sense of it all.

    Fringe FTW.

  • @sophie22delco I agree with you. The victim is definitely Olivia.

  • @sophie22delco Then what is Peter then? he was not the one who initiated the switch, he wasn't the one who brainwashed her, he wasn't the one who almost killed her. Stop acting like peter is this horrible person who hurt Olivia on purpose. God, you olivia fans need to stop bashing Peter.

  • @sophie22delco they are BOTH victims

  • @MrSmackism Well, I certainly hope that Peter doesnt prefer Alt-livia, although someone like Astrid might say that Peter did seem pretty happy when he was seein' Alt-livia. If the writers somehow bring back Agent Scott from the first season through the same reanimation techniques done on the ballerina and have Scott and Liv reunite, that would upset a lot of viewers and me also.

  • @MrSmackism I also think he preferred Altlivia because in season two when he saw her for the first time he said that his Olivia had blond hair and he said that he liked the red hair better...

  • @nestorlein How can he prefer Altlivia if he only met her for 5 minutes?!!!! BTW, don't tell me that a friend of yours sometimes dye their hair a different color and sometimes you tell them, "I prefer the blonde look". Stop acting all holier than thou.

  • @MrSmackism I think he preferred Altivia, I mean when he was on the other side he even said he preferred the way she looked

  • @MrSmackism Yeah I think so too. He says so when he confesses they were a couple at the hospital -> "She was quick to smile, less intense" He's saying he liked those things about her, without saying "BUT she was also a lying, homicidal b*tch."

  • The writing on this show is so intelligent and well done. I loved the xfiles, but they could never really get the emotional thing right and it always came out rushed and contrived. But Fringe, its just exceptional. They never go down the well trodden path. They do things differently and for that, better. I only started watching at the end of season 2 and now Im hooked. The show is a credit to FOX. Hope they realise it!

  • sorry but ANA your are so brilliant , i love your acting...

Peter and Olivia.. i love them but i always thought that Peter he was more sensitive and observant, and he make me mad that you don't had empathy for Olivia when she is saying you that things..

  • @sophie22delco i have to said thattt when Ana/Olivia says :she's in my house, my job, my bed, and I don't wanna wear my clothes anymore and I don't wanna live in my apartment, and I don't wanna be with you. She's taken everything. OMG so good acting i felt so sorry about herr

  • i'm just going to go sit in a corner and...cry a little

  • Brillant acting by both of them OMG

  • this scene makes me so sad, but i think it was so well done because it was real-other shows might have put them right back together, but realistically this would be a painfully process for any couple. anna torv is also a rockstar in this scene (and i dont mean to incite the josh jackson fight going on, this just wasn't peter's moment to have a big speech)

  • I was a hardcore Polivia shipper. I loved them together. I was so excited every time they made progress in their relationship.

But after this episode, all of those feelings were gone. Now they're back in the same universe and I no longer see them as a good couple. I can't see it ever working out because of what they both did and are doing, and I honestly don't want it to. Not now anyway.

I think I've always known Peter and Olivia would never really be together and now I can finally accept it.

  • @AwesomeAuror I agree. I don't think for the character, and for the audience, that the relationship could be continued in that way without it being extremely awkward.

Hopefully, however, the 'family unit' that it was referred to in season 2 can be restored.

  • @Damon242

That would be nice. Going back to the family is probably the best path this show can take, and I really hope they don't force Peter and Olivia back together. It would look unnatural and contrived at this stage. And "Fringe Friday Family" just sounds really funny.

  • I think they both get plenty of opportunities. There are some scenes where I love Olivia - Anna and there are some scenes where I love Peter- Josh and even more where I can't decide who was the best. This scene falls into the last category because while this scene was about Olivia and she did an awesome job, Peter just sits there and takes it and I just have to wonder what is going through his head; does he finally understand what Walter did or is he just crushed by what he did?

  • @FawnCC Beautiful answer :)) That last scene is simply fantastic. The more I watch it, the more I'm in awe of all the little details in their faces and hand gestures. SIMPLY AWESOME.

  • @FawnCC I too am hoping that this experience will lead to him finally forgive Walter.

  • That's all Josnh jackson gets, "you're not bad yourself!" You people just love to undermine Josh and his acting on this show. I am DONE with this show!

  • @MayBrainLee1 You're done with this show because I said "You're not bad yourself"? O_o Okay. You know, when I say that, I mean that he was great too, right (there's a hint of humour here but I guess you missed it). If I didn't like his acting I would have said "Josh, you sucked dude, sorry." I thought he was great, but Anna Torv just had more opportunities to show it in this episode. Chill out.

  • @Elialys Yeah cause ANNA TORV ALWAYS GETS THE DAMN OPPORTUNITY WHILE THE WRITERS GIVE JOSH NOTHING TO DO!

  • @MayBrainLee1 You won't be done with anything that has Joshua Jackson in it. Admit it.

  • @MayBrainLee1 Lying sack of shit. You've said you're "done" with this show about 45 times in the past three years. You're not done with this show. Stop fooling yourself silly.

  • OMG ! HEARTBROKEN :'( POOR OLIVIA !

  • the most heartbreaking thing that has ever happened on Fringe is when Peter says "I'm sorry" after she has already gone, like he knows nothing he can say will ever make a difference :( :( :( :(

  • this was such a sad scene :( i think one of the most heartbreaking i have ever seen on fringe :(

  • Comment removed

  • OMG powerful scene!!! I would love for Peter and Olivia to be together and this scene makes me mad because I just want to be in a relationship and now this situation is a HUGE setback, but she is totally justified to feel the way she feels. It was huge violation of her life that Bolivia committed and there were a huge number of signs for Peter to pick up on but I guess he was just really excited and didn't think. which is just like a man. I really hope they find their way back.

  • Heartbreaking scene :'(

I'd love to know what that instrumental piece of music is. It also played during their kiss in the finale and it's beautiful.

  • I hate this!!!!
