I've been listening to Steve Green since 1986...thank God for such an anointing that ministers to me since then...God bless your ministry Brother Steve...
During the Great Depression many people would have starved if it wasnt for fruit trees, there is no reason why we cant all work together and plant fruit trees, EVERY single Church in the world should have fruit trees on its property to help feed the less fortunate. Genesis 1:29
This man's music inspired me and helped me through my son's successful battle with cancer as a child; my son is now a fantastic professional church singer. I don't plan to read anyone's comments on here, but I see where Sandy is trying to argue with someone. Steve Green has it all - the magnificent God-given talent - nailing a solid high Bb, he sings straight from heaven.
this is the best example of a truly living soul, quickened by God - the author of Life, then naturally in outburst of praise. Only people with quickened spirits can release the singing sound of their souls- marvelous and awesome voice of praise, awed by God's glory.
This wonderful hymn, was among the prayes of many , that helped me pull out of a tail spin of depression and such darkness.... Thank you for posting.. Thank you Steve! And may the Lord richly bless you ministry. And to God be all the glory!
Seen and heard him @ a big Baptist Church in Atlanta in 1985.Another bittersweet memories for me.God is faithful.Wondeful performance. Thanks for posting.
I don't know how he made it through that song without actually breaking down in tears because he was already fighting them back by the first line and it's over five minutes long. That must take a lot of self-control. I wish I had that much self control.
This song is so very true. God does hold the keys to our lives.. He holds our lives in His hands and if you're a Child of God the Bible says that nobody can pluck you our of our Father's Hands.. AMEN!!!!!! This song is such an encouragement
This is the very first song I ever heard by Steve, and it's a favorite of mine. I saw him about 3 Decembers ago, and I figured that he'd sing the really powerful songs at the beginning, but all the songs he sang were powerful. At midway through, he said "I wasn't going to tell you this, but I changed my mind. My Mother died today", and everyone's heart just sank, and we were stunned. I don't know how he could get up and minister to others, but God gave him the strength, ability and courage.
I sang this song, (with a choir), as part of the oratorio, "The Door" by Dennis and Nan Allen.............has been the most incredible piece of music, "The Door"..........singing about Jesus being the key that opens the door from fallen humanity into the presence of God the Father........
thanks to my God for this man, and brother forever,,,steve you are to big sigers and your voice the sky coming. Dios te bendice y alla en la eternidad no veremos NOS VEREMOS... RAUL SOLANO
Heard him perform this live at Brooklyn Tabernacle back in the day... they had to fix the roof after that performance.. and also mop the floor. Not a dry eye in the house. Amazing song, amazing delivery
I love STEVE..Everytime i see this that last note just gets me.. I find myself praying his head wont blow off....!!! HAHAH!! HE is fantastic singer LIVE even better.. His ministry has been such a encouragement to my life..
I saw him at the Anchorage Baptist Temple in 1986. He did a free concert for the teens. WOW! I didnt have the bread for a record. But it's a memory that I will have the rest of my life.
All you faceless people trying to critique his singing. PLEASE! He would never want anyone to say this, because he is not singing for his own glory, but I would put his voice up against ANYONE'S. I have heard him sing in numerous styles, and when he opens up his throat? Forget it, no contest. Did he hold the note out like he normally does at the end? No, but I can tell you that I have heard him do it on numerous occasions live. Perfect? No. Better than any of you shlubs? Without a doubt.
I was glad to see Steve Green sing at our church a couple years ago. His wife actually sang a song with him. I was surprised at how short he was. This was always one of my favorite songs by him.
Steve Green is really one of a kind. he does not totally sing this is hard core opera style where you cant even figure out90% of the words, but in a very balanced contemporary meets opera style. amazing singer.God bless You Steve green!!
suddenly I feel old lol, thinking back to being a kid in the 80s, grew up with Michael Card and Steve Green then eventually SCC, Newsboys and look at them all today be it klove or power88, hard to believe Christians bash or ban contemporary Christian music, avoid the evil place lurking off 250 brent lane in pensacola, florida
I sang this song for our Easter Cantata, and it just was so awesome. I was afraid to do it, to sing on stage, but God worked it out...and doing the song I felt like I was in God's presence. I could let myself go and sing to Him. On that last note, halfway through it I still had a good deal more to h old and the crowd started cheering. It was an interesting sensation.
Gosh, I wondered what ever happened to Steve Green. I actually have a letter that he wrote me about 20 years ago. haha! I was just a kid then, but I remember this song very well. Gosh, 22 years ago!
The amazing - almost non human - aspect of Steve Green is that this video was 22 years ago and he sounds just as amazing now. He has been able to recognize how his voice has changed over the years and adapted his music to fit that voice. I just saw him in concert a couple weeks ago, and with his persmission, i will be posting a couple vids. They had to bring in extra chairs and people where standing in the foyer to hear this amazing 'God Blessed' communicator.
STEVE GREEN Is AWESOME! I used to listen to his songs when I was a little and I still do! It's amazing that I still remember all his songs! God is Awesome~
I am going to be singing this song for an Easter Cantata . .doubt I will do as good as he does, but it is not a matter of how well I do, but a matter of if I do it for God or not. He is amazing - I have seen him twice in concert, and even though I can't remember if he sang these songs, what he did sing blew me away, and literally, once of his concerts, God used to turn my life around. This man is amazing, and continues to be.
To Ruggedboy1976: I am so sorry that is your story. I can understand how you may feel rejected. Maybe you could try approaching the Father again, without any religious restrictions, just asking Him to meet with you. I have felt let down by Him at times when I didn't understand what He was doing. I will be praying for a change for you. I appologize for comments from others who did not show compassion. None of us have "arrived".
dont mind the ruggedboy i think he has a hang up when he was a kid, Jesus is a sovereign and just God Alpha and Omega he made you, we are his creatures He is our creator.
Well, problem is you expected something, and God owes you and me absolutely nothing. We work with children in Arequipa, Peru, we have a home with 87 children, abused, abandoned, children that have lived for years on the streets, that have eaten out of dumpsters, filled with disease, scared from years of abuse... what possible problem could you have compared to them? Stop complaining and grow up!!
God loves you and would love to be your best friend. Forget everything that has gone on, and come to Him just as yourself. He will accept and love you. Read Psalm 91. Isaiah 43:1-2. God cares for you, and wants you right now. Come to Him, and He will accept you. Look up the song "To Bring You Back" by Paul Alan.

and you're right God chooses who he becomes close with, and that someone is "everyone" including you, thats why he hasnt come, cuz not everyone has gotten that opportunity and He does not want anyone to perish but to be saved and have a close relationship with Him
i remember this from when i was like 5 years old..it was a blue tape.. ahhhhh i went to bed to this everynight for like a year.. then we got to see him live in concert when i was like 9..it was a pretty big deal back in those days... awesome!!! jordan
hermoso, steve green hizo que dejara la musica profana, ahora para mi, la buena musica es la que alaba a Dios. y no me refiero a esos ritmos mundanos introducidos al cristianismo, al cesar lo que es del cesar.
It's funny that the way he shapes his mouth and tongue allows him to produce a Bb on an Eee vowel that sounds MORE like an actualy EE vowel (for americans) than any other recording I've ever heard. On the studio recording I'm talking.
hahaha brett manning im ashamed of you!....i have your vibrato and 12 cd packages...i randomly found this comment....these ppl arent studio perfect....but perfection isnt necessary in the eyes of the lord!
I'd just like to say I've heard him sing this song live twice and it was AWESOME!!! More importantly is the message of the song. JESUS CHRIST has set us FREE. All who turn to Him will be set FREE. HE holds the Keys to life and death for everyone. Steve Green has been a faithful man of God from all accounts and has been faithful in his ministry to bring more than just music and a good voice to a song, but a powerful message that reaches beyond most. Praise the Lord for Steve's ministry!
um, Steve Green has sold millions of recordings--someone must like what he is doing :).
i couldn't believe some of the comments i read on here about how 'flawed' his performance is. there are few people on the planet, if any, who could sing this song as well as Steve Green, or any song Steve does for that matter. check out his rendition of 'mighty fortress is our God," acapella no less. c'mon give the man his props.
if you can notice every person in the crowd is old. that's cuz you can't find very many young people that like this music... first of all Steve Green needs to growl more when he yells, and you need the distorted guitars! smoke, colored lights and firecrackers can also be used. some art, like pentagrams painted on the drum sets..this isn't entertaining. i'm sure Jesus agrees with me haha
Yeah, I guess you sort of have a point. People don't really care about good, positive, and edifying music anymore. They would rather listen to music that talks about partying, drugs/drinking, sex, and raising hell.
Well, I personally, would have to say that I like Steve Green's style very much. In fact, I sang a song once for a Christian singing contest(similar to American Idol), and one of the judges told me that I reminded him of Steve Green, and he meant it as a compliment.
well i don't pay attention to lyrics as much as the music but well written lyrics makes a song better. i don't care if it's positive or not. some of my lyrics are suicidal where you can really feel pain while listening to it, i just don't take it seriously(it's just a song lol)as a metalhead i look at music differently then most people do in a way that most people don't understand
Oh, okay, well I guess you metalheads don't realize how much greater your "little" influence has on such a large crowd, with a suicide rate at it's highest in history, not to mention the leading cause of today's deaths. Think about it.
Now when I write songs, I write about how people need to turn their hearts to Jesus Christ, because He is the Reason to live.
dude whomever kills themselves cuz of a song is STUPID! seriously anyone who does something that retarded deserves to die. if that even crosses your mind you are an EMO which you are disliked by ANY metalhead. u won't be able to get any true metalhead to listen to Jesus music guaranteed.. please take the time to see the first video(on the top)on my profile for some cool tunes...oh and the reason to live is to create great memories and to live life freely :)
I don't think Jesus would agree, I am pretty young, and I have been to two of his(Steve Green's)concerts. I loved them both. He doesn't yell, he sings. Pentagrams have a lot to do with witchcraft. I like his style, and a lot of people do.
To God be the glory!!!Amen........There is nothing wrong when we praise God and how we used our talents.........we will never loose any of a thing in life but we gain
The commotion here is a good example of how ridiculous human beings are. The is a video about glorifying God and spiritual nourishment, but people still fight about this. Bring your fight and bickering to videos like girls gone wild and Iraq. Leave us our peace here. And TheAleph74 may be entitled to his opinion but he should have kept that to himself because that can be misunderstood as arrogance. And people reacts to such, coz that is very irritating.
I don't care about the flaws and imperfections you are talking about his way of singing, but certainly he is singing it right from his heart. I am awed by the passion and intensity of his performance. I have collections of all his albums and of sandi patti too. I love both of them, and i regard them as the best gospel singers ever. I hope that they will be invited again to stage a concert in the philippines. God bless your ministry Mr. Steve Green. You are an inspiration.

technique is nothing if it can't get the desired effect. however, there's always the right way of doing things, including singing! i'd rather have 1 technique and be able to bless 100 souls, than have 100 ways of technical prowess and touch none! i'm not saying you can do away with correct tcnique, but what matters is the heart that pushed you to sing! to The Aleph74, you had a good point though! Just keep on with your singing. i pray you touch more lives and be better than steve! God bless!

Wow...I saw where his tongue was at the end of the song and I am amazed that he was still able to produce such great tone quality like that. Nevertheless this is one of the greatest Christian songs of all time sung by one of the most talented singers of the gospel...
how dare you comment on technique! let me hear you sing or better yet, post your own video with your singing! Ever heard of style? I would give up technique for feel or heart - that's the essence of singing, touch people's heart! Can you?
Yes I can and I do touch people's hearts wit my singing. I don't think that this (a song about Jesus) is the place to start a youtube fight. I just gave my opinion, am I not allowed?
Anyone I've ever heard that could sing good pretty much always makes funny faces and has those idiosyncracies!!! I love watching him sing and make those funny faces back in those days because if you know anything about him he still sings beautifully and totally for the Lord, but has relaxed somewhat in his style. I don't know about you but this song is a little nerve racking to sing.....I would terrible trying to sing it! God Bless SG...and hey cut him some slack he's a great guy!
I can sing just like that...but I don't want to! Cause he has bad technique!! lol!!! Great talent! He has used his amazing talent for great things instead of singing in smokey nightclubs!!
Geez, it's so difficult to please you, people. Let's say he was tense. Then you got to admire him more. For someone so tense he sings wonderfully. Remember that this is a live concert. Nobody probably gave him a glass of water, the poor man kept licking his lips.
this song is hard to sing, and besides, he's a good singer. It doesn't matter how bad it is, but that he's truly singing it from his heart, and truly for God.
cornellcrawford: Firstly, he did an awesome job. Sings accurately, yet with great passion. Has tremendous vocal quality and presence. There are many, many singers and entertainers I simply can't enjoy because of the lack of true quality. This guy can SING!
Yeah, I understand that he is singing for God and that he has a gift. God bless Steve! But cornellcrawford1 is right: Steve has a lot of flaws in his technique. He does crack at the end of the Bb and that tongue is full of tension. Regardless, he is a true servant of God and his talent has touched thousands.
my sister thinks Steve Green is soooo funny. (for some reason or another!:-D) how DOES he hit those notes? I can hit them(barely)but can't hold them! But he's awesome. He is God's
also I and my friend we learned of the God I use east art david and steve is Products of the work of God as well as I and my friend someday we will take its place blessings i am from peru
Many years ago...the only person that could even come remotely close to what Steve Green did to this song was a young man who came to my church who sang "He Holds the Keys" was David Phelps. You can see how he was influenced by Steve Green. What a God given voice Steve Green has...what a ministry.
the video was digitized from VHS - accordingly, I don't see a huge problem with the quality. As for the video stopping, that's simply a bandwith problem (either your ISP or your computer's incoming bandwith limit) - it doesn't stop for me... perhaps you'll recieve better quality if you try to view it during low peek periods in the day.
I've been listening to Steve Green since 1986...thank God for such an anointing that ministers to me since then...God bless your ministry Brother Steve...

Each verse is different. And if you are referring to the chorus, a chorus--by definition--is repeated after each verse.

"Well, problem is you expected something, and God owes you and me absolutely nothing. We work with children in Arequipa, Peru, we have a home with 87 children, abused, abandoned, children that have lived for years on the streets, that have eaten out of dumpsters, filled with disease, scared from years of abuse... what possible problem could you have compared to them?"
im afraid i have to agree with him/her.

and you're right God chooses who he becomes close with, and that someone is "everyone" including you, thats why he hasnt come, cuz not everyone has gotten that opportunity and He does not want anyone to perish but to be saved and have a close relationship with Him

Creo que Steve Green ha sido uno de los pocos cantantes cristianos en predicar a travez de himnos y cantos que tienen mucho contenido.
bitmaps22 3 years ago
hermoso, steve green hizo que dejara la musica profana, ahora para mi, la buena musica es la que alaba a Dios. y no me refiero a esos ritmos mundanos introducidos al cristianismo, al cesar lo que es del cesar.

truthisstillthetruth 3 years ago

Praise the Lord for Steve's ministry!
jasonworld2007 3 years ago 2
um, Steve Green has sold millions of recordings--someone must like what he is doing :).
i couldn't believe some of the comments i read on here about how 'flawed' his performance is. there are few people on the planet, if any, who could sing this song as well as Steve Green, or any song Steve does for that matter. check out his rendition of 'mighty fortress is our God," acapella no less. c'mon give the man his props.
Praise God!!

if you can notice every person in the crowd is old. that's cuz you can't find very many young people that like this music... first of all Steve Green needs to growl more when he yells, and you need the distorted guitars! smoke, colored lights and firecrackers can also be used. some art, like pentagrams painted on the drum sets..this isn't entertaining. i'm sure Jesus agrees with me haha
iceddust69 3 years ago
Yeah, I guess you sort of have a point. People don't really care about good, positive, and edifying music anymore. They would rather listen to music that talks about partying, drugs/drinking, sex, and raising hell.
Well, I personally, would have to say that I like Steve Green's style very much. In fact, I sang a song once for a Christian singing contest(similar to American Idol), and one of the judges told me that I reminded him of Steve Green, and he meant it as a compliment.
PSkitt82 3 years ago 2
well i don't pay attention to lyrics as much as the music but well written lyrics makes a song better. i don't care if it's positive or not. some of my lyrics are suicidal where you can really feel pain while listening to it, i just don't take it seriously(it's just a song lol)as a metalhead i look at music differently then most people do in a way that most people don't understand
iceddust69 3 years ago
Oh, okay, well I guess you metalheads don't realize how much greater your "little" influence has on such a large crowd, with a suicide rate at it's highest in history, not to mention the leading cause of today's deaths. Think about it.
Now when I write songs, I write about how people need to turn their hearts to Jesus Christ, because He is the Reason to live.
PSkitt82 3 years ago
dude whomever kills themselves cuz of a song is STUPID! seriously anyone who does something that retarded deserves to die. if that even crosses your mind you are an EMO which you are disliked by ANY metalhead. u won't be able to get any true metalhead to listen to Jesus music guaranteed.. please take the time to see the first video(on the top)on my profile for some cool tunes...oh and the reason to live is to create great memories and to live life freely :)

I don't think Jesus would agree, I am pretty young, and I have been to two of his(Steve Green's)concerts. I loved them both. He doesn't yell, he sings. Pentagrams have a lot to do with witchcraft. I like his style, and a lot of people do.

To TheAleph74,
how dare you comment on technique! let me hear you sing or better yet, post your own video with your singing! Ever heard of style? I would give up technique for feel or heart - that's the essence of singing, touch people's heart! Can you?
ariel2361 3 years ago
Yes I can and I do touch people's hearts wit my singing. I don't think that this (a song about Jesus) is the place to start a youtube fight. I just gave my opinion, am I not allowed?
TheAleph74 3 years ago
Anyone I've ever heard that could sing good pretty much always makes funny faces and has those idiosyncracies!!! I love watching him sing and make those funny faces back in those days because if you know anything about him he still sings beautifully and totally for the Lord, but has relaxed somewhat in his style. I don't know about you but this song is a little nerve racking to sing.....I would terrible trying to sing it! God Bless SG...and hey cut him some slack he's a great guy!
organizer5 4 years ago 2
I can sing just like that...but I don't want to! Cause he has bad technique!! lol!!! Great talent! He has used his amazing talent for great things instead of singing in smokey nightclubs!!
gsman5828 4 years ago
Geez, it's so difficult to please you, people. Let's say he was tense. Then you got to admire him more. For someone so tense he sings wonderfully. Remember that this is a live concert. Nobody probably gave him a glass of water, the poor man kept licking his lips.

He sings with a lot of tension, look at his tongue. He cracks on the very end.
cornellcrawford 4 years ago
this song is hard to sing, and besides, he's a good singer. It doesn't matter how bad it is, but that he's truly singing it from his heart, and truly for God.
uogb 4 years ago
cornellcrawford: Firstly, he did an awesome job. Sings accurately, yet with great passion. Has tremendous vocal quality and presence. There are many, many singers and entertainers I simply can't enjoy because of the lack of true quality. This guy can SING!
sqqqsme 4 years ago 2
Yeah, I understand that he is singing for God and that he has a gift. God bless Steve! But cornellcrawford1 is right: Steve has a lot of flaws in his technique. He does crack at the end of the Bb and that tongue is full of tension. Regardless, he is a true servant of God and his talent has touched thousands.
TheAleph74 4 years ago
There are some technical flaws...but I'm sure God will forgive him...ya think?
I'd rather have some vocal flaws but have the gift of ministry in song that Steve Green has...
Glory be to God!
