actually when this song was first recorded the lyrics were as they are above. they're meant in the sense that you can't hold onto something that isn't yours, hence 'it was never mine to hold'

she changed them eventually because I think it was confusing for some and wasn't as radio friendly because of that.. not really sure

A little note @faithmassive ... In the lyrics, the chorus says "If everything is yours, i CAN let it go" instead of "I can't"... I'm just saying so the correction can be done. Thanks for posting, Love the song...

I went to a concert a few months ago (the Shelter tour) with Jars of Clay and Matt Maher. I had never even heard of Audrey Assad but she opened the show, and it was just her and a keyboard. No band, nothing at all but that voice as she played along on the keys. She wore a t-shirt and jeans! It was phenomenal and I became an instant fan. I had never really seen anything quite like it. Just beautiful.

to kkdkoolkat2 - perhaps you don't already know this but Audrey Assad sings christian music... meaning this exact song and most of her other songs have to do with God and her faith. So if Audrey is so strong in her faith and God, she already knows that God doesn't care whether she wears glasses or not, she is just as beautiful. Shame on you for not having the same wisdom. Audrey is a very talented, beautiful young woman. I saw her at a youth fest once, and I was blown away with her knowledge.
