This happened to my city of Rochester, NY. Businesses moved out, the economy became depressed, corrupted politicians, gangs etc. Most of these folks don't want to live here and want to get out. I hope our cities come back some day.. No one deserves this.

@haduuken19 I'm from Dallas, we still have a high amount (as far as national average) of violent crimes and such, but we have the stand-your-ground law. its a beautiful thing. basically says that anywhere you have a right to be, you have the right to defend yourself.... to the death. same goes for home invasions and a side bonus of that is your vehicle is an extension of your property. It doesn't fix crime problems, but it DOES level the playing field. Pennsylvania just adopted this law. =)

i'm sure if you taped around an area the size of camden in the worst part of north brooklyn you'll find it's as bad.
another example - look at st louis metro region pop (a fairer comparison to nyc than it's city limits pop)- it's murder rate shrinks down to around 4 per 100,000, but sloppy media reporting has people believe it's far worse than nyc.

I have fond memories of Camden. Attending Lanning Square and Pyne Poynt middle school and the summers were the best! Unfortunately it all came to an end when my mother was murdered in 83'. It saddens me that Camden has come to such ruins. The crime has really gotten out of control.

@haduuken19 I'm from Dallas, we still have a high amount (as far as national average) of violent crimes and such, but we have the stand-your-ground law. its a beautiful thing. basically says that anywhere you have a right to be, you have the right to defend yourself.... to the death. same goes for home invasions and a side bonus of that is your vehicle is an extension of your property. It doesn't fix crime problems, but it DOES level the playing field. Pennsylvania just adopted this law. =)

And with no internal revenue, Camden's business area collapsed having to compete against Philadelphia & townships like Cherry Hill. So, what you see in Camden now is a city that has been financially abandoned and the only people left are the one's too poor to leave.
